You have given me so much more confidence in my gameplay. These tips on solo queueing are so helpful, mainly from a mental standpoint. I used to have crippling fear of playing ranked once I got to a certain point. People say “the best way to get better is to play”. I feel the flip side of that is “the best way to get worse is not play”. You’re not doing yourself any favors by playing Quick Play or against bots. Don’t worry about your rank and your rank will come.
For sure. Also the most toxic people are usually hard stuck so don’t listen to them. Its almost never one persons fault in this game, there are too many variables
I just started playing with this mindset and I got out of bronze in 9 games and when I was in a losing game I don't blame anyone just did what I could and moved on to the next game and win the next 3 lol
Rank really doesn’t matter in any game, you can practice in rank the goal is always to just get better, the wins and knowledge will come. I play fighting games with this same logic and it works, people get too caught up in the ranking system, there’s no money on the line just get better and learn from mistakes.
I really like how relatable your yapping can be, you're approaching this as more of a conversation that you're having with your audience and it feels refreshing in comparison to the videos from most top players, which are structured like lectures.
The last part is super true and people don't realise it enough. Sometimes the other team is just better. Sometimes that other player carrying their team is just THAT GOOD. Doesn't mean they're cheating, they may not even be smurfing. Sometimes accepting that you are probably going to lose and it's not anyone's fault, is the best way forward and you can just move on to the next game. Also if you have a toxic teammate, avoid them as teammate and maybe the next game they'll be on the other team and you'll get a free win.
OOOOOR you are in loser's queue currently and the enemy has 5 former Overwatch Pro Players while you have little Timmy, trying out his XBOX Controller for the first time, Muhamad, playing from an Internet Café in Afghanistan, connecting on the wrong Server with 12 FPS and 300 Ping while shouting Insults over the Mic that you couldn't even understand if the Connection allowed it, Ivan, who also throws insult over the mic with better ping but he first times Spiderman in Ranked and his connection goes out mid Match and the other 2 People are forced to fill in Roles that they don't really can but they are trying their best to keep a usable teamcomp.
Hah this happened to me yesterday, had a super toxic Hawkeye in solo queue who was playin frontline and out of support line of sight, exposing himself to enemy fire and getting no kills. Complained about healers being trash. Next game he was on the enemy team and I made it a point to focus him as much as possible. Felt good.
Love the vid and the series. Lots of good points that I totally agree with. I think there is a silver lining to the “just mass queue and you’ll climb” point. In every comp oriented game, you have to get in good play time or you won’t get better. However, there is something to be said about taking a break from queuing to refocus on your weak points during a loss streak. In both S0 and S1, I’ve hit diamond in under 100 games w a +60% win rate, while my friends are hardstuck gold/plat with 400 games and a 40% win rate. When I hit loss streaks, I’ll take a step back and check my gameplay and think of all the ways I could’ve played better or carried harder. For example, this week I was having issues with some unlucky loss streaks in plat and decided to take a break. I was playing mostly mag, and noticed I was doing a great job of taking space and generating pressure. But my teams had NO CLUE on how to handle anything dive related. I realized that no one knows how to handle dive and took advantage of it. I started queuing hulk to disrupt back lines, contest flanks, peel, etc., and didn’t drop a game through diamond. I wouldn’t have made that adjustment if I had kept queuing through the loss streaks. There’s silver lining to everything in this game man, I love how complex and deep this game is
The 1200 subs in a day part made me really happy. Im very glad you are getting exposure more and more by the day as the series goes on, im not the guy to type much or even subscribe i just rely on my main home page and the algorithm to do its thing, but u got a sub, like and a comment from me as a small token of appreciation. Started playing this game 2 weeks ago and these videos single handedly took me from bronze to diamond as ive played many shooters over the years but this Overwatch type shooter so your content helped a lot and will keep helping in the future. Thanks Shotty!
Hey, Shotty, you have some amazing advice. This can be helpful to anyone at any ranks and that says something about your choice of words and the wisdom behind them. You are an inspiration to all gamers! Keep up the great stuff, sir!
the line: "even if it's not your fault--it's your fault." is SO TRUE. When you feel defensive and think it was all somebody else's fault, you have to step back and know that there was ALWAYS something you could have done better, and that's all that matters.
@@thothtrismegistus4726 The thing is that might be true but it doesn't matter for you. You are the constant in every match so if you just focus on your own gameplay you will climb. Your team members literally don't matter.
