My favorite part about this dance style is that it has such an emphasis on fun. Only the most talented can successfully fake this kind of energy and happiness. It requires coordination and planning but you have to be in the mood for it to avoid making it look stiff.

The best part about this dance is that it makes you instantly happy when you start dancing. So you dont have to fake it:)

I have a friend who does the Lindy Hop, he is a train guard on a private steam train and very quiet & reserved that is until he is on stage doing the Lindy Hop and the transformation is incredible! Can’t believe he is the same person. So much energy & the way he swings his partner (I’m thinking hey ho ! ) he wears the most fab set of clothes too. I say if you have got - get out there!

Whilst this is a VERY admirable statement, let's remember that only the people who got to go to the parties in the twenties were having the fun. It wasn't all that fun for those who were destitute and poor. But as I said , a very admirable want to have!

I went to try some lindy hop today with my dad. Although it was an introductory course, i was quite clearly the only one there who didn’t know the basic dance moves. Felt a bit out of place and i cant say i really got the hang of it from that one time, but im glad i did it. I’ve been allergic to dancing my entire (albeit, rather short) life and it was nice to get to dance with people you dont know with no strings attached, or history. The fact you change partner every few minutes also makes it way less awkward.

Looks like a dance where every couple needs their own dancefloor. Probably why I've never seen it before.

@@enricoiraldo9057 are you joking? Were you putting an expectation on yourself to be good at something on your first try? That's harsh, man. I was shite the first time too. And the second, and really for months. People who are already good might be coming from other dances, or it's advanced dancers who wanna refresh the basics, or they are helping out with the class, and they would never look down on you for not knowing something you haven't even tried before. So, if you really like it, don't let this stop you :)

I've been very productive in this quarantine. I learned the charleston and some solo swing steps. But now I'm really depressed, because I feel like I'm finally light on my feet enough to try this sort of stuff with a partner...except I can't. Thanks COVID.

For anyone wondering, most of these dancers do this as a hobby, though some may teach it too. Very few if any paid performers. also it's a Jack and Jill dance, these people have likely never partnered with each other.

And they probably had no idea what was gonna play until the moment they heard it. Jack and Jills are awesome tbh

Valerie Vivian well to be fair the concept of swing music is kind of the same everywhere 😉 so judging by how great they already are I think they wouldn’t have a problem with a „generic“ swing backround music 😅
