The half break is a standard vernacular jazz move that you see in all sorts of vintage solo routines. It is also a super flexible step that you can use as a transition or within a partnership. In this video, we'll go over the basic half, the syncopated, the shuffle step, and SO MANY VARIATIONS!

50% of the money made from this channel is donated to organizations that support African Diasporic art forms, because Lindy Hop is a Black dance, and preserving and cultivating Blackness is very important to its identity. My current charities are:
Black Lindy Hopper's Fund: blacklindyhoppersfund.org/
National Jazz Museum in Harlem: jazzmuseuminharlem.org/
so good & comprehensive!
Thanks Laura!!
Thanks for the great lesson :)
HOW have I not found this absolute gem of a channel earlier??
Also your blouse is super pretty :)
Ha! Trying to look nice for you folks!
I love the final jam! 😍So many ideas!!
That's what I was hoping for! Steal 'em!
@@LauraGlaess I will!! 😎
This is perfect! You just answered all my questions! How did you know?? 💕
Hey Laura, i have heard of a move called 'Break The Eight', is it an extension of the break? or something different?
I've actually never heard of"Break the Eight" before! I'll be on the lookout for it.
@@LauraGlaess awesome, thanks Laura
This looks like it could easily be tap dancing, is there a lot of overlap between Lindy Hop and tap?
Great question - there is a TON of overlap between tap dancing and solo jazz dance. We have a lot of the same figures, but they are generally simplified. For example, Lindy Hoppers frequently don't put the shuffle in the half break.
Off topic, but where is that cat tree from???
My dad made it. That thing is insane, right?
@@LauraGlaess It's spectacular.
hi, when you hit too hard the floor, the camera is jumping (so is the image)
Yes, I hate it! I think I just figured out a fix!
You started doing these over a year ago...? You mean...that wasn't just a few weeks ago...? 🥺
I know. I can't believe the pandemic is still happening. I'm so ready. Everyone is so ready.
