    Over 500 dollars more for the 500i new. IF you need every second, then guess its worth it, for most homeowners the 400 C-M is MORE THAN ENOUGH!!

      I agree ☝️but when you put longer bars on the 500 reins supreme. The oiler on the 400 needs to be upgraded to run 25 or bigger for any length of time…. Love my 4 hundy though….

    It's a great comparison because it shows each saw in its peak range. The 400 is a beast with a 20" bar and the 500 is hyper with a 25". It's scale and application. Nice to see side by side. If you burried the 25" bar in larger wood like you buried the 20", the times would probably be much closer...again, bigger wood, bigger saw. The 400 is a lot lighter to work with if cutting medium sized stuff. Nice to have both!

      @southernstarreview  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Corey. The 500I retails around AU$2449 and the 400 is about AU$1999.
      P.s go the 500i if you can it is awesome.....Dont tell Shaino 🤫🤫

    • @southernstarreview
      @southernstarreview  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey corey, the 400 is heaps lighter and less expensive. You can swing it all day and it even sounds better. 100% go the 400 but don’t tell steveo…🤪

    I feel like if the 400 had a good custom hand filing job put on it it could if shave quite a few seconds off that time! I don’t think it would beat the 500 that’s just a saw all on its own but I’m not very impressed with the out of box sharpness of any new chains I always do a lil file work on them before I use them but the 400 deff wasn’t throwing the chips the 500 was they were a lot finer!!

      @southernstarreview  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Terry. Yes, a bit more of an edge on the 400 would have made up a bit of time. Both chains were BNIB and were not used at all until we filmed. We might do a follow up quick vid after a hand sharpen and see the difference

      @@southernstarreview I remember when chainsaw chains came out of the box like little razors from stihl!! Now sometimes they come really sharp just ok and pre dulled sometimes! They still make a great chain just need some touch up to get them where they should have came out of the box to begin with!! Both those saws are absolutely beast of a saws though! I own the 462 and the 500I my father just got the 400 and those three saws are the best three saws made today!! Can’t wait to see some more test with these two!!

      @terrycalvert7812 thanks Terry. Just spoke to Shaino, and he agrees. I head out west in a couple of weeks, so not sure if we will have time to get it done before that, but we will definitely do it.
      Appreciate your help mate.

    400 is a nice saw, mine doesent oil for &@#=. 400 won't pull a 28" bar well. Manages a 25" ok. It shines with a 20" bar. The 500, will pull any length bar. 500 likes the big wood. It's happiest when ya bury 28" plus bar in big wood. 400 is an excellent, lightweight firewood saw. It fulfills that job very well.

      I think your spot on with your comment! The 400 with a 20” bar is perfect for all day cutting the weight and balance are awesome. Thinking of getting mine ported… the 500 is amazing in big wood 🪵! Or with long bars! Cheers shaino

    I have the 400 a lot cheaper than the 500 still a pro saw and cut just like the 500 . Why spend the extra money?

    • @southernstarreview
      @southernstarreview  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      G'day @hillbilly918. Cheers for your comment and support.
      To be honest, mate, the 500i is maybe the most versatile saw from Sthil. The MS400 is an awesome saw, which probably takes care of most work. But once you have used the 500i, the difference is there. I run the 500i pretty much 100% now, except for when I need the 881Magnum.
      But hey! Both are definitely amazing chainsaws.