Your video was really helpful. It made me genuinely stop and think about how I'm playing around my team and what i can change, because I've having a miserable time of it so far with teammates. What you said makes a lot of sense. I insta subbed after this video. Thanks and keep videos and advice coming, its appreciated.
Nice video, something I don't see talked about often is using voice comms. I rarely have people even speaking in my matches, so I take it upon myself to be the shotcaller. Even simple things like "let's back up" or "I'm going in" helps a lot.
Love this video, usually I focus on improving and I had a moment where I was so happy because mistakes I made two nights ago - I didn't make them last night. This video motivates me to go and grind volume and focus on being the best I can be. Thanks!
You're doing great!! Obviously the Marvel Rivals content is fantastic, but I subbed because I like how you talk. Straight-forward and to the point. Plus the NY accent 😊
Happy to sub while you're still growing the channel. There's creators who don't make videos half as informative with 10x the subscriber base and that's how we know you'll make it brotha.
Thank you man your videos have really helped me just become a better player and a better person online. Learning not to care has made me play better surprisingly, Thank you
Your tips really work creating a mindset around this game. I got to a point where I was not enjoying it and was in bronze purgatory. Finally got to gold and still climbing
Big love for you man. If it wasn’t clear enough from the other comments, your content is great. Love the personality and tips. Never drags on, and isn’t annoying. Keep it up and take care of yourself bro❤
People enjoy casual conversation and the human element of it. Glad you and others push the type of content that you do. Podcasts blew up for this very reason. So much easier to listen when you can resonate with the speaker. Great stuff man and well deserved!
Bro you’re dope. Been watching Rivals content since it dropped, hoping to find one creator who speaks to me. You’re it bruh! I’m a competitive minded player who seeks to improve in more ways than just the game. You’ve got lots of helpful insight in the regard! Since watching you I’ve changed up some of my habits and developed routines IN LIFE, so that I can set myself up for success IN GAME. Wild how much a game can give you motivation in life when you have the drive! Haven’t felt like this since I was really competitive in YuGiOh maybe 10y ago. Big props for being my new go-to homie
you got that many subs from one video cus you speak actual facts my guy, you change peoples perspectives and that is what is sorely needed, keep it up bro
No, My brother THANK YOU. I can not tell how much help you’ve given me in this game. And your yap session are really well done and most importantly they’re realistic and honest. Telling myself it’s my fault we lost a game as helped me practice and grind even harder and I’m now ranking up as we speak. (Also this is my first ever shooter and I’m now stomping ppl out in ranked) See you in GM😎
Thank you so fucking much for these videos. Everything you said is true. I was stuck in silver for the longest time, getting constantly tilted and blaming my teammates. And while yeah, the teammates could suck, but at the end of the day, the only constant in all my matches is me. You helped me look inward and figure out what I was doing wrong. I eventually broke out of the silver ranks, and now just a 3-4 days after hitting gold, I’m in Diamond 2. I’ll continue watching your videos because I want to continue improving. I’ve been 1 tricking it until now as a support, but I’m gonna try to learn Thor. I have a decent amount of hours on him in season 0 ranked, but I was getting stomped because of the bad healers. That’s mainly the reason I switched to strategist lol. I’m lowkey not super confident in going into ranked with Thor, but I’ll give it a shot
Love this video. After a rough day of comp I always tune into your yap sessions to get knocked back down a peg and accept its probably my fault. Its helped my mental a lot
Man this channel helped me so much, now i dont feel uselles when i solo queue mostly as tank, now I can flex with a bunch of characters that I like! Tyvm Shotty for appearing on my recommendations, now I can get valuable info for improvement
This video was actually really helpful. I only solo queue and was getting to the point of just dropping the game out of frustration but changing my mindset and just try to learn
Your videos especially this one have made my solo q rank journey feel like a cake walk than last season due to your tips. I used to have a fear my main would be useless until reaching a certain point but learning more characters makes it so easy😭 I could say more but thank you fr
I'm early enough to leave a comment! Been appreciating all of your uploads. Always a pleasure to listen to you in the background while I do other things!
I really like the outlook your friend had of 'as long as I'm doing my job - I'm queueing.' I am pretty new to playing games competitively so that's a great way to look at how to approach games.
These ranked advice. videos have been a welcome sanity check as someone new to this type of game. I’m not the best player, but I’ve learned a lot from this channel.
