Man it's sad that RAF Woodbridge is gone :( I lived there, but worked on RAF Bentwaters... Great times there!! Miss the UK and the People!! AIC Don Wilson 81st Services Squdaron, 1982-1985, AAFES Running Chef/Base Gas Stations 1986-1990.
@Texas 262 I worked there building houses for you guys, it's hard to describe now the feeling of closeness between us UK civis and the USAF guys we met on a daily basis.
Thank you for putting together these videos, I was born in '96 so never experienced the true extent of the Twin bases but have always been fascinated with their history and what has been lost.
I was a boy living in Woodbridge in 1967. Phantoms flying low over our school were a regular occurrence. American families living about the town were part of the scene.
Hi Thomas. That would be the 'post war' standard width at Woodbridge. The shrubbery either side of the runway masks the actual width of the WWII Emergency runway which was 250 yards (230 metres) wide... All the best.
The British Army are withdrawing from Germany now . ( there are less than 30 ,000 now in West Germany ) so many old bases that were thought gone or finished in the UK are being renovated and having lots of money spent on them to house those Regiments returning from Germany. St George's Barracks ,Bicester is one such place . Very run down when l was based there in the 90s . With full closure expected . But now with a new lease of life .

It was a different world when I was stationed at RAF Woodbridge. It was Nuclear War we prepared for in 1967 thru 1970.
At 6:06 the runway looks small in width
