  • Part 3 in the P-51 Mustang Series is a walkthrough of the P-51 cockpit.
    Sweeping left to right through the cockpit, this walkthrough will give you an idea of what the P-51cockpit is like, and maybe just how little room there really is in a WW2 Warbird! Some of the controls have been altered to comply with modern aviation laws but its still very much an orgianl 1944 P-51 Mustang Cockpit!

    Another well done and educational video! I love all of the manual controls that the PILOT had to manage at the same time. No auto pilot or computer-aided assistance. It makes me think of today's young automobile drivers who can't operate a manual transmission. No self-parking here! The Louisiana Kid, once again, shows us how talented those P-51 pilots were. Looking forward to the in-flight video! I'm so happy for you that you get to have that experience. Once again, great work!

      Thanks Charles. It really makes you think how much workload those pilots had to cope with, as well as flying escort, on their leaders wing, and having to constantly search for the enemy! All of that with the minimal amount of training wartime conditions would allow for, it’s quite incredible what they achieved!

    Very informative and more complex than I would want to deal with. Thanks for the tour. Can't wait for you to get airborne.!!

      Thanks Jack, it was a real privilege to have the time with the aircraft and really go through the controls. It really gave me an idea of just how hard the pilots are working throughout every phase of the flight!

    0:54 Small correction. The bag on the left all the way back is not for a first aid kit. It was used to keep the flare gun cartridges, just like it says above the bag.

      Not the biggest office but for the 1940’s the thought into the ergonomics of the layout was very good!
      Now the P-47 has a cockpit you can run around in it’s that big!

    Did spot one error if I'm not mistake, regarding the elevator trim position. Usually a little nose down for take-off, not up.

    • @WW2Wayfinder
      @WW2Wayfinder  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We’re both right - and both wrong! It was dependant upon if the aircraft had metal or fabric elevators. Nose Heavy for metal elevators and Tail Heavy for fabric ones!
      Thanks for watching!

    Where is the heater for the cockpit? You would freeze to death wearing those clothes alone.
