- The Opener of the Way" is a work of horror fiction by American writer, Robert Bloch. Originally published in the October 1936 edition of Weird Tales, the magazine described the story as, "A tremendous tale about the dread doom that overtook an archaeologist in that forgotten tomb beneath the desert sands of Egypt…"

I believe he still did. I have listened to the ending several times and I believe his father still planned this.
This was good, I love the dark Egyptian stories.

Something in the boyish slang of my evidently stricken companion unleashed my faculties. I formed and shouted a resolution, “Warren, brace up! I’m coming down!” But at this offer the tone of my auditor changed to a scream of utter despair:
“Keep up the good work fella and stay safe!”

Dude... This is another story my grandfather read to me as a child. Maybe that's why I've always liked the darker side of life. Lol. Always have been a horror fan, my older siblings too. They snuck me into see Jason, Freddie, and Michel Myers movies back in the late 70's and early 80's. Anyways, thanks for another great reading and good memories.

I would like to ask though, I remember listening to a story that was set in what I believe was an Egyptian tomb as well, with an archaeologist following a priest down a long set of corridors that had different tapestries/paintings on one wall that showed scenes through time, that the priest revealed one by one to the archaeologist, and the final one showed the priest killing the archaeologist...which he then did. I'd like to listen to it again, do you, or anyone else know what I'm talking about? I hope my description was good enough! Thank you to anyone who can help!

This was a great story, very spooky! Does anyone know of any other Egyptian-themed weird tales? I've also read "Imprisoned with the Pharaohs," but that's all thus far.

And neither are any of the builders. Plumbers (they deserved it! Late as usual!) Date suppliers. In fact! …Eek!….they’re all dead! Although the plumbers might still be inactive yet restless. Eek! Upstairs….

written by religious western man. the tombs of Egypt are not “unhallowed”. they’ve been blessed by Egyptian priests of the time. they are “hallowed”!
These authors were definitely of their time. Lovecraft also, always comparing non-whites to ‘savages’ etc. Even Italian immigrants sometimes get this treatment. It’s a shame they were using the fear of other cultures as a way of getting audiences to feel uneasy. The other more horrific elements of their stories are enough!
