    Thank you for sharing this video, which inspired me a lot. I was able to reuse my BMW satnav cradle to fit my new Garmin Zumo XT in, without having to purchase/order adapters. Actually, I reuse the same four holes instead of drilling new ones, I used some more washers (I had to purchase longer screws), and I customized a lock (from a metal square bracket) that I screwed on the existing one. This way, the XT is a little bit more out of the cradle, but it is secured and easily removable.

    Thanks for the video! I just mounted my Zumo XT to my 2023 using your video as reference and it works like a charm. I clipped off the factory end and soldered it to the Garmin harness.

    Top video mate. Just done this modification on my bike and it works perfectly. Only difference was I used a 6mm bolt for the locking pin. Thanks for sharing 👌

    G8 solution! I was looking fór adaptor for my Zumo xt2 and in fact I have found only two possibilities : 3DAM that looks cranky and Wunderlich that is solid, but thick like hell. It was luck I found Youryblack video - this is exactly what I was looking for! Thanks man, you have solved my last week headache! 😂

    Hi David, thanks for watching, but I'm not sure what you mean by 'shoulders', but I don't recall any issues with where I drilled the holes, at the time I just guessed at about 4mm across and 2mm down and it turned out to be about right. So it sounds like your cradle might be different than mine ? my bike is a 2019 so maybe yours is older, or newer and it's different for some reason. Sorry you're struggling, others seem to have done it exactly the same as me and had no issues.

    Hello, I'm a little confused. I just finished drilling the holes in oem cradle as per your instructions. It seems that the 4mm horizontally is fine, but the vertical 2mm down doesn't work with the oem cradle clamping piece on the cross bar. There are shoulders, for lack of a better description, that don't allow any movement vertically. Am I missing something here or did yours not have these shoulders/wings on this piece?

    Awesome job. Would love to know if anyone has successfully tried your method with the XT2. Looking at buying either the XT or the XT2, but happy to stick with XT if this method doesn’t work for the 2.

    doe sthis also works for the XT2? i have a 2023 GS adv with nav prep on it...what you did looks so much more nicer then with an adaptor with the XT2 floating in front of it.. yours is a tight fit with the OEM BMW nav prep

    Hi,
    Just ordered my epoxy resin for the locking mechanism but I am struggling to find the connectors for the wiring.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Great video, very useful thanks. Do you have any idea as to what the offset on the drilled holes would be for a Garmin XT2? It’s a bit larger than the XT I believe?

    • @Carlshandlebarsandholidays
      @Carlshandlebarsandholidays  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I don’t I’m afraid, but by offering one up to the other you should be able to gauge it, that’s all I did, (there is a bit of guess work involved ).
      Thanks for watching. 👍

    Would you happen to know if I could fit a Garmin NUVI 2599 in the BMW cradle somehow, as I have a hardly used one which I would like to make proper use of?

    • @Carlshandlebarsandholidays
      @Carlshandlebarsandholidays  ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m sorry I’ve no experience of that one, but if it’s a similar size with a similar attachment bracket maybe the same would apply.

    • @handlebarsandholidays

      Oh … it’s quite a long time ago that, from what I remember I think it was about four very thin washers.

      @@handlebarsandholidays Goofy me. I realized that the bike generally puts out 12v. The XT uses a transformer to lower the output to about 5v. That means that the XT2 (12v) is not compatible with the XT wiring interface.

    why its need to drill the 4 new holes in the OEM support? isnt it possible to use the default holes?

    • @Carlshandlebarsandholidays
      @Carlshandlebarsandholidays  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No the XT won’t quite fit if you use the OEM holes, it needs to be moved over a bit.

    Once I stop watching the Giro cycle race I will get around to doing this. But I,m thinking even if I just mount the Zumo mount into the BMW mount it will still make it difficult for someone to steal. Could you tell me how long the drill bit should be please.

    • @Carlshandlebarsandholidays
      @Carlshandlebarsandholidays  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi the length of the drill bit’s not that critical, from memory I’d say it was about 40-45mm, as long as it slides under the release button at least a third or so of it’s length it’ll stop it from being pressed.
      Thanks for watching 👍

      Thanks correct, the Nav wheel doesn’t work, but as the Zumo is so accessible and glove friendly is honestly hadn’t been an issue.
