- Amazing action of the Tamiya TT01e trucks racing shell to shell. This is some of the best carpet rc car racing action we encounter as the lead changed several times throughout the race.
This is a great fun entry level budget race class that has been taken over by some seasoned racers a a couple of our local clubs so it it time we got involved and brought a TT01e truck.
A quick unboxing and part build video ... this is just the beginning....

Mine was one of the cabs that came off while racing that day. Shoo glue saved the day for me
I will gli mine then
I'm thinking of doing RC truck racing after watching this channel today. First of all, I need to buy an RC racing truck from tamiya.😁😁😁
Awesome
Quite a few trucks at Stevenage are just out of box, or close to it. Would recommend getting some spare wheels as someone else has commented the truck rear wheels are very weak so 4 front wheels is a good shout!
Cool
We will look into it
Use mini wheels and stock wheels. Also allowable at Aylesbury
That was mine lol
The cab reinforcements on ebay work wonders and keeps the cab secure
Good to know
Will get its maiden voyage soon
Haha, another daft trucker🤣 Seriously though, the truck class at Stevenage is immense fun, it's my local club, always friendly and competitive. The truck class is a lot more flexible than Aylesbury by the sound of it. I've changed my centre drive shaft and drive cups to the alloy ones, much better, also fitted full bearings, front UJ's and different diff outdrives, as well as turnbuckles for the steering, and CVA shocks as they were the only ones I had spare. The truck runs really well, nothing else is really needed to be honest, and you could probably get away with a few less items than I did. Come along and join the fun! We're also running an all-day racing event this coming Saturday at Stevenage, loads of heats and finals, and probably some other stuff too👍👍
Looking forward to getting it on track
Yes
Another bloody MAN !! Where is the Merc love 😂 ! Be good to see you down at Stevenage shame you can’t make this weekend
Hope to join you soon
Hi great video once again mate 👍👌
Cheers Mogg
I just got myself a truck aswell. It's much more enjoyable to have close racing than to have someone who has the latest chassis on the track and to be getting 0.5 seconds a lap quicker than everyone else.
Defo with you there
But another set of rims the truck rears are weak and the centre hex snaps through so run 4 front wheels to be legal as crash proof. If M-chassis rims are allowed the truck tyres fit them too as an alternative.
Good to know
From your vid comments, I'm glad this isn't your 1st go @ R/C & you learned the lessons re: how expensive the hobby is. 10-20 years ago worldwide this used to be a $4 Billion+ hobby/sport. Now maybe 1/2 that & all the sponsorships dried up, On road vanished & Losi sold out & doesn't even make on road kits/cars anymore.
Do they sell a Gray squeeze tube called "Super Lube", previously "Super Moly Lube" in UK? Best all together no wear diff lube/hinge lube ever! $5 US & 1 tube lasts 10 years. It's on Ebay or Amazon I'm sure. NASA/Space Shuttle used it. Great piece of kit. Works in shocks in a pinch too.
Ta for the personal answers & yes I lived in your country for a year+ on/off & in Europe 3-4x pre-having children when younger. Been back many times to London/England + Wales. Never raced R/C in Europe sadly. Did try a local Scalelectrix track for fun. Not for me. Way too serious & not enough time then.
My prob w/continuing to do TT-01/02's is by the time you add bearings + mods you're almost @ the price of a stock competitive brushless car. TCS tried Truck class racing here but it never caught on & isn't 1 of the classes that can win you the trip to Japan to race in World's TCS. Although your truck class appears exactly like TCS rules. Tamiya everything including wheels/tires. TCS Nationals here are run in SD @ TCS America HQ on their outdoor asphalt track. Lovely sweeping track + great pit/picnic area.
imho NIMH or even Li-Ion suck v. Li-Poly. Just look @ the fast drain curve of each & charge capabilities. W/NIMH they're heavy, large, ineff8cient & often the final comes down to whomever has the freshest & best matched cell pack of Nimh. I still remember Trinity hand matched team packs going for $90-$110. + all Nimh cells/packs have a "memory" & go "stale or old". 1/2 my pre race time was charging & "pushing" Nimh packs pre-race w/my son. Post race' discharging them correctly & Cycling them correctly every week.
LiPoly came along & you can run 1 Li-Poly pack all day if you want especially 4 practice. & of course 4 planes/heli Li-Poly opened up the field vs Gas planes. I'm waiting 4 full size Li-Poly cars. Safer & Buckets cheaper battery tech + salt water extinguishes all Li-poly fires unlike Li-ion.
