My grandfather passed away in 2012, and every year on his birthday the family gathers at his grave and I sing this song because it was his favorite. It always brings tears to my mom and aunts.
Been hearing this song all my life by Frank Sinatra and many others and singing it for the last 40 years or so in Weddings, Private Parties, Birthdays, etc. Definitely it is a song that people relate to very easy because it tells a story from the beginning to the end since every body lives their life the way they want to. I have had the opportunity to sing it in every cruise I have taken with my family and won the first prize as the Voice of the Sea. !What a wonderful experience! Went for my last visit of my great friend Frank in hospice last year, the nurses told me that he would be "non responsive" - Really? I will change that right now...Sinatra was his favorite, so I put the Sinatra version on and held the phone close to his ear... didn't take long for his eyes to well up. I knew he was still there, that I would get a reaction out of him by playing this for him. When the song was over he looked up at me and gave me a big smile as if to say yes, I did do it my way. I will always keep this last memory of Frank Luna. Rest in peace my friend-

Even my older brother thought it was pretty good, so that’s how I know they aren’t lying.