Just found this and immediately feeling confident in solo gameplay, was getting super dejected just cause i kept losing but as long as i do my job i know my day will come
love they way you explain things man, this is also my first competitive game since I stopped playing apex like 3 years ago? i only hit diamond in that, but I like how you went on to talk about knowing your strengths because I'm at a loss with this, I'm just mediocre at everything unfortunately
These yap sessions has been great help for me playing this game. I originally came from CoD and been wanting to try something new and better and when I gave this game a shot, I have been grinding this game non stop. Ranked was never my thing in any game but I gave it a shot and the experience was dreadful but fun in a way.. I wanted to one trick Psylocke for ranked but it made me learn Loki since everyone wants to be DPS.. And I must say, Loki is so much fun to play. There are games where I want to use Psylocke and continue to master her but man, it sucks where everyone else wants to play DPS. Playing support is pretty fun and I'm considering one tricking and maining Loki and also play Cloak and Dagger on the side. Also, this isnt the video for this but your aiming video helped alot.. I never used any mnk on any shooter games but this game made me switch to mnk.. I tried playing on controller but it felt awful.. Mnk made me feel like im more in control of my character.. Still gotta work on my aim a bit but it takes time.
As a solo queue player who’s on my first hero shooter I wanna say thanks for helping me understand the ins and outs since I picked up more than your average player within like a week
I love that you keep pinging on accountability. Too many games where people blame healers for not keeping them alive but if you don't have positional awareness and you break LoS, you made a decision to self heal. If people would accept that reality, i believe everyone would be happier. Love what you do. Keep up the great work!
This is an awesome video. My dps mains are Squirrel Girl and Winter Soldier but now I might add Starlord as another dps main to help with solo queing and get just as good as you are with him. Tysm for the video!
Yah I find SG to be a good solo que hero for dps since it's typically just easier to get value out of her which in the end means gaining more elo OR losing less elo when u lose due to you doing so much usually.
Good advice. Main reason I'll run into a quick match of when I'm trying out a new character that I'm clueless with. I don't want to drag down a ranked match. The physical advice is great all around.
As a retail worker who needs something playing in my ear to stay sane, these yap sessions are amazing and even longer ones would be even better. Either way, keep up the hard work bro, here before 1 million subs 👍
love your vids bro always listen to them in the car would also love to hear how u got into the gym and how you built discipline keep it up bro love your content 🙏
Hey man just wanted to say great video, ive been semi stuck bronze 1 as healer main, litterly pratically never play dps. But atleast my playstyle im not an aggressive (or good enough) support main to carry in support. so ill start looking at Tank and especially DPS. And i will say people dont get stuck in the head space that it is ONLY you (happened to me recently) as sometimes it just be that way. To fellow solo support who are climbing god speed yall deserve to be higher
I play with my friends, usually a team of 4 or 6. It would be so cool if you made a video with tips for entire teams, as most of your advice in other videos is aimed at solo queueing. I would love to see what tips you have for entire teams. Great content as usual!
Because as a team if you have solid roles its literally easy af, this game wasnt made for solo queing unless u have all the time in the world to just grind for hours on end lol, someone like me who works a 9-5 can be svp for 20games in a row and lose but when I play with a team for 2 hours i go from gold 2 back to freakin plat
Great tips, thanks! Though I've actually experienced the opposite with quick play and ranked - albeit I'm top end of silver cus yes I'm one of those dads who has 5 mins a day to play but I'm also kicking ass (well, mostly - I can only be so good with minimal playtime right!) during those times. Anyway in QP you get teams with level 50s, balanced roles and good performances. In ranked I'm getting 5 dps (I switch to healer if there are none - I'm 2 trick Magik and Invisible woman) and they're all level 12 cycling through 4 or 5 characters a game. It would solve so many problems if there was a 1 switch limit after the game has started, more so than role locking during the picks (which tbh is sorely needed please enforce 1 tank and 1 healer min!) EDIT: This isn't my 1st solo queue experience so I agree you should expect nothing from your team mates. When I'm healing I pride myself on keeping the over extenders alive, and when I'm a dps I have come to enjoy surviving a dive with ground heals only. Its such a nice bonus to get external heals 😂
Im an old man last time I played video games it was two buttons and a joystick 😅😅😅and been getting trashed for playing ranked but I figured if you want to get good u gotta play the best so I play ranked I only play because my son play's hard to get teen-agers to spend time with you so this game is how we do that but enough rambling thank you for the tips and confidence boost ❤❤👍👍👍
Honestly one thing that is useful in ranked is changing your teams, or team comps. I once played spiderman with the symbiote bond and we lost the first match, I switch to Iron man and the venom uses hulk and we dominate the enemy team, we realized they liked to stick together and the it was also my first time ever using the Hulk iron man team comp, it was so fun. You can also request others to switch healers or tanks to dps so u can take their role which makes HUGE differences.
