Thanks David I have had to unlearn so much and let loose more and the results have been fantastic . Long way to go but I am painting from inside now and it's inspiring .
You are a excellent teacher. I needed to view this right now. Thank you. I love art, I like to see others enjoy my art, I like showing my kids what can be accomplished through art
Instructional videos 'how do I paint a tree, how do I paint a cloud, how do I paint a rock? Who cares'....you're so funny. I'm a late starter at 60 but I'm so pleased I have found your advice. All I want to do is paint abstract, and you have given me the confidence after watching your videos. I have found everything I needed to know here, so thank you from the UK.
Fabulous advice for creating freedom of expression. Thanks for the amazing generosity in your tutorials - hope to attend a workshop in the future - you're a long way from NZ.
You’re welcome - I appreciate you watching! I have online courses just for folks like you that are too far away to attend a workshop. Links are in the description.
Hi David! I love your style of explaining, motivating and teaching business in a straight forward, very practical way. Hope to paint with you one day. All the best from Canada.
Thanks for watching "Differentiate Your Art." Leave me any comments or questions you have and I will respond as soon as possible. Be sure to like and share the video with your friends. Thanks again!
Thanks so much for your videos, David. I always appreciate listening to your experiences and advice. I've painted whimsical portraits for years but have recently begun to transition to abstract art. It's a whole new world but an exciting one! BTW, it's January 2021, which just shows you that a video created in May 2018 is just as timely today as it was then. :)
Barbi, you’re welcome. Best wishes on moving forward with abstract painting. You should join me for a live workshop or an online workshop sometime soon.
@@davidm.kesslerfineart1717 im just starting, I'm 40 years old, and didn't get any art .. Thank you
shira kiu there is certainly a lot of BS in the art world. There are also lots of people who don’t want to give away their “secrets”. One of the reasons I started this channel was to break thru the myths and tell the truth. Thanks so much for watching!
ArtInMyHeartStudio thanks for watching. I’ve done many videos on all the materials I use - you might want to check them out. I use Golden and Nova Color brands of paint.
Every time I create a new piece of art I photograph it with my phone camera. There is an app that will then compare it to other pieces of art that it resembles. Every single time I think I've created something unique, I find out that 20-30 other people have made something very similar to it. There are over 7 billion people in the world so it's no surprise that other people have had the same ideas already. Depressing.
You know what's funny, though? You said that certain color combinations don't work...but I've sold many paintings using colors that aren't "supposed to" go together. I do love your videos but I found I was getting depressed because I wasn't using colors that you said specifically go together. I guess I now take from your videos stuff that is relevant to me and not worry about the rest. The proof is in my sales. I still learn so much from you, I just don't necessarily have to regard you as the ultimate expert. LOL. Hope you don't take that the wrong way.
I don't have an "official" website yet. I'm working on it. In the last year, my art sales have picked up considerably. One of my sisters has been my biggest fan/customer but I've been telling everyone about my art and giving out my business cards. However, you can check out my art on my Facebook page: Maura NiConnell's Art. There's an accent over the 'i' in NiConnell but I don't know how to type that here. LOL. Also, I have new stuff on my "regular" Facebook page (Maura NiConnell) that I haven't uploaded to my art page. I'm getting ready to put some of my stuff in an art show, so time is kind of crazy at the moment.
DrummerGrrrl Can't find you on facebook via searching what you gave. Did find a profile on fineartamerica with no art uploaded. No worries. Was just interested in what you had to say re colours. Hope you're successful selling outside family.
DrummerGrrrl sales don’t make art good. Most buyers that pay $2k or less for a painting are very unsophisticated. Just because you sold some bad art isn’t an excuse to keep making bad art. A person like me who is a professional will see your work and immediately know that you have no concept of color harmony. If your work gets more expensive you’ll begin to lose customers if your work isn’t good. Just sayin.
@@davidm.kesslerfineart1717 I just sat and watched about 50 0f your videos. What engaged me most was your talk about needing to create.I have always been creative but recent and past physical reversals have curtailed my physical activities. I have always loved painting but spend the past 30 years making pottery. Now I am longing to improve my abstract acrylic paintings. You had so many valuable suggestions that I intend to use my time more expressive lyrics in the days ahead. Thank you.
I hate time-lapse videos too! I think people do that so that they don't "give away their secrets". If that's the case, why the hell would they even bother making a video?
