It's new bike day for Andrea! Come along as we go pick up her new 2021 Trek Verve 2 Disc Lowstep, take it on a first ride, and then review its features.
just bought a new TREK Verve 2 this was 3 weeks ago a red one ...I am 80 years old and have been riding bikes since I was 5 years old so I have been riding bicycles for 75 years now recently I was having trouble getting my leg over the bar on my Schwinn bike and my moving mount was scary ! so I stopped in to the TREK store in Mishawaka Indiana and went home with the new verve 2 low step I think all bicycles should be "Low Step". I was really surprised they had one there in stock no problem and red like I wanted I really like it I have about 50 miles on it so far riding about 5 miles a day 3 or more times a week I ride in the winter too if the roads are clear of ice and snow . Your youtube video encouraged me to try the Verve 2 low step rather than quitting BOB
Awww….that’s wonderful! What a heartwarming story! I’m so happy for you and wish you many more years of bike riding. Thanks so much for watching and for sharing your story.
OMG we had the exact same experience! My husband did the search and found me the exact same bike at a store just a little further away last week! I love it. Thank you for sharing the story.
It's a great bike. Bought one last week because it puts your body straight up and not leaning. My mountain bike was killing my lower back. Hybrid tires. It's very nice. 30 lbs. Congratulations on your new bike. It's awesome
Watching your video help with the research for a new bike. Also lucked out and found the purple lowstep Trek Verve 3. Today is new bike day for me. Thanks again for your videos.
I got the XL triangle frame Trek Verve 2 - I’m 6’5” - fits great and it’s a sweet ride. High quality everything, and very comfortable, makes me want to ride even more. I also considered the Specialized Crossroads, a similar hybrid in the same price range ($700)-but the Trek has the hydraulic discs and a cushier seat which won out.
Thank you so much! Great review, I’m buying this exact bike for my Mother for her bday. She’s done so much for me, it’s gonna feel so good for me to gift this that I almost feel guilty!
Congrats! I placed an order yesterday for two Trek Verve 2’s, a low step for my wife and a standard for myself. Very fortunate that one of our local dealers had the low step in a small frame for my wife and a standard in large for me in stock. We’re waiting on them to be shipped to the location that’s a few blocks from us, so we should have them next week. New bike day is always a great day. Fun video and thanks for sharing! Subscribed!
I also decided to get this bike. Haven't even seen it yet. Had to purchase it from another bike shop which is located an hour and a half drive from where I live. Bikes are in very short supply and those that do trickle into shops sell within hours. The only models left are anywhere from $1,700 and up. I'm 5' 11" and chose the large size. Hope I won't be disappointed. According to some other reviews, this is a very comfortable bike to ride and a light frame. Nice review, by the way.
I was checking all bike stores around me for a year. My local shop got a Verve 3 in. I asked when he will get more in.... 8 months! Bought it on the spot and love it. 11 miles a day for the last year.
I got my 2021 Trek Verve 2 today in Sarasota, FL! I really needed the low entry, being barely 5'3". I got the lithium gray.....the red was not available. I love it! Still keeping my other bike, but this is going to be great!
@@TroyandAndrea Your comments are making me feel a lot better about my purchase. I just bought this bike 2 days ago. I’m 5’4” and was really nervous about the size after I got home. It’s a great bike and watching your video convinced me it was the bike I wanted. Now your comment about your height has made me feel more comfortable about the size as well. Thanks for sharing.
Great review and great bike. I currently have the male version of the Trek Verve 2 2021 same color and is a phenomenal ride. I own other Trek models such as the Marlin 6 and is a great mountain bike. The Verve 2 2021 is a awesome Hybrid bike that keeps you upright and provides a smooth comfort ride for distance or around the town.
@@gosman949 I agree, frame style should be gender-independent! I like a lowstep because I have back issues that make it difficult to use a crossbar bike.
Your story is similar to ours. Once we decided on the Verve 2 (didn't think we needed to spend the extra money for the 3), we had to call around to quite a few bike shops hoping they had one. Turns out we bought one each from two different shops, and when a shop responded that they had one, we bought it over the phone. We're enjoying the heck out them so far. Longest ride has been 20 miles, and right now we're only limited by the fitness of the rider. I think 30 mile rides are well within reach. I had to buy some mountain bike shorts because I needed some extra padding; otherwise the geometry is very comfortable. I would buy these again.
Thanks for sharing your story and congratulations on your new bikes! We both wear gel shorts and that has helped add some extra time on the seat. Enjoy your ride and thanks for watching!
I wish I had said something about the gears on the handel bars, twist it push/pull. What really made me happy is I like Trek bikes and I'm VERY happy they now have a step thru.
I just received this bike last Sunday in the red bike. It was a replacement for my huffy mountain bike from Walmart. When it comes to the difference between the bikes. This one has better gears and better brakes by the way. When it comes to the huffy bikes, apparently they are a Chinese made bike that is hard to find parts for.
