- From our 6th Season of Paramount's hit 80s TV series, "SOLID GOLD", enjoy an intimate moment with our host, DIONNE WARWICK and BURT BACHARACH performing their huge hit "ALFIE". No band...just the greatest singer and greatest songwriter making magic and bringing to life the wonderful lyrics of Hal David! I was the musical director and theme composer for SOLID GOLD (Michael Miller - “ Mickle“).

The world is truly fortunate that this song finally landed in front of Dionne Warwick and gave it the life it deserved.
All the music they did together was awesome!
Thank goodness that fate brought these two together. I was in my early teens when my older turned me on to this music, and other greats like, Stan Getz, Herb Alpert, and so many others. This was real music.
I would love it if all original Solid Gold episodes would be available remastered in HD. Would definitely pay a princely sum to have this series in my collection. Solid Gold brings back great memories of a wonderful time in music and in life. Thank you for sharing these performances. ❤❤❤
forget aretha and barbra, performances like this prove dionne really was the best singer in the business. her voice was like a violin that could insinuate itself so deeply into a melody.

That was a simply beautiful performance of the Burt Bacharach-Hal David-Dionne Warwick collaboration of "Alfie"!!! Their original version was nearly 20 years old at the time of this performance and had already been in classic territory for some time. It was musically scaled down, just a piano and Dionne Warwick and Burt Bacharach singing, but that was more than enough to put forth a dressed up version that sounded simply sublime and divine. It is a real musical treat for fans of all involved, including the "Solid Gold" show which showed a mostly younger studio and viewing office how that special sound and appearance of an elaborate collaboration was still able to be made.
How perfect it would’ve been if you were old enough at the time we did this show for you to be the publicist!

I will never know why Burt considers "Alfie" his best song.
I'm sure a majority of his fans/critics agree with him on this.
Probably because of what Hal David did with it, lyrically.
It is a sweet, simply tune; certainly not one of Bacharach's more complex compositions and arrangements.
For me it's the lyrics, the manner in which they fit so hand in glove for the storyline of the movie.
Without Hal David, Alfie would've been just another Sonny Rollins instrumental that never hit the Charts or moved the heart of the music lover.
