    Something to note for future reference: Vitamin Oil is not a preservative. It will not prevent mold, yeast and other bacteria. It is an antioxidant, which means it will prevent the oils for going rancid and it is added after whipping (cool down phase) along with the essential oils because they are heat sensitive.

    • @gamegang6275
      @gamegang6275 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks your comment was very helpful. What would you recommend to prevent those things?

    • @allieharmon3926
      @allieharmon3926 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@gamegang6275 u only need to worry about mold, yeast and what not if u use water in your solution (but if u do look up natural preservatives, i use germall plus). If ur body butter is completely oils then all u need is Vitamin E.

    Shea butter isn't a little bit thicker than coconut oil, it's A LOT thicker. The reason yours is so soft, and white is because it is refined. Unrefined Shea butter (usually ivory or yellow in color) is very hard and usually needs to melted over a double boiler then refrigerated before it can be whipped up.

      I use unrefined and just mash it with a fork and add in the other oils before I whip it. It still gets fluffy just takes longer.

      I found some 100% pure unrefined shea butter at tj max and it is in fact yellow in color. I'm melting the shea butter with a double boiler method right now. Im putting into a Mason jar (disinfected) since the plastic tub they came in would warm with the heat.

    Just made this with my granddaughter. We double the batch so she could take some home. It turned out great so we are making one more batch. The fist batch we scented with Rose Oil. The second I’m doubling as well then dividing and doing half with lavender and the other half with the Panaway essential oil from Young Living that I use for pain in my legs. It can be my carrier oil and give me all the benefit of the moisturizers. Love it.

    Thank you so much for this tutorial. I made some for my expecting sister and a girlfriend. Their bellies looked great during their pregnancies and after. They want me to make more and so do their Moms :-) Everyone in my family with dry skin and eczema are excited to use this. I am now looking for a version with out nut oils since my new born niece who has eczema and is allergic to all nuts. The version I make for her will be truly special.

      I would never use essential oils for a baby with eczema. Unlike what she said in the video, essential oils are not calming for the skin, essential oils of any kind can be highly allergenic. Ask any dermatologist, they are the most common cause of new allergies. No dyes, inks, perfumes or such.

    Vitamin E is a thick and viscous oil that is super easy to mix into lotions, liquid oils, and even bath bombs for its skin-loving properties. It is a wonderful anti-oxidant, but it isn’t considered a preservative because it has noantimicrobial properties to it. Many home crafters use it thinking it will preserve their products, but all it can do is extend the life of the oils in your product (similarly to ROE and GSE).

    Just FYI... I make my own body butter ALWAYS. I do not let it get as firm as you do. I set it in the refrigerator JUST UNTIL it gets a nice ring around the outside and the inaide is cool, but not hard. I use my Kitchen Aide to whip it! It is the most velvety, fluffy butter ever! I put it in small Kerr jars and place all but one in the refrigerator. I keep one in my bathroom and I've never had a problem with it melting, even with hot showering. Just be sure to NEVER get water in it. When my jar is empty, I take out another one from the fridge.

    I have NEVER whipped something so long in my life and it's not close to whipped..I put it back in the freezer a couple of times because it was getting hot from all the whipping. I could have made 4 DIY baby blankets in this time. I followed the recipe to a tee!
    I will try another recipe.

    The butter seems to be really awesome. But needed one clarification, regarding the quantity of almond oil used. As you first showed the measuring cup (red one) which is 1/2 cup and while adding the almond oil you mentioned 2 tsp (you added the quantity twice of the 1/2 cup) So which is to be considered. Please clarify

    I love this one. I made it twice already but I also add pure cocoa butter (hard texture melted with the shea butter and coconut oil) and it smells delicious! I am confused a bit by this recipe because there was mentioning measurement cup of 1/2 cup but I didn't see it used for anything. Am I missing something? What was the 1/2 cup for? It was 1/4 coconut oil and 1/4 shea butter so what's the half cup for? Anyone?

    Thank you for such a great tutorial. I did try a couple of these, using other recipes I found online. I didn't whip it for as long as you did; none of the instructions said to do so. As soon as I saw the first signs of it being creamy, I stored it into containers. I live in Germany. All of my body butters have solidified. I feel really sad for having wasted my ingredients. I did also use some beeswax, perhaps that or the lack of whipping could be the cause. Would this happen to the body butter you made? or would it always remain in a whipped, airy state?

    Great video! Could you tell me the purpose of freezing it then whipping it as opposed to just whipping it from the beginning? I'm interested because I made some and didn't do that step and mine is too watery and I thought it was because I put too much almond oil.

    • @EtherealVibe

      I think when you don't freeze it and go straight in w/ whipping it then it takes longer to do so and may not come out right. Freezing it gives it it's texture I'd say & makes it easier to be formed into what she made. Hope this helps!

      +Camilion1205 It actually doesn't work to just whip it right away. It has to be in a semi solid state. Having said that, I have just taken it straight out and whipped it without melting it and it's worked great. You mix all the oils/butters together anyway when you are whipping. :)

    I just found and watched your video. I have just begun to make body butters and found that for some reason mine are way too greasy. What might you suggest that I do to make the most recent? I have tried adding arrow root powder but it doesn’t seem to make any difference. Not sure what to try .
    Thank you!

    Is there anyway to make it last longer than 2 weeks? I feel like I would like to make a huge batch once a month versus once every two weeks.

    How long do you have to whip in order to get that fluffy texture? The best I could get it was like a thick lotion consistency, even after 10 mins or so. All my ingredients were fresh (I know sometimes coconut oil will get too soft when it's not fresh)

    Thank you for the video. I am making one with lavendar oil. I was wondering if i wanted to make one with vanilla scent. Can i add some vanilla powder? The one we use for cooking? Or would vanilla beans only give the scent?
