- This was the start of our family's 5-month long cycling adventure in Europe in the Spring and Summer of 2023. After taking a train from Sevilla to a suburb, our bike tour took us through Spanish countryside and towns to a ferry crossing into Portugal.
Biked March 10 - March 12, 2023.
This was part of a 5 month long family bike tour of Europe we did on sabbatical. Bike touring with kids was challenging but it was ultimately the best adventure yet!

So cool. Funny hearing the kids with their music playing whilst riding 😁
Yeah, I'm hoping that's considered fair use :)
This is a great adventure! I can imagine this being a life long memory for everyone.
Definitely! The kids were at a perfect age where they could actually do it and that they will also remember it.
It s so relaxing watching your videos! I wish I could have people like you around me, so We can do this together!
Big like for making such a lovely experiences for your kids! 🤩
I can t wait to do this in the summer. I already planned a bikepacking trip from North of Portugal down the west coast, south coast of Portugal then heading through all the south of Spain and France. Portugal is so wow! 🤩
❤
Cool experience i guess, werde you traveling with e bikes?
No, all leg power.
What family adventures have you taken on? What adventures do you want to try?
Was this the first such trip you've done as a family? How did you prepare for it?
This was certainly the first trip this long. We did a week-long rail to trail trip in Idaho in the summer of 2020 - that's when we first thought that we might be able to take on a longer trip. The preparations really intensified in the 6 months leading up to it, but they were mostly route planning, travel logistics, visas, making arrangements for the kids' schoolwork, and prepping the bikes and gear. The physical cycling preparations were pretty minimal - we limited the daily planned distance to match what we were capable of at the time.
