    Thanks for this! The tip about getting transition shots/thinking about storytelling when getting shots is really useful to know. I tend to get caught up in filming all the epic scenery a lot of the time, which doesn't provide great context for the final video.

    Would you not advise or suggest a head mount for a lot of the shots?

    Nice tips! Thanks for sharing. I picked up an Akaso EK7000 a few months back & was very pleased with the quality (video & audio) it provided. What changed my mind was when I went on an outing after a rain storm & there was a LOT of humidity. At least a 3rd of my video clips were corrupted. I was heartbroken. So, I recently purchased a GoPro Hero 5 Black to prevent such corruption in my future videos.
    I have only a few videos currently up, but plan on posting more. Take a gander & let me know what you think. My 1st was shot on an old Sony camcorder, but the next few were on my Akaso.
    Would love to climb those trails you were on - awesome views!

    Just found your channel when I searched for GoPro tips when hiking as I've recently started a channel about walks with only GoPro in hand. Your tips (and your channel) are amazing! Thank you :)

    I like using a small tripod by Ultrapod. it can function as a tripod by itself, or attach it to your hiking poles to use as a selfies stick. Or use the velcro to attach to a tree branch or anything else. Little extra weight.

      Those things are sweet! I got one with my very first camcorder and it was incredibly useful. I comply forgot about it. I will have to see if I can find it around the house.

    What is that on 6:55? The safe in wilderness? Is there any cash machine, maybe spa around there? This is wilderness where you feel as in town...

    Kyle I know this is an old video. So you may have some new info. I have the 3+ and was about to do some hiking. (old guy) So I was curious of the settings for the camera. Most will be day hikes. I have flooded my head with so much stuff. So it has confused me. What would you set your camera up to for simplicity . I do understand the battery usage so I have extra batteries. I just want it to look good for youtube so I can share with family. Thanks for any advise. Ron

    I'm sorry for just seeing this one, but thanks for sharing these tips - I have a gopro 8 and will be hiking Pike's Peak this summer ( 2 days ) - What settings would you recommend? I plan on using short 3 t o 4 seconds going from one clip to another set to music. Would you do 2.7K / 60 fps / linear? or would you do 4K? - Any advice is appreciated - Thanks :)

    I realise this is a REALLY OLD video - but I have to try and ask? How are you doing the footage that doesn't show the pole? Say the one that follows you from the back?
    I am guessing it's either the angle of the camera or you're filming in higher than 1080P and editing it out?

    • @Spacegoat92
      @Spacegoat92 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You just angle the camera so it leaves the pole out. That's what i do anyway. LoL

    Have you ever considered using a stick pick that goes on the end of your trekking Pole? I've heard a lot of people use those and like them and then you don't have to carry an extra piece of gear with you

  • @Ghostginthree
    @Ghostginthree 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Cool video and info. I just need to learn how to edit. lol I have a question for you. I have the GoPro Hero 3 White Edition. When I use it to take a video of say my dog hiking with me for example a 30 to 40 minute video, when I look at it via my computer it is in several individual videos. When I use my typical video cam for the same 30 to 40 minutes, I can watch the video in one long video, which I like. Can i configure my GoPro to do the same or is it meant to create several individual video sections of a long video? I am still new to the GoPro world. Thanks

    • @kylemartin101
      @kylemartin101  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Ghostginthree you gopro will always save each clip as a separate video file. You could splice them together in an editing software. You should get Quik (it is free made gopro and super easy to use) but if all you want to to see all your clips played back to back download VLC select all the clips you shot and add them to the playlist in VLC (you can do this by selecting all the clips and dragging them into VLC). When one clip end the next one will start automatically

    Why you didn`t use Gopro 3 way??? Pole and tripod in compact size! Better?!

    • @kylemartin101
      @kylemartin101  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 3-way is way more stable but it is a lot bigger then the pole I took and does not have the same reach. The small tripod would have been a big help.

    Hey Kyle,
    Thanks for the vid! I'm looking to bring my Hero 5 black and I'm wondering what you use to record your audio?
    I know you have to buy the adapter from go pro, but do you attach an external lapel mic or something else?
    I'd like to get something that works well , is lightweight, and doesn't break the bank.
    Thanks again for any advice.

    • @kylemartin101
      @kylemartin101  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +muzzo909 I use the onboard mics for a lot of what I do. Adding a mic is possible for sure but it adds size and makes the set up more complex while making the GoPro not waterproof. If I really need a clean audio track I use the rode smart lav+ it is a really high quality lav mic you can plug into your phone. I synk the audio clip from my phone with the video from the GoPro useing Red Giant Pluralize but you can do it manually.

      Thanks for the advice. The onboard mics should work most of the time, but it's difficult to get decent audio in windy conditions.
      I appreciate the info!!
