The rest of my tool box is gear wrench and a mix of USA and Taiwan sockets, pliers and ext..I’ve broken too many Chinese tools in the past and I don’t have confidence in them.

    I gotta say since I only work on Japanese cars I can appreciate a set that skips the less common sizes if it saves me money or toolbox space. I bought the stripped down Gearwrench 9900 7-piece set of ratcheting wrenches because it perfectly skips the sizes I don't use. If I ever find an 11mm bolt I've still got old stuff from the multi-piece sets I bought as a teenager that have never been used!

      Oh but you need them so badly if you deal with US make cars. They mix and match US/Meteric so much that with some added rust you never know what you have in front of you. Total mess of poor design.

    @michaelherbert8213 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    I've been using thier impact sockets professionally for over a year and the markings are still very visible. I wish all manufacturers wouldn't skip sizes like tekton. I'm not so sure about putting a lot of torque on the ratcheting wrenches without damaging the ratchet mechanism.

    Well I just order the 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 (58 piece) sets. I have been hurting for years on tools. I let someone borrow tools and half never made it back. They were the USA made huskies from the late 90's. They were actually really well made tools. Oh well, he did a lot for me so its not a big deal. Anyway, I had to borrow two different tools from two different neighbors the other day to get my job done and I am done with that. I couldnt bring myself to take a chance on the shallow broach deepwell in the gearwrench set. If it wasnt for that I would have bought the gearwrench set instead.

  • @jonnda
    @jonnda 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Their 3/8" extra long ratchet kept breaking right at the square drive portion. I was using it to remove honda transmission and differential drain bolts, and after a month or two it broke. I contacted them, and they send out a repair kit, which was easy enough to install. However, soon enough the repaired part failed in the exact same way. Instead of contacting them for another repair kit, I bit the bullet and bought the Snap-On equivalent FLL80. It hasn't failed on me once with the same torture use.

    • @RealToolReviews
      @RealToolReviews  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think that the 3/8" version is good for up to 180 ft-lbs of torque max.....the 1/2" version is good to almost 500 ft-lbs. Sorry to hear you had a problem!

    • @jonnda
      @jonnda 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It might do 180 ft-lbs a couple times... but it seemed to fail from fatigue. I also have a long SK 1/2 drive ratchet, but it's large head with a 3/8" drive adapter (to fit the odd 3/8 square drive bolt heads) does not fit between the frame and the differential on Honda Pilots. These drain bolts get rusted on there really well, and normal breaker bars are not a convenient solution. I do plan on giving the Tekton impact socket sets a try. And while I have your attention, do you have a review of that Ingersoll Rand W5132?

    • @RealToolReviews
      @RealToolReviews  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tekton impact sockets (complete sets) = EXTREMELY GOOD VALUE!!! I don't have a review of the W5132....but I have both it & the 1/2" version W5152......they are probably the best cordless impacts (use-wise --- not most power) on the market today. Absolutely a cut above ALL other cordless impacts. Personally I would go with the 1/2" version since the 3/8" is exactly the same size tool....but if you can afford one, they are great.

    • @jonnda
      @jonnda 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was considering the 3/8 w5132, and then later on I was thinking of adding the w7150 for tougher lug nuts. How often do you have trouble removing lug nuts with the w5152? I normally use pnumatic aircat/nitrocat tools, but occasionally a salesman will have me come to the show room to install wheel locks. I think a comparison video of the W7150 and the W5152 would be a fun video.

    • @RealToolReviews
      @RealToolReviews  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I heard in July 2016 from people @ IR that a brushless replacement for the W7150 was coming.....that has been a year & a half.....not sure what the holdup is. I think that the W5152 would do pretty much everything except crank bolts on Hondas -- but there would be the occasionally nut/bolt that it wouldn't remove. The best part of it is the LED work light built in, and the 4 unique forward modes --- hand tight, wrench tight, mid-torque, and max-torque. Also, every mode switches to max power in reverse. The W7150 is more powerful, but it is also a LOT bigger.

      Not a fan of long wrenches myself. Things are just too tightly packed in there these days. I'm not much on muscling ratchets either. That's a job for breaker bars then attack it with the ratchet stuff. In the rust belt you quickly ruin any ratchet trying to bust stuff free under a car with them. I do like that six point setup on those wrenches . 6 points are what you want for the rusty stuff unless you have a torch handy.

