- In this video I cut open some rocks from our recent rockhounding trips to see what's inside. Some nice surprises! We ended up having some Jasper agates and some plume agates! Beautiful colors! Please like and subscribe if you are digging these videos.

I really like that you take time to show the outside of the rock, instead of just the face where you cut. Most rock cutting videos don't do that, so thanks!

love that piece at 11 minutes, it look like a white fox laying down..beautiful..ive been fishing local rivers all my life and loved rock but never paid attention to what they are except as of late..brand new rock hound thanks for sharing....

Amazing cuts!Just amazing..How can you make such a great guess about inside of the rock.Jasper is magnificent..They should make the best jewerly if it..lol..May be you will find a way..Even in a nice bowl in a living room..To play with and enjoy looking at..I believe those rock interfere with our magnetic fields in a way it make us not feeling lost in a universe..Love your videos!Keep going😊
Thanks for the kind words and for your support!!! There’s no science behind choosing which way to cut. Sometimes is based on what’s the easiest way to cut it with the saw!!
Yes, very nice. The 2nd to last is definitely my favorite. I do hope you you can make something VERY nice out of those pieces. And I’m thinking the one you thought was wood might be Rhyolite. A lot of the California desert Rhyolite looks just like that. Thank you for sharing!💎

I almost think that the piece you weren't sure of might be a stromatolite fragment. That wouldn't be inconsistent with the area. Pretty stuff.
I think it was Coral. The till in that area overlies a carbonate reef structure.

I'd lean toward metamorphic on that stone over pet wood. I find a bunch of that deceptive directionality in jasper specimens. The jasper is a bit brighter here, but that milk glass white just like what we find down here on the Rogue. It's really cool to see such similar stones separated by thousands of miles.
Yeah its definitely not pet wood. I completely changed my tune on it. I'm pretty sure its flow banded rhyolite. The thing i love about Nova Scotia jasper is that it comes in such a variety of colors and textures depending where you are. Dark red, bright red, yellow, green. Thanks for watching!!

Those last few pieces from Five Islands were amazing! I grew up rockhounding, but there is not much to find where I live now, so it is nice seeing these videos.

@@RockhoundingLife I grew up in Montana, but live in Hawaii now. I have found some small quartz crystals, and a little bit of jasper, but not much more than that. I have collected an abundance of enhydros within the quartz crystals, so that has been fun. But for the most part, the geology is just too young to have developed many interesting mineral deposits.

That's some nice material you got there, Those red and yellow jasp-agates would make some awesome cabs. I think the rock at 3:50 is a chunk of flow banded Rhyolite, I've found some similar material here in BC.
Thanks! Yeah you could be right on that rock. I’m still a bit stumped on it. Rhyolite is the extrusive equivalent to granite when talking igneous rocks so it should have the same mineral assemblages as granite (Feldspar, Quartz, biotite). It’s possible they are in there. I suggested metamorphic because the minerals look grouped together in the banding. It’s fun trying to figure this stuff out!!!

Yes I came to this realization after I cut it. Its most likely flow banded rhyolite.
im like 95% sure the pet wood lookalike is a Banded Iron Formation or BIF
Hi there. This rock has been a mystery for sure. It isn’t magnetic so I don’t think it’s BIF. I don’t think it’s pet wood either as I initially thought. I’ve now settled on flow banded Rhyolite but still not 100%.

Awesome cuts man! If you don't mind me asking, what kind of set up do you have for the saw? I'm looking into getting some gear for tumbling/cutting.
I have a 7” Ryobi table top wet tile saw I use for trimming seam agates and smaller rocks. I have a 7” top cut wet tile saw for my bigger rocks ( probably will upgrade to a “10 saw soon). I polish my cut rocks with a 10 stage/grit polishing wheel set that I attach to my drill. For tumbling I have a 6lb tumbler I use for my coarse runs, a double barrel (3lb each) tumbler for stage 3-4 and a single 3lb tumbler for polish. I keep all my stages running in the same barrels all the time. You don’t have to do that but I find it helps keep contamination down. As a beginner I would just get a single barrel 3lb tumbler or a double barrel 3lb tumbler.
After my vacation (mid Aug) I will do a video showing my set up.
@@RockhoundingLife right on man, that's a nice set up, I was looking into a double barrel vibratory tumbler as well, not sure if the claims of it being any faster are true or not.
I will probably switch over to a larger rotary barrel for coarse runs and then get a vibratory tumbler for all the other stages as it cuts down on time and grit.
What do you mean "in the till"?
Basically in the dirt. Till is the sediment left from glacier retreat.
I've been to five islands a few times I must b going to wrong spot I find the water too dirty any suggestions I've been in area of lighthouse
The lighthouse is too far over. We go into the provincial park to the picnic beach and walk to the left. This time of year it's picked over pretty good. You can still find an agate or two though. Beginning of spring is the best time to go.
@@RockhoundingLife ty very much love yr vids over been learning so much this my frst official season of hounding so I've been going to lower cove most of the time theres a fair mix lots of chardonnay an I think I've found lots of quarts an some jasper a few plant fossils theres a couple I really love would love to share pics an get yr opinion I follow u on fb too
