I wish the guitar solo would last forever. A true masterpiece of rock history with probably the best guitarist in the world. David Gilmour is a true legend!
Love them backing singers...always the under rated role...and of courde David Gilmour .... Its hard to imagine the Floyd without Waters...but here is one track that reminds me that it may wrll be possible!!! Rock on!!!
Incredible is not enough to describe DG. He can make any guitar sing…..and he is one of the greatest of all time. I love to hear Jeff Beck, Prince, Dawayne Bailey, but DG surpasses these greats in all aspects. I listen to Pink Floyd as much as I can, especially after I’ve had a bad day with my wife who sadly has vascular dementia. Bless her, and bless DG.
This song always reminds me of my father who passed away on my 11th bday in 2000. He adored this band soooo much & I've never looked back. Pink Floyd's music always gets me. 😩😭❤️
Taken from the Division Bell rehearsal Earls Court London 1994 Great Day for Freedom / Lost for Words Personnel The Division Bell David Gilmour - guitar, vocals Richard Wright - piano, synthesizer Nick Mason - drums, tambourine with: Jon Carin - Prophet V synthesizer Guy Pratt - bass guitar Michael Kamen - orchestral arrangement The Division Bell Tour, 1994 David Gilmour - electric guitar, lead vocals Richard Wright - piano Nick Mason - drums with: Guy Pratt - bass Jon Carin - keyboards, vocals Gary Wallis - percussion Tim Renwick - acoustic guitar Sam Brown - backing vocals Claudia Fontaine - backing vocals Durga McBroom - backing vocal The song, originally titled "In Shades of Grey", addresses the great hopes following the fall of the Berlin Wall and the disappointment that followed. David David Gilmour stated: There was a wonderful moment of optimism when the Wall came down - the release of Eastern Europe from the non-democratic side of the socialist system. But what they have now doesn't seem to be much better. Again, I'm fairly pessimistic about it all. I sort of wish and live in hope, but I tend to think that history moves at a much slower pace than we think it does. I feel that real change takes a long, long time Despite Gilmour's statements to the contrary, the lyrics have often been read as a reflection on the bitter and estranged partnership Gilmour had with former bandmate Roger Waters, who was the driving force behind the band's album The Wall. By this interpretation, the "Great Day for Freedom" would be the day Waters left the band, giving the other members freedom to determine the band's future direction. Gilmour commented on this reading: "I'm quite happy for people to interpret The Division Bell any way they like. But maybe a note of caution should be sounded because you can read too much into it. 'A Great Day for Freedom', for example, has got nothing to do with Roger or his 'wall'. It just doesn't. What else can I say?" Live The song was performed by the band on selected dates of The Division Bell tour, and is available on the Pulse (1995) live album, but was omitted from the Pulse VHS and DVD. Gilmour performed it at his solo semi-acoustic concerts in 2002 which can be seen on the David Gilmour in Concert (2002) DVD. The song also made just one appearance during Gilmour's 2006 On an Island Tour, at the final show in Gdańsk, Poland; this performance can be found on the live album/DVD Live in Gdańsk (2008). Sorry, Lost for words Enjoy, even if you miss Roger

Must agree with you there, there is no other Guitarist that can extract so much feeling and emotion out of a Guitar and make it sing like Gilmour does, gives me goosebumps
And when I heard Lost For Words on the later years I fell in love with that version. Something about how he changed the opening solo, instead of gaps in the music like the album version, he plays right through. 😍
It's great to see someone else appreciate that solo as much as i did. That one was really special, the black strat was literally weeping. The crescendo in volume adding tension and switching from the neck pickup to the bridge pickup near the end, and that triple bend... I just wish i was there in front of the stage that night... 😊
Makes me wish I had taken the opportunity in my younger years to go to one of their concerts. Definitely regret it! Glad we can still enjoy their music.
Likewise. I was in London with dad when I was quite young but remember driving past Earls Court and seeing Pink Floyd in Concert written above the entrance, only to be a big fan 10 or so years later. One regret never seen them in concert also, but was the closest I got - to the front door 😂😎