      I want to thank you for all your hard work. Your reviews are excellent. I learn something new every time time I watch your videos.
      You have definitely influenced my recent purchases since I found your channel a few months ago and my only wish is that you could do more videos. This is because while I understand that you have your reasons for not doing a ton of reviews on "cheaper" tools and reasons for focusing on Top Quality items, it can be hard to get much information on many items (just because something has no reviews doesn't necessarily mean it's bad and positive reviews on a web store doesn't necessarily mean it compares well vs a "quality tool").
      Either way, thank you and keep up the good work.

    Tekton used to skip sizes but they have grabbed onto this frustration and they are very good about not skipping sizes. According to the standards of tool makers, certain sizes are actually not supposed to be used, e.g., 20mm, 16mm, and 9mm-- HOWEVER, manufacturers make products with these "impermissible" sizes... and thus the problems that now Tekton has solved.

    Do you think there is anything to Tekton claim of grabbing fastener from sides not just corners to prevent rounding? This would be a great review against Craftsman for example who don't make this claim.

    This may be a silly question, but is Tekton the same as/similar to harbor freight? I just bought some harbor freight composite ratchets and they look extremely similar.

    My problem. I have a 3/8 and a 1/2 inch impact. Can't decide buy both socket sets or just get impact sockets in 1/2 inch and just regular thinwalls for the 3/8. I've thought about using adapters to us 1/2 sockets on my 3/8 impact but worry about losing torque when using adapters. hmmmmm

    Who sells Tekton tool's and about was the cost of the long handled wrench sets... I'd sure love a set of them. Of course depending on the price... I'd have to justify the need for against cost to the boss lady... Due to the very fact that I already own a few sets of those type of wrenches but in the short handle size

    Where I work we've been using Tekton tools to assemble multi-million dollar Antennas (we've been cheaping out on tools after Proto/SnapOn/Cornwells go missing). After years of being around the top grade tools these tools are so close in quality it's not really worth shelling out the $$$ for the highend stuff unless you're using them daily like in a factory or service bay. We spend months/years on Engineering and only weeks installing our equipment so it's not the same day in day out abuse that might necessitate the highend tools.

      Woah. That thing is expensive. I already have the 2754 3/8 Milwaukee impact and it's bigger brother, the 2763. I do find that it is hard to get light where I need it when using them in tight spaces. The one little LED helps, but I always find myself reaching for a light. I'd like to see Milwaukee do something similar in the future.

  • @danoh5677

    Are Tekton tools “made” in the USA? I know the company is here but I haven’t been able to find out where they are made.
    I’m also curious why they call it an “Always” guarantee and not a lifetime? What is the specific difference?
    I ask these questions for several reasons, I’ve purchased lower end tools only to have them brake in the middle of a project. The only thing worse than have to stop in the middle of an engine build yo go buy/replace a tool is having to wait after sending it in, getting fixed and returned. I’ve always been a craftsman guy until the last few years, when they were sold. I’m looking for a comparable tool made in the USA, it’s a preference.

    • @johnterpack3940
      @johnterpack3940 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Probably because "lifetime" is kind of a vague term. Your lifetime or the tool's lifetime? If the tool fails they could always say that was just the expected end of its lifetime and refuse to warranty it. "Always" doesn't have those problems.

    I think you make great videos. I really like the production quality and I think you're informative and knowledgeable. I am a little curious what your arrangement with these tool manufacturers is, though. Do you receive these tools for free to review them? I see you're using affiliate links in the description, so if you're getting the tools for free and then getting a small kickback if your viewers buy through that link the videos are at risk of becoming more of an advertisement than an objective review. Again, I think you're doing a great job, but I am just curious about the nature of your relationship with the manufacturers.

    I have the a bigger tekton impact set that run about $60 bucks and from my personal experience I wouldn't recommend them to work professionally. My sockets get stuck on lug nuts and it's very frustrating having to pop them out all the time. I have to ask one of the techs at the shop for some sockets all the time. Sure they are Matco and you can't compare quality, but I'm talking about reliability and the tekton are not on a professional level.