Thank for remind me of this. I used to think this way when i was player other online competitive games but i was like sober for a long time until marvel rivals.
Your videos have really helped me adjust my mentality towards this game. I’ve never liked PvP because I typically get too angry. After watching your stuff, I just don’t care about losing anymore. I see loses as learning experiences now. I go back, maybe watch the game again and see what I could have done differently and try to adapt accordingly.
I'm glad you said to keep queueing and don't worry about tilt or losers queue or anything like that. Things like that make people scared of comp especially as they get higher up and not only is it much more likely that they'll have a bad time and get nerves, but that on top of never making any decent progress in your gameplay or in your rank doesn't help either. Should just take a break for a few minutes and walk around or something and mentally reset if you need it (I do it like every couple hours), but being scared of playing the game because you are thinking about your rank and not your improvement is a feedback loop that will waste far more time than the MMR loss of losing a few more games.
You have given me so much more confidence in my gameplay. These tips on solo queueing are so helpful, mainly from a mental standpoint. I used to have crippling fear of playing ranked once I got to a certain point. People say “the best way to get better is to play”. Don’t worry about your rank and your rank will come.

No practice vs ai hard mode

This is an awesome video. My dps mains are Squirrel Girl and Winter Soldier but now I might add Starlord as another dps main to help with solo queing and get just as good as you are with him. Tysm for the video!
Yah I find SG to be a good solo que hero for dps since it's typically just easier to get value out of her which in the end means gaining more elo OR losing less elo when u lose due to you doing so much usually.
Some actually solid advice, this guy is the kind of teammate we hope for in solo queue lol
loved the video, loved your mentality
Good advice. Main reason I'll run into a quick match of when I'm trying out a new character that I'm clueless with. I don't want to drag down a ranked match. The physical advice is great all around.
idk man something about hearing bro get hype over 1200 subs feels so wholesome. Keep grinding man
Always appreciate these. Never realized I'm not subbed til you mentioned it
As a retail worker who needs something playing in my ear to stay sane, these yap sessions are amazing and even longer ones would be even better. Either way, keep up the hard work bro, here before 1 million subs 👍
Same lol
love your vids bro always listen to them in the car would also love to hear how u got into the gym and how you built discipline keep it up bro love your content 🙏
Great tip on just queuing up more and more games. as long as you feel you're playing your own role correctly it will outshine in time
Your vids are good you deserve the subs bro
Hey man just wanted to say great video, ive been semi stuck bronze 1 as healer main, litterly pratically never play dps. But atleast my playstyle im not an aggressive (or good enough) support main to carry in support. so ill start looking at Tank and especially DPS. And i will say people dont get stuck in the head space that it is ONLY you (happened to me recently) as sometimes it just be that way. To fellow solo support who are climbing god speed yall deserve to be higher
i liked listening to you while playing, good job
New sub here, thank you very much for the advices :)
Literally was struggling with this today and boom video lol
5:05 is really something I need to work on, thanks for pointing that out
Love your point about accountability
Leaving a comment to help boost your algorithm numbers my man.
Lol im gaming since over 20y. But your first 2 mins hit me so hard!!! You are absolute right and I should learn to be more tolerant. 😊
Love your yaps. I Listen while I drive.
Great video. Thanks Shotty. :)
It would solve so many problems if there was a 1 switch limit after the game has started, more so than role locking during the picks (which tbh is sorely needed please enforce 1 tank and 1 healer min!)
EDIT: This isn't my 1st solo queue experience so I agree you should expect nothing from your team mates.
Another sick episode to listen to whilst chilling. Btw do you stream? And if so which platform?
great vid, appreciate u
Honestly one thing that is useful in ranked is changing your teams, or team comps. I once played spiderman with the symbiote bond and we lost the first match, I switch to Iron man and the venom uses hulk and we dominate the enemy team, we realized they liked to stick together and the it was also my first time ever using the Hulk iron man team comp, it was so fun. You can also request others to switch healers or tanks to dps so u can take their role which makes HUGE differences.
Thank for remind me of this. I used to think this way when i was player other online competitive games but i was like sober for a long time until marvel rivals.
Very good takes, as always.
Just watched 3 of your vids back to back really enjoy the content *algorithm
Thanks for the solo queue tips.. i will do that from now on.. just gonna close the in game chat and play ❤
🔥 vid 🙌🏼
Thank you h sir, your positivity is what we need. Even if sometimes the truth stings. Great listing too you. ❤🎉