Thank you a lot sir for the upload of the live performance of this great song. It is the first time I can see this performance. Amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Actually, there are two songs: Great Day For Freedom and Lost For Words. They are taken from the rehearsal before the gig. Wow, yeah, the best.
I'll never forget this tour. Was there in Oakland Coliseum, California. Last chance to see the incomparable Richard Wright, and a deeply emotional night for me.
Everyone was in top form at the Pulse concert. And the Division Bell album is the masterpiece, comparable to the DSOTM album. I wish they had performed the whole TDB album in full in the concert. Maroon, Poles Apart, and the Lost For Words were overlooked.
Marooned is an absolute masterpiece, it won a Grammy in 1994 for best rock instrumental performance. Poles Apart and Lost for Words are such great songs as well. TDB is in my opinion the best Pink Floyd album.
You know Dave loved jamming on the acoustic way better then on the strat. Love the electric but the fundamentals begin with the classic six string. Cheers to all you Floyd people. It doesn’t get any better. God bless!!!!🍻
Essa música toca na minha alma e acalma meu coração isso sim é música de verdade feita e tocada por um grande gênio chega a ser algo sobrenatural a essência q está linda canção trás!
35 years Pink Floyd fan, the best of the best. David Gilmour’s lead guitar makes a lot of sense with deep meaning. As it blends with the band, the songs can carry you away comfortably numb with a great day for freedom
The most flawless, beautiful performance of all time, and it’s a rehersal. David’s vocals are so powerful and the solo is gorgeous as always. This is easily a top 3 Floyd song for me.
I wish they remove the "Like" button on this video and replace it with "I LOVE IT" because like is a very small word for this amazing song, artists and solo from Gilmour.
I love the moment after the line "there'll be no safety in numbers, when the right one walks out of the door", as DG turns to look at Rick Wright - the camera also settles on Rick. This line references Rick's departure from the band during the recording of The Wall, which left Gilmour much more alone in facing down Roger Waters.

🧢🙌🫡🥲 David Gilmour is just soulful
Yo, for what it's worth, that's very well stated.
I wish I could go back in time, to this date and be there just to see rehearsal and hear Gilmour’s soulful music
The best band of all time, with the best guitarist along with the best back vocal.
And the most atmospheric drummer. Do not forget Nick. His punctuation and pulse makes the full band , in my ears.

This sounds even better than had it been done in a recording studio. It’s that live sound without the audience noise in the background.

One and only David gilmour the best guitar player in my opinion. Thank you for your music 🎶 Pink Floyd

100% my opinion too the guy is a musical genius and his vocals are underrated, I especially think the pulse concert he was at his peak.
It’s a beauty. The entire album. What he did with the Freedom solo in Gdańsk was pure magic.

AGDFF at Gdansk is one of his finest ever solos.
Only Gilmour can improve his own work. Talking about the Gdansk solo at the end.
I was just thinking of that, he was on fire and knew it, that is a must-see, I've only seen it in that Gdansk documentary
Was at this concert in Winnipeg 1994. Changed my life for the better. Inspiring!
I was at the same of in Toronto and the one before that in /87 at the C.N.E. stadium both incredible and basically the greatest shows I;ve ever seen.
i saw the same concert in Chantilly Castle near Paris and of july 1994 🥰
Me in Montreal's Olympic Stadium, same place where Roger have had enough of it to write ''The Wall''.

Simplemente el mejor lo adoro David Gilmour 😘😘😘😘😘😘😘
On the day the wall came down
They threw the locks onto the ground
And with glasses high we raised a cry
For freedom had arrived
On the day the wall came down
The Ship of Fools had finally run aground
Promises lit up the night like paper doves in flight
I dreamed you had left my side
No warmth not even pride remained
And even though you needed me
It was clear that I could not do a thing for you
Now life devalues day by day
As friends and neighbours turn away
And there's a change that, even with regret
Cannot be undone
Now frontiers shift like desert sands
While nations wash their bloodied hands
Of loyalty, of history, in shades of gray
I woke to the sound of drums
The music played, the morning sun streamed in
I turned and I looked at you
And all but the bitted residue slipped away
Slipped away
Aren’t those two of the sincerest smiles you’ve ever seen.
Spero di poterli ascoltare anche quando sarò nell'aldilà. Pink Floyd I Love You ❤️❤️
