I am new to beading but have been doing professional quilting for many years. I know this is an old video, but I needed it TODAY. My dad and husband have been telling me the same thing for YEARS, but somehow you said it in a way that got through to me. I have seen previous videos where grumpy people do not approve of the chit chat, but I have found something valuable in every conversation. Usually, more about beading, but today about worth. Thank you.

Sara is completely correct, I am a retired fashion designer, custom work especially bridal is horrible. Once I had a bride that would have me take up a gown 1/8 of an inch and then let it back out the same amount. I did that up until the wedding about a month of work. After that, I never did any more custom work.
As a designer, your work goes before a group of people, that can make changes all the time. (Think project runway.) In addition to all that work, I had one of the owners who asked one of the cleaner/maid, her opinion. I would have whole collections I would have reworked, because of him asking everyone's opinion.
As far as jewelry, I once had a lady who wanted a navy pearl and crystal necklace. I quoted a price and she said to me she could get one from the mall cheaper. The quote was for fine crystals and pearls., you can't buy them for what she wanted to pay.
I worked in the industry 34 years, I have loved fashion all my life. Still love it but got very tired of all of that. The biggest piece of advice Sara gave is 100 percent true, value your own time, creativity, and skill. My grandchildren have asked me about going into fashion. I was very candid with her about what it takes to do it.
I have to think P shape and a 9 shape so I don't mix things up in my mind. Love your designs!!!
