    Nice review. Now I eagerly await your review of Hall of the Fire Giant King to round out three of the all time great modules. Keep up the good work.

      Thanks, hope it is an improvement vs my earlier work. Tomorrow (9-Apr), I will be releasing my G3 Mod review. :-)

    Great review of a classic module series.

      Thanks. Glad you liked the reviews of the G-Series. :-)

    This was my favourite of the Three Giant Modules. It is an Oger not ogra.
    Not sure why I liked this one so much.

      Of the G Series, it is my favorite too. At the time, it was the only frozen environment/terrain based module, which is what I was looking for. As far as my mispronouciation of Ogre? Oh well...

      @@RPGmodsFan I did enjoy the winter overland which posed a new threat to the party. The first time a frost giant picked up a member of the roped together party and threw them into the crevasse I almost laughed out loud. I watched the next in line whip out his dagger and then brace himself as he decided not to cut that party member loose. I think this module hit the sweet spot for the group. The Hill Giant Steadding was too easy. The Great Hall of Snurre turned out to be too tough. The Frost Giant lair was just right and the party scoured this module beating it from end to end. All these modules were drowning in treasure but the treasure of the Frost Giants was more interesting than what they found previously. They never got to loot the Fire Giant hall.

      @@biffstrong1079 Being thrown into a crevasse? Yeah, that is funny. :-P
      Uh? What happened? Did the Party have TPK in the Fire Giant Hall? Or was it "scheduling conflicts"?

    • @biffstrong1079

      @@RPGmodsFan TPK I think they came upon the Trolls and then were hit from the back by a group of Fire Giants organized by the Second in Command. Already had lost a character versus the Red Dragon.
      They were full on kick open the door kill the Monster mode and that simply didn't work here. It barely worked vs the Frost Giants.

    This is a helpful review. I was a little confused if the animal creatures would know if the tokens of free passage would let the small folk pass.

    • @RPGmodsFan
      @RPGmodsFan  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is up to the DM. As a DM, I would have the Tokens scented, so that, by smell, the animal creatures would know and allow for free passage.

    The 2 maps are VERY different ; the first is 10 feet per square, the second is 5 feet per square. you should subdivide the squares, providing larger rooms. Giants live there.

      Very true. I think Gary Gygax rushed his G and D series, and TSR did not have much quality control (if any).

  • @davidleonard8547
    @davidleonard8547 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Classic Gygax module. Deceptively simple, it's a mistake to treat this as a hack-and slash adventure. It's a skeleton to build on. Why else would the giants be named? If the party was just meant to kill everything in sight, there would be no need to have any speaking monsters at all. It ought to be run as a mini bottle adventure.

    • @RPGmodsFan

      Totally agree. I guess I should put more emphasis when describing the Villains of a module?

  • @Snoil

    These Giant series scenarios are total classics. I always added a bit of parchment regarding the next raid and co-operation with the Fire Giants with both the Storm Giant (she had it hidden) and in Grugnur's quarters. Similar to what they could find in Nosnra's Steading

      Funny thing is, I bought the G2 Mod before buying the G1 and G3 Mods. Mainly because I needed an adventure that takes place in the frozen regions of my homebrewed world.

      @@RPGmodsFan I only got em in order by accident, none of us on those early crews had any clue about Drow. Including me, so I got to be the DM that dropped the bomb so to speak 8>D Keeping my mouth shut about the big reveal was tough but I managed!

    • @RPGmodsFan
      @RPGmodsFan  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah. I guess I am a misfit. I bought the Mods out of order. As another example, I bought the D3 mod, before the G1, G3, D1 and D2 mods.

    Hard to follow this video, the narrator sounds like he’s reading and it’s really distracting.
