- Plot: Sharda (Sharmila Tagore) is in love and wants to marry her boyfriend. But things take a twist, when before marriage, some of the grooms friends sexually assault Sharda. This results in Sharda getting pregnant. When the groom does not turn up, Sharda decides to keep the child and also shifts to a small town in the southern part of India. She names the child, Swati and in order to earn a living is a nurse under Dr. Rajendra (Shashi Kapoor). Years pass by, and Swati (Meenakshi Sheshadri), is an adult. She is an independent young woman, outspoken and also very good at physical defence. The only thing that troubles her the most is that who will look after Sharda, once she gets married. Hence, she decides to unite Dr. Rajendra, who is a widower and has a daughter, Anandi (Madhuri Dixit) and Sharda. Dr. Rajendra agrees for the wedding. It is time for Anandi to get married and hence, Sharda and Rajendra are in search for a suitable groom. Things go well until, Anandi and Swati have a fight. Sharda takes a harsh decision of disowning Swati and tells her to leave the house. Will Swati seek revenge for her removal due to Anandi? Will she come back in the future and create issues in Sharda's life? Watch the movie to know more.

Acting by Meenakshi and Madhuri was good in Swati. Awara baap Meenakshi is the main lead there too. I wonder why Meenakshi is not praised enough for her acting skills as she is for her dancing.

This is Meenakshi's one of her best performances. She is the main lead and shines like how! Madhuri Dixit acting is also good from her initial days. Even in a supporting role she is impressive.

Meenakshi was 23 when this film was made and Madhuri was just 18. Both have acted very well in this film. They used to be my favorite actresses in the 80's and 90's. I remember all their films fondly. Meenakshi has especially done a fine job in this film, it's one of her best performances along with Damini and Awargi.