I got my wife the Verve 3 in April. It's purple. I think we were lucky; my local Trek dealer had one in stock. It works very well for her. I will likely do a few upgrades on the bike. Eventually, it will be a 1x. My wife also wanted tubeless tires; so she has some 700x40 WTB Byways now. The tan walls look nice on that bike.
Thank you. I really appreciated your review and information. I’m a bike newbie and just did a test ride of the verve 2. Highly debating over lunch whether or not to get it. I think you helped me choose to go for it 😊
Been waiting on our Verve 2 disc since ordering them in August, was told December then after Christmas talk to the shop and Trek today now pushed out to March 😳. In case anyone is wondering why such a bike shortage, on top of COVID Shimanos factory had a huge fire almost burning completely down. So on top of the pandemic bike components took a huge hit.
Heartbreaking and aggravating! Didn’t know that about Shimano! That’s terrible. My local bike shop says that even tubes are getting harder to find. Be glad when all this is over.
Thank you for sharing. I also just bought a new bike and I was just wondering. Is it correct to replace the seat because it’s not comfortable or you just have to get adjusted to it . Thank you from San Antonio Texas
Good question! If you’re unable to get adjusted to it, definitely consider replacing it and talk to someone at the bike shop about getting properly fitted. An uncomfortable ride is not fun! On my old bike, I took the recommendation of our local shop and tried gel shorts. It worked! Hope this helps.
I currently have the XL frame because of my height. The Verve 2 2021 model Male version that I have isn't low step in design. It is straight. I suggest visiting a Trek retailer before a final decision.
Thanks for your brief review. My wife and I are currently looking at a bike for her and the Verve 2 is one that seems to "tick" all the boxes for her. Even with the more upright position, do you feel the seating position offers you the ability to ride up a hill or incline with sufficient power? Her current "comfort" bike while great for beach cruising nearly "kills" her on even slight inclines.
Yes, it does. Even though it’s a more upright position, you’re not forced into that position like you are with a beach cruiser style bike. I can definitely lean forward for more power. If you check out our Russell Crossroads video, I used that bike on steep gravel trails. It did amazingly well! Hope this helps. Thanks for watching.
When it comes to hills. This is a great bike over getting a cheap bike at Walmart for example. When it comes to Walmart bikes. Avoid them , I was told by my local bike shop that they never work on them due to how hard it is to get a part for . Apparently it's Those bikes are made in batches by the way.
Did you verify you received all the spec components? I have heard that Trek has been substituting with “off brands” on the brakes, saddle, pedals and tires. Better check!
Just like you after research on the web I decided that I wanted a Trek Verve 2 step through! But it had to be in Large, as I am six feet tall. And Israel women are small! So last week I take a bus to the Trek importer here in Tel Aviv to ask about maybe they could order me one from the US? The had one in the box!! One hour later I ride home with my new bike! I love it!😘
Are you still enjoying your Verve 2 Disc Lowstep? I am looking at the Verve 2 or the Cyprus 2 that you also reviewed. Going to test ride both in the next week. Both look like solid comfortable bikes.
Absolutely! We test a lot of bikes and, so far, every time I still say I’d choose my Trek! It really is an awesome bike. It even makes me happy just to look at it.
Well, I test rode both the Verve 2 and the Cyprus 2. The Verve 2 just fit me better and shifted like butter, so smooth. I have had it about 2 weeks now and have put about 50 miles on it. I'm really happy with my Trek Verve 2.
Verve 2 is better than Verve 1 which has problems with the SunRace cassette. Verve 2 has Shimano but cost several hundreds more. I've heard the tubeless Bontrager tires are very prone to punctures. For city commuting, when stopping at a light, one needs to get off the saddle and put both feet on ground - saddle stays much higher and one cannot just tilt the bike with one foot on the ground. I'll say that lowstep is actually just as good for men too, especially when we get older, I don't see a reason why men won't prefer a lowstep bicycle
Hi! Mine is a 3x7 speed. The kick stand was extra, but worth it! I love the color. I’m still very happy with it after many miles on it now. Thanks for watching!
Hi! A hitch mount is the best and easiest car rack because of the step-thru frame. But, you can also use a “Top Tube Adapter” so you can carry it with any hanging style car rack. Thanks for watching!

I looked for a name and I couldn’t find anything. Sorry! I actually don’t know why it’s on the left. They put it on for me at the bike shop and never asked which side. I’m fine with it there, even though I am right handed. Enjoy your new bike!
@@TroyandAndrea We went to the trek store yesterday and they didn't have size small, but she fit great on an extra small size despite being 5-4. We're not avid riders so she doesn't feel comfortable when a bike is slightly big and so we bought her a step 3 verve 3 xs. Those bikes ARE big that I'm 5-10 and I ride a step through medium verve 3 and could probably feel OK in a size small k though it wouldn't be right). I like you videos. Keep on biking.
