Currently SFFD uses wooden ladders due to the amount of overhead electrical lines in the city, due to that they use exclusively wooden ladders to prevent their guys from getting electrocuted. This is a demonstration team, they use modern turnouts on actual calls. Yes it is great memories, and yes today these very same men and women are rescuing people on wooden ladders.
Wooden ladders are poor conductors of electricity. In a sense they are safer than aluminum ladders when being thrown in cities with many overhead electrical lines. Such as San Francisco.

yes they still do and have special ladder shop that still makes them. Wood is far better than alluminum
