  • What happened to the Yarnspirations O'Gos? You will see behind-the-scenes photos and more. Mikey was shown this product 4 months before the public knew about it. I had practiced with the yarn and came to love it by the time the people saw it. It took time to adjust.

    I didn't mind the O'Go format, but it was initially more expensive for the same amount of yarn in the ball form. The innovation wasn't worth the price increase for me. Now that it is on sale, I bought a bunch of it

    • @strngenchantedgirl
      @strngenchantedgirl ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Exactly. It was the price. The colors were usually fantastic but unless it was on super sale it was too expensive.

    The issue I had with O’Go was totally the cost. It was 11.99 whereas the Super Saver was 4.99. I got so much of it when it went on clearance though. I truly did enjoy the format but I couldn’t justify the 7 dollar price difference.

  • @cynthiacazares4807
    @cynthiacazares4807 ปีที่แล้ว +34

    Mikey, I never tried because of the cost. I was not paying almost $10 for less than 300 yards of yarn. I like the idea but apparently manufacturing cost made the price too expensive for some of us. I really think that is what cause the failure of this product. I shop sales. I am retired and I have to be careful what I spend on 228 yards of yarn.

    I loved the ease of color separation in the O'Gos and they actually did feed easily with no snarls. It is sad that they're gone, but clearance sales are the very best friend of my stash. RIP O'Go.

    When I saw the packaging I didn’t think I would like it because it looked like it was going to be difficult to unravel and work with. I didn’t buy it but I also didn’t complain about it, I just bought other yarn! It’s sad how many have to complain, just don’t buy it and let the people who like it enjoy!

  • @sylviadonnell1329
    @sylviadonnell1329 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I kind of liked the format, but your example of the RHSS is exactly the reason I wouldn't buy O'Go vs skein. Your comment was that it looked like less yarn. However, I understood it was the exact same amount of yarn. The problem was the O'Go format was significantly more expensive just to get the round format. So I understand the innovation, but the innovative format was not such a great improvement on existing format that it was in any way worth the price differential.

    • @louloubaru
      @louloubaru ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I completely agree. I considered buying the red heart version, but the difference in price was not worth it to me, especially when rhss typically has an easy to find center pull. I also didn't love the idea of the plastic bit used to keep it in its shape.

    I stocked up on the O'go Red Heart Super Saver in "Baby Rainbow" when it went on clearance. I thought the packaging was weird but I really liked the 4 weight yarn colors themselves. it was fun being able to color control so easily. I hope the O'Go colors come back.

    I normally avoid buying yarn at full price regardless of the format it comes in. These had fun colors that weren’t available in standard forms and I liked the no tangle format we were offered. It did solve the tangle issue but it seemed like people just wanted to complain

  • @anndennis7163
    @anndennis7163 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    I think some retailers contributed to the problem, the color combos in O go's in my local walmart were unpleasant to me. I got one from Amazon and liked that one better. But I agree that it seemed more expensive.

  • @kristacummings4743
    @kristacummings4743 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I didn’t mind the format or the product, it was the colors ( or limit/blocks of colors) that made the difference in whether I purchased it or not.

  • @MC-kj8uy

    I think the packaging may have been only part of the problem. A little piece of your video shows this yarn on the shelf, and the price tag says its $13.99. Maybe that's what turned people off. I can say, as someone who used to work in a store that sold craft supplies - whatever the reason, if the store didn't sell enough of it to justify the space it would have been discontinued.

    • @TheCrochetCrowd
      @TheCrochetCrowd  ปีที่แล้ว

      That was Canadian Dollars. I think Bernat Blanket is now $15.99 CDN per ball. Costs of manufacturing and transportation is really high these days.

    I completely agree with everything you said. I thought BRAVO Yarnspirations for listening to their customers and really trying to do something about it. But of course we've been spoiled. Can't stand anything new, can't stand everything the same. Really sounds like people want to be angry or unhappy about everything regardless. I'm sorry they stopped making them, I'm sure alot of people worked very hard to make it usable for all concerned. One point though, I thought the stores themselves did very little to make it work. Both Joann's and Michaels treated the packages horribly and many ended up becoming torn and yarn frayed. Just unfortunate.

  • @wendylcm7643

    What burns me over the O'Gos were the people that didn't even give it a chance before being upset about them. To see those comments repeated over and over, from people that just blindly follow without attempting to form their own opinions.
    I will miss them. I enjoyed working with them. I really loved being able to separate out the colors to make color play easier. I don't enjoy prep work before stitching, so not having to ball up a skein to doctor them was nice.
    I hope Big Donut, Colorama, and especially Colorama Halo come back in regular skein forms, those yarns were lovely to work with.