Thank you, Laura! I am using platform pedals with no cleats and wearing a river shoe. They’re very comfortable and with the openness of them, dry very quickly if they get wet, as well as keep me cooler on a hot day. Thanks for watching!
@@TroyandAndrea Thanks for the info! I have been using clips for years - but thinking I could get by without them, especially since I'm doing shorter distances than I used to do. I love your "new" bike -- I hope you still love it! Might be an option for me!

I recommend this for anyone and I’ve met people of all ages on the trails with this bike. Maybe get it without the step through if you feel it looks like a seniors bike. I got the step through because I’m short, but I’ll admit, that’s an added benefit for when I actually do become a senior. 😉 Even with the step through, I get comments all the time on how cool this bike looks. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!
I didn’t know about the FX, but I’ll go check one out for fun. Yes, the Verve can definitely handle long rides. I know I’ve seen other TH-camrs doing Ragbrai, and I think even longer rides.
We use a rear, hitch mounted rack, with wheel trays to transport it. The upright support on the rack has a padded hook that slides downward and over the downtube on the bike, and the water bottle cage holds it in place. Thanks for watching!
Sorry for the late reply. We got the same bike as yours for my daughter. Same size same color. She really loves it. Thank you again. Good luck to both of you.
It handles pretty well! Check out our “Biking Russell Crossroads” video. These were hilly gravel trails and the bike handled them just fine… the rider, maybe not so much. 😂 Troy was actually very surprised the bike performed as well as it did. Thanks for watching!
Because of the 700c wheels, it’s faster than my old bike and Troy doesn’t have to hold back for me to keep up. However, because I’m sitting upright, I don’t feel like it was built for speed. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!

Yes, I absolutely love it still!
What bike car mount is used for this bike because of the frame?
Hi! A hitch mount is the best and easiest car rack because of the step-thru frame. But, you can also use a “Top Tube Adapter” so you can carry it with any hanging style car rack. Thanks for watching!
Hope you're still enjoying your new bike
Thank you! We’ve actually had a lot of rain that’s kept me from riding much lately, but we look forward to better weather soon.
Would you recommend this bike for a 30 something female or is it a seniors bike?
I recommend this for anyone and I’ve met people of all ages on the trails with this bike. Maybe get it without the step through if you feel it looks like a seniors bike. I got the step through because I’m short, but I’ll admit, that’s an added benefit for when I actually do become a senior. 😉 Even with the step through, I get comments all the time on how cool this bike looks. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!
Andrea, did you ever consider the FX? Are you able to do long rides with the verve?
I didn’t know about the FX, but I’ll go check one out for fun. Yes, the Verve can definitely handle long rides. I know I’ve seen other TH-camrs doing Ragbrai, and I think even longer rides.
Great video. I just bought one today myself.
That’s awesome! Enjoy the ride and thanks for watching!
I am 5' do you think is is good for me? I have short legs
I would recommend going to a Trek store and test riding one first. That way you would know for sure if it fits before purchasing one. 😊
Very nice video. Tell me how you transport the low-step bike with your car.
We use a rear, hitch mounted rack, with wheel trays to transport it. The upright support on the rack has a padded hook that slides downward and over the downtube on the bike, and the water bottle cage holds it in place. Thanks for watching!
They also make a bar that goes from the seat to the steering stem for hanger type carriers. Any bike store can help u, or an easy web search. 👍🏻
Excellent cup!
Thanks! 😊 And thanks for watching!
Hello. What size of Verve 2 that you got? I’m planning to buy one for my daughter. Thank you in advance. Ride safe.
Thank you! It’s a small.
Sorry for the late reply. We got the same bike as yours for my daughter. Same size same color. She really loves it. Thank you again. Good luck to both of you.
how is the bike a hilly terrain?
It handles pretty well! Check out our “Biking Russell Crossroads” video. These were hilly gravel trails and the bike handled them just fine… the rider, maybe not so much. 😂 Troy was actually very surprised the bike performed as well as it did. Thanks for watching!
What size did you get
Hi! Believe it or not, it’s a size small! 😊
@@TroyandAndrea thanks. I got my daughter a small too but she is 5’8” as they were out of mediums. It fits her just a tad to small but still great.
@@theone4042 she needed a medium.
@@theone4042 I have a verve 2 2022 on large if you are interested in a trade? (depending location)
Is it a fast bike?
Because of the 700c wheels, it’s faster than my old bike and Troy doesn’t have to hold back for me to keep up. However, because I’m sitting upright, I don’t feel like it was built for speed. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!
where were y'all riding @3:14
Hi Melvin! That’s at the Navarre Beach bike path near Pensacola, FL.
@@TroyandAndrea thanks, i live in fort walton so I'll go check it out
Enjoy!