If you can't run oil shocks, 1 TCS TT-01 loophole. Find a dense sponge material, use a large holepuncher or trim thick rings of it & stack them in your shocks. Change them when they get a shaft hole thru them. I lightlygreased them up with super lube. No leaks & it passed regional TCS official tech for stock TT-01 class (no oil shocks or mods except bearings + Aluminum center shaft). TCS official had never seen anyone else do it but passed it pre & post race. Works wonders on damping your rebound. Just an idea. Also if you have to run stock Tamiya wheels + b0radials indoors or out. Always balance your rims, SOFT insets & sand the radials down & SGlue your sidewalls if alliwed. Less traction flip & sidewall collapse, Brushed motors I used the 30-60 sec in water rmotor run in to bed down the brushes @ low speed. Or cheater mode adjusting the tiling by sticking a screwdriver inside the can & twisting.
That newer non Tamiya kit you're building up isn't sold here btw. I'm thinking about going back to Corally 12th scale or 10th scale pan car as almost no on road except in SoCal, however that racing has dried up as well. Carpet buggy is the main trend here.
I'm jealous you get to race & make vids w/your best mate & have a young son coming into the hobby. Lucky.
Are you running Sanwa or Futaba systems? I'm not willing to drop a grand on the new FPK10 just getting back in, yet still want the fastest reaction/Tx to Rx latency time. Thoughts?
Glad to watch your channel grow! R/C takes a huge amount of preparation before even a club night. 90% of racers are the nicest & helpful people though.
Keep up the good work!
Happy Holidays.
Wow what a comment
So much to cover
Life would be easier with lipo for sure.
Like the idea of foam mod on shocks, will look into it.
We are very lucky with where we are located and have so many clubs to choose from … lots more planned for 2023 . And many new clubs too visit.
quiet a few of the trucks running at Stevenage are near to standard be good to see you there ,you will do fine
we have been running the carson esc all season not one problem ,
Awesome I’m looking forward to racing there very soon
I'm jealous, in my area of ontario canda, they tried to get the class going when they came out but it never stuck. It would have been a great cheap entry class
I think we will see this pick up even more next year … I’m looking forward to it.
Glad to see you’ve got yourself a truck they are great fun to race. Are you painting it box art? My trucks the same as yours but I bought it already painted box art.
Absolutely
Not
Think I’m gonna go Popalong colour scheme
Just getting into the truck racing in Qld Australia we can use 2s lipo but has to be a round pack, we can upgrade bearings an centre shaft aswell
check out our complete guide on truck set up and the tt01 indoor outdoor secrets is also a useful guide to get the most out of the trucks/tt01e chassis
Aren't you going to grease that gearbox and diff?
Yay, get to see some truck action! How on earth will you guys juggle the two classes, as the specs are quite different, unless you just go stock for both. I guess the nimh battery does keep it quite fair as speed as even lower, so the advantage of setup is a bit less. :D Oh yeah, the Carson Esc looks like a pretty much direct repackage of the HW 1060.
Close to stick and if things break I’ll make changes
It's a 60 amp and it is a hobbywing under a different name.
Cool should run just fine then …
@@PopalongRC yes and no. But most likely reliable.
Did you lads ever run at the tracks in Milton Keynes? Had dough boy above the commerical bakery and the outdoor track in Wolverton ( talking 10ish years back)
We did not but I’m sure there are guys at the club now that did
And the esc's waterproof.
Pretty sure they are rebranded Hobbywing 1060 ESC's, so 60amp not 70amp like it says 🤷. The US just gets the branded Hobbywing 1060's now. A great upgrade from the Tamiya ones though
Initial feedback is they are good
@@PopalongRC yeah the Hobbywing 1060 has been the go to budget brushed ESC for some years now. As a shop I used to sell bucket loads but most companies fit either the 1060 or the 1040 version as standard in a lot of the RTR's these days
Did it come with that anodized drive shaft?
No that is an upgrade as I will set it up like my iconic cars unless told otherwise.
No, the plastic one is stock.but before you go and buy a aluminum shaft check with your local track to see if islts a legal hop up.
Where is that
Indoor raceway Stevenage currently run trucks
Unfortunately Aylesbury are not running trucks at present
We will be running trucks at MKRCCC soon
They allow ball bearings I thought.
A must for all Tamiya kits
@@PopalongRC a must for all RCS.
But Tamiya don’t provide them as standard like many other brands
Not related but Question for you guys and anyone else who wants to chip in…. Running outdoors.. slicks and wets what’s some good 26mm tyres? Already using hpi radials and Tamiyas
It depends on what you are doing
@@PopalongRC please elaborate?
For racing with tucks we have to run stock tyres
For racing with TT01e chassis we use various tyres and the depends on surface
Carpet or asphalt tarmac tracks. Then within that we have various compound dependent on track temperature.
We use core a30 indoor sometime sweep 28 or rush 28. Also have run Valente outdoors. If just bashing you might be better looking at other option. I know Fastrax has a series of affordable tyre options for this platform .
@@PopalongRC outdoor running but not bashing… I race myself… no regs
Also 26mm is a must and not pre glued so I will have to search more
When running outside we have gone through the radial tyres and have used different compounds also.
Fastrax always used to have cheaper budget tyres but can’t really say.
If you go to your LHS you might be able to see and feel the tyres which is better than vague picture on internet.
