    I also love these race/sportice/group ride vloggie vids! Keep them coming! And maybe you could give them their own play list in your channel? That would make it so much easier to find more and revisit. :)

    The one-lap tactics was that failed you, that is what I think. Having participated in one 24h race (and won it with my team), I saw that in the short run, lets say the first 6 or so hours, the 1-lap tactics may be faster. But as the race progresses, longer pauses, possibility to get some sleep and the fact that you have to changes clothes 50% less times, all means higher motivation and eventually higher speed. It is much much easier to keep riding for 2 laps in a row (even in hellish conditions) than change your clothes, wait for 1,5 hours and then change and start going again. We were racing for a win against a team with 1-lap tactics and they were leading the race initially. Soon their lap times started to fade but our pace was relatively steady and eventually we won by 2 laps (about 40 minute per lap). For full disclosure - we raced in the summer in Estonia: it was raining and the night was pretty cold (but not freezing).

      Its worked every time for us lot and we have done loads of 24hrs and podiumed every one we have done, including this one. It's more on how you feel can cope and trg for it. Also the pit/recovery is a big factor in it all the better the set up the better the recovery.

      I've found the best balance between going out fresh and getting some sleep is to pair up.
      Early on do one lap each, ABCDABCD, then at night A and B do one on one off, ARAB while C and D get four laps of uninterrupted sleep, then C and D do CDCD while A and B sleep, then for the last few laps when it's light again go back to ABCD

    Back in the early 2000's I did a lot of sleepless in the saddle's and mountain mayhems with a bunch of mates. We were never competitive, usually finishing about 2/3 of the way down. But it was great fun. This vid really brought back the memories! Oddly the best result we ever got was when the weather was truly awful. We were so bloody minded we carried on when more sensible teams quit.

    Very cool video and competition! You guys should definitely do more of those. Riding in the cold and wet weather it's just fun for a little while! 24 hours is far too much, but it is all about the adventure! God bless

    Wow. Great Video! Finally the right conditions for "Epic". You MUST find a way...24 Hrs in Old Pueblo!. Tips for you: fenders, a dry panel tent...and a tent to change, better heater, oh...ride 2 laps each. That course is short enough to do that. Gives you more rest. Good luck next time!

    Great Adventure video! "If I had to do it over again..." - You wouldn't sign up, based on what you went through here (and I don't blame you). Mind you, there are colder venues, but that snow/rain/mud combo really demanded more commitment, kits and giant RV's....

    Me and my friend did in a pair, 3 laps on 3 laps off, and called it a day at around 11o'clock after the rain. Then woke up in the morning and decided to do 2 laps together not bad for a bunch of teenagers who race enduro, but mainly we both loved it 🤘

    The reasonable thing to do would be to equip the bikes with fenders. You would only get half as wet.

    4 kits, 2 laps and extra person that go and wash/ dry kits. And winter sleeping bag wearing warm cloths. Even tent will cut it then.

    • @coops8000
      @coops8000 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Its not as much the cold (as in Minus degrees) it's the low temp and wet climate that gets you, i have been all over world in winter and lived in the wild but find it always harder to keep warm in UK...even my Canadian family who come over at Xmass say it's really cold...and they have come from -10/20 temps. Hard to explain till you try it or know what its like sort of thing. We and just done the Puffer a month earlier and won, but that was -13 temp and felt warm compared to the KC event which was warmer but loads wetter all time.

      Support plays a bigger role than fitness over 24h, IMO. I am fat and slow, but I've done a couple solo 24h events. The things that bit me in the ass were:
      1. Not having enough bike clothing. Coming in sweat-drenched with sub 41F/5C weather meant a clothes change every lap in the wee hours. The first year I had no car, so I rode all the way home and back after each late night lap, (Only 8 miles round trip fortunately.) The second year, I had a car, cooler, nutrition, and more clothes which helped me change on site and get warm in between laps.
      2. Sub par nutrition/elimination. Even the gels and items that normally see me through 6-8 hours of riding eventually turned into gut bombs, and the venue had almost no bathroom facilities.
      3. Sub par fitness definitely played a role, but I was still able grind out laps. They took 2-3 times as long as the fit riders, so no riding buddy, and no drafting.

      Great thing about a 24hr, as long as you finish a lap you've got a result. Not a great result but still a result. 24hrs goes by and whatever you've got is what you've got. Doesn't really matter how long or when your breaks are.
