What It's Like To Fly An EMPTY Jet | Airline Pilot Life

  • Filmed in partnership with Coradine Aviation - LogTen Pro, who made this production possible. As an airline pilot, I occasionally get the chance to fly empty repositioning flights. There are big operational differences and special flying techniques used when the jet is empty. I love a plane full of passengers, but it's pretty cool to see how this jet takes off like a rocket when it's light and empty. If you've ever wanted to become an airline pilot, flying empty legs is something you should look forward to!
    When I was building flight time towards my ATP certificate, I used an electronic logbook called LogTen Pro. Tracking my progress towards meeting the numerous ATP requirements was incredibly easy with the software, and it synced to my iPhone, iPad, and Mac. I'm still using it today to log all of my flights as an airline pilot. I partnered with Coradine Aviation so that you can try it out yourself.
    Free 3-Month LogTen Pro Trial (New Subscribers) : coradine.com/swayne/
    This is an electronic logbook I've used since I was a brand new student pilot. I love the product and have always recommended it to pilots I work with. Just so you know, if you sign up and purchase a subscription through Coradine Aviation, I'll get a small commission. That helps me make more videos and I'm grateful for your support! Plus, you can get a discount of 12% for iOS or 23% for the iOS/Mac bundle. If you're already an existing subscriber, contact the Coradine Aviation support team who will check and make sure that you're getting the best rate possible.

      Swayne Martin Quick question. I am aspiring to become an airline pilot, and i was wondering if atp flight school or a local flight school would be better. Also, a video idea could be going in depth on checklists and procedures. Thank You!

    Since this industry is far from all roses, maybe an episode about how furloughs work would be appropriate. About 10,000 of us airline pilots will be out of work come 10/1/20. This will be my 3rd furlough in my 25 years of professional flying.

    • @SwayneMartinPilot
      @SwayneMartinPilot  3 ปีที่แล้ว +35

      Planning to have something out soon for people to understand the basics of furloughs. While it probably won’t do much to help someone knowledgeable, or going through it themselves, I want it to provide insight to aspiring pilots.

      As a heavy jet mechanic, I learned long time ago to have a second part time job. If one fails, you are not dead in the water. I even had to go overseas for awhile. But this pandemic may be the death blow to a lot of pilots and mechanics. It could take 5 to 10 years to fully recover and maybe get your job back. I am retired. ;-)

    As a mechanic, I got to do a lot of training, ferry flights, maintenance test flights, recovery, demo, etc. it is real neat. One time, I was downstairs cooking dinner when we landed. Oops You make your own coffee. One time on a L1011, I had to go down into the forward electronics bay to check the nose gear was down and locked. Almost like EA401 Dec 1972
