    I planted a Mammoth sunflower 🌻 last year and sowed the seeds. Now I have 30 sunflowers growing in my back yard.

    I love the idea of the black oil sunflowers that you can dry and leave out for the birds. But I may have to go with the smaller Teddy bear for my window boxes. Thanks for this great overview 🌻

      I'm so glad this video was a good overview! The Teddy bear ones are so cute. I really must look into starting some window box gardening....it looks so dreamy 🥰

    People should look into planting native sunflowers or other native plants to help the native insect population. Native sunflowers are fuzzy and they are mostly perennial.

      The mammotha create a mini ecosystem with the birds bees and other bugs and grow back on it's own every year

    Does anybody know the name of sunflower that has orange petals with purple stems? I usually see them in bouquets in early fall.

    So... if i cut the pro cut series does it still produce more flowers? Ive got the plum one and not sure how to treat it...

    • @HomefortheHarvest
      @HomefortheHarvest  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, the pro-cut grow one flower on one stem. Once its cut, it doesn't tend to grow more (although I suppose anythings possible!). But yes, each seed becomes one single stem with one single flower

      @@HomefortheHarvest oh ok... im not used to that seed to flower conversion lol... guess 6-8 plants wont be enough then. Thanks!

    • @achnix3167

      @@HomefortheHarvest so basically i cut it and rip the rest out afterwards?

    • @HomefortheHarvest
      @HomefortheHarvest  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@achnix3167 Yeah, they're often grown very close to each other and also succession planted every couple weeks to stretch out the flower harvest. The stems are thinner and easier to pull out than some of the bigger heirloom types. There are some branching types of sunflower that look similar to the plum and grow one or two dozen flowers (Strawberry Blonde, Florenza, Autumn Beauty)

      I'd buy them locally if possible to get seeds that have been grown in your climate 🤷‍♀️ Here's our local suppliers (many ship outside Canada too though) www.homefortheharvest.com/canadian-seed-companies/