    I loved how you could mix and match the multicolored donut. Because you could cut the colors in separate balls. I loved the concept and in the beginning I thought it was pricey but when compared the yardage it wasn't bad. But at least some nieces and nephews got the lovely owl, my fav thing to make from them and I don't make a lot of stuffed anything haha. Sad to see it go-go.

    I am using O’go for the first time. It’s nice that it has no tangles, but I don’t care for having to stop every few feet to unwind it. It has to lay on its side, and the yarn doesn’t come off by itself the way it does from a cake, so I have to put down my work and unwind it. Not very conducive to uninterrupted crocheting.

    I was neutral about the O Go style. I did find the packaging overdone and harder to store... maximum amount in a tote, for example. My solution was to remove packaging and flatten the cardboard to store with the yarn. Easy enough. Otherwise, it was very easy to use, no tangles as advertised. Appreciate your explanation of why packaging is done the way it is... a bigger deal than I'd thought.

    I didn't buy the OGo due to price when it came out. It was so much cheaper to purchase it in skeins. I fell in love with the Christmas color. Bought enough for a project, however, I had a significant amount of yarn that had bleed-over with the colors. Also, white was pink in most of the skeins. Of course I had waited to long to return it.😢. I'm happy that you and others were happy with it, though.

    I’m a little bummed out about the O’Go’s becoming a No’Go now too. At first I thought they looked kind of strange, the concept and shape of the yarn but once I started watching your videos about how it can be useful in different patterns I understood. I noticed a little while ago how it was also on clearance and wasn’t sure why but snatched up some yarn online for a heart pillow and a shawl pattern that looked so pretty. It’s a shame how people leaving bad reviews for a product they don’t fully understand can get it off the shelves. Hopefully it comes back. Thank you for leaving this review Mikey!

    I didn’t mind the O’Go. I understood that RHSS was the same yardage as in the skein.
    It was more expensive… but that was not my first concern.
    The marketing idea to include several colors in ibe O’Go is what caused me not to buy. If the manufacturer had started off with solid colors and ombre… it might have been a different outcome.

    Thanks so much for this insight and information. Really appreciate your knowledge and view on this topic. I never bashed it but like many others who have commented it was price point for me. I understand especially since your review here that additional machines/time/effort may be the reason. With current prices I wonder if it got too expensive to produce w the market acceptance?? Kinda priced itself out of the market maybe?

    I love loved the o go yarn format it was awesome I actually only bought it instead of the balls of yarn. The colours were awesome. I did not realize they were not going to make it anymore so I am glad I bought some extra.

    Oh MAN - say it isn't so! I just bought a whole bunch of O'Go while it was on sale; not realizing that it was a clearance and going away sale. There are several 'favorite' yarns I've "lost" from production over the past couple of years. I suppose the yarn industry must continue to morph rapidly to keep the interest/profits. Thanks for the heads up and also the valid points Michael! You need to tell Wendy that you were being very logical today! 😉

    I love this format. I grabbed a bunch of it when it was on clearance. I thought it was very innovative. I wish I had bought more, but I "need" more yarn like I need a hole in my head. Haha. 🤪

    I love the ogo in halo. It was gorgeous the ombré effect was incredible. It's now in cake. I liked it.

    They're should be something for everyone. It's unfortunate the loudest often get their way. I never tried it myself. Interesting take on this.

    I didn’t want to like the O’Go, but the yarn was great for the projects introduced with it and other uses as well.
    I agree that reading labels helps immensely when comparing products.
    Look, I’m just glad that enjoyable yarns come in balls or cakes or big donuts and I don’t have to wind them like we do with hanks and skeins of less mass produced yarns. 😅
    Social media has created an enormous complaint department of the extremely listless that didn’t exist when a letter or phone call was required. That’s my impression, anyway.
    I would imagine the complaining can be overwhelming at times. I’ve read quite a few and wonder often that if you can’t weave in ends, go nuts when there’s a knot in a skein, don’t like reading a pattern, can’t stand a certain color but can’t be excited to try something new; why are you crocheting or knitting?

    I was excited to find Oggo chenille bulky yarn in WalMart, bought a skein in the teals colourway and made a round little crocheted blanket. :). I took another look online for inspo of projects to try and mostly found interesting projects that took like a hundred bucks worth of Ogoo. I'm glad I got to try it, I'm a big fan of innovation and ease of use!

    When buying a skein of variegated yarn you can’t tell if two skeins are identical to have two similar sleeves because there may be knots that can ruin all the colour repeats. An o’go format is honest what you see is what you get!

    It seemed expensive to me especially when I can use up my scraps instead. But I did finally buy some on sale to make your tapestry bag and it worked great. I can see where the O Gos can be convenient.
