This is why talk therapy made my CPTSD worse instead of better because to tell you what happened to me and the symptoms I developed as a result, I have to picture it in my mind and if I see it in my head, I'm reliving it in my body because neither my brain nor my body knows the difference between if what I'm thinking about is real or imagined, happening now, again, or just a memory of the past. The more I talked about it, the more it kept the trauma fresh and alive which meant I was reliving it over and over because talking about it keeps it fresh. It's like regularly watering a plant and wondering why the plant is growing instead of dying.

yeah, you need to keep one foot in the present when doing this, otherwise it makes things worse or doesn't do anything as you are not rewiring and making a new experience.

Hey Dan just wanted to tell you I don’t watch your videos much anymore because I’m doing so much better. I was once suffering from 50+ debilitating symptoms and I hung on your every word every day. I as get more of my life back I no longer have to watch all your videos since I know what has caused them I know how to respond to them. Thanks for all you do. God bless

I’m out in Glasgow city centre trying to shop for shoes for my son trying to ignore/down play some pretty colourful symptoms. At least I’m out I guess. Even went to the busy food court in St Enoch’s centre so proud of myself even if the symptoms aren’t shifting. Thanks Dan

Focus on life again! You get what you focus on! Just go do Life. Overthinking the symptoms really keeps them flared up. Think less and DO more. It’s harder to think about your pains when you are doing other things. Just the concept alone is calming to the nervous system. If you don’t believe it …it won’t work for you.

Hi Dan yes I speak about the sensations less and less. To Martin I never speak about them and he doesn't ask so that is good. When I do speak about them I say they are colourful sparkling etc or it is a challenging day. I dont speak about the sensations in a specific way nobody will understand anyway😊. I live my life the best way I can and trust the process that I will recover. Ty Dan happy to see you at your beloved lake❤ sending you much love and to all of you here on TH-cam ❤🌷😁🥳🥰❤️🦔

It's been hard to talk about way I don't walk very far or go to various social gatherings because of how weird I feel. I look normal but my feet and legs are so uncomfortable as well as my eyes. I feel like I need to say something because people don't understand why I'm so withdrawn. I've really struggled with belief but I've finally crossed that bridge. Met with Dr. Schubiner over a year ago. Thanks for your videos.

  • @RobLewis3

I don't talk about my symptoms. Because I don't want to look weak or be a downer, or as you said perpetuate them. But also it's a bit of a double-edged sword for me because I feel like I'm not "allowed" to be in pain because I don't want to look weak, which is definitely creating some extra pressure there. I am sure that if I got so desperate, I would go for support, but I probably wouldn't tell my family because I don't want them to worry.

Dan I would appreciate if you could do a video on the fact that we are surrounded in everyday life with perceived danger. I see everywhere talk of war, violence, cancer adverts, murders etc... this surely must not be good for people who are succeptable to PDP. Thanks, Wayne.

Great advice! We are what we think. Sounds simplistic, but it's a big element of pain. Keep your mind occupied. My perseption of my symptoms subsides when I am playing guitar or watching hockey or baseball. Yes, pain is all too real, but don't reinforce your pain by overthinking because the more you talk about your symptoms the more you will feel your symptoms. I push myself to walk almost every day with my wife, it hurts, but it feels food mentally (if that makes sense). Keep telling yourself you are feeling better... our mind thrives on positively.

Imo a lot of therapy starts with the premise we are broken. Imo most anxiety and depression is a misunderstanding of body and mind.

Before this video came up - I saw a quote online by Dr Bruce Lipton that said:
"Most illness is just stress from not living in harmony....."
To me this concisely says what Dan teaches every day... Our "illness/pains/symptoms" are the stress result from PDP - and not feeling safe / living in harmony.....
Very wise man Bruce Lipton and also Dan.... ❤❤❤

I don't recommend for or against it. It's a tool that others teach. Some find it useful, others don't. I don't teach it because it's not my process and many get well without using it. That was not part of my cure. Try it and if you like it and it helps, wonderful.

Another great video Dan! In addition to developing mindfulness we might also learn to talk to our "self" in reassurance language (not a pull yourself up by bootstraps or toxic positivity talk) rather than seeking that from others which is usually why we talk about it. These issues develop often from the fear inducing traumas experienced in childhood and the accompanying lack of being healthily soothed by the caregivers, so becoming your own inner re-assurer and self soother is long term effective and not just the short term relief of talking to someone else which doesn't give us the inner state to resolve what is going on inside our own minds.
