We first went to Asbury Park in 1957 after we moved from Rockaway Beach Queens to Old Bridge. As a 7 year old kid I was in awe of everything here, the great coaster, carousel, The Casino, and Palace Amusements, great pinball, skeet ball and the machines here you could use that crane inside to pick a prize. Asbury is still legendary, one of the best places on Earth cuz I've gone to The Stone Pony, Wonder Bar, The Fast Lane and the Paramount to see a lot of great bands. We had Rockaways Playland as a small kid in the Queens projects, but it will never compare to Asbury Park.

At the 4 minute marker, that's Convention Hall. My high school graduation (1985, Ocean Township HS) was held there. I still have it recorded on VHS somewhere. SOOOO Many amazing memories throughout the years here. Since birth to today. :)

I remember AP from the late 40's early 50's when I was a child. Sad that probably 90% of the people in this film are no longer with us. The last time I visited was probably 15 years ago when it was just starting to come back. Might have to visit again when this pandemic virus is gone. Skeet shooting on the boardwalk, how times have changed.

And at minute 2:55 I can see the darker building in the upper left corner, this is where my soon to be husband took me for a fancy dinner before we went back home to Bradley Beach and he proposed to me in front of the fireplace. It was a super fancy well know place, yet their name escapes me. LOL!

The Asbury Park I knew (and still miss) as a boy was in the early to mid 1960's. This is still fascinating, though. I also love the music beginning at 5.00. What is it?

Great video! Would you mind if we featured your 4 part series on Asbury Park TV?

It used to be such a beautiful place. Now it's really not that great. Sure, they've done some stuff to try and perk it up, but they aren't willing to put the money into re-establishing what once was and so Asbury will never be again.

Ia that pier in AP or OG?

That must be the Ocean Grove fishing pier, which was being renovated and reconstructed when I was last there in June. My cousin Cheryl and her husband Joe who passed away had a cottage on Abbott Ave. My sister Linda's daughter Karin and her husband Tim were married in St. Paul's Methodist Church here.
