Thanks you, I'm glad you enjoyed it. We made these videos for our own amusement and it was a real commitment lugging that huge camcorder round the park all day, so its nice to be able to share them with the world now.
@@imansfield Your collection of videos are truly fascinating. You guys definitely blazed the trail for the modern day theme park enthusiast! Hope there's more to come (particularly of Frontierland in Morecambe, quite a rarity to find new videos on this park).
@@joshormerod5382 Hey thank you! I'm glad you are enjoying my old videos! I do have some morecambe footage somewhere but its a bit rough around the edges. I'll dig it out. Also have lots of European and USA parks to come too!
I don't care whether a video was created for memories or views, just the sheer fact that media can be democratised like this is amazing, this video was uploaded 26 years after it was created and now has 18k+ views, I'm just glad i was able to witness older bits of media before it evaporated.
It’s funny, we only made those video diary’s for our own amusement. TH-cam didn’t exist so we never thought anyone else would see them or be remotely interested. Meeting John was an added bonus! Such a nice guy and happy to take the time to talk to enthusiasts.
We need more brilliant geniuses like John Wardley. He was the only one who really brought life and character to Alton towers and chessington. Especially when it came to attractions.
They did a soft opening of this a few days before and I was lucky enough to get on, we were on the second ever train open to the public. Brilliant memories, thanks for the video.
Fantastic bit of footage!... Thank you for sharing . I went to Alton towers in June 2021 with the family, and went on "oblivion" and that drop was like being catapulted from top to the bottom as it got faster and faster before finally going under the tunnel with so many sensations. you really feel the G-force 4.5G. Love the mist effect as we go through it. Also went on "Nemesis" and that was a brilliant Experience. John wardley is an absolute genius in what he does
This video is great, as the previous commenter noted it's so genuine and created for the occasion and not to get millions of hits on a streaming site like this. I went on this ride a couple of days ago and for me, it still scares me, every time it seems to unlock my fear of heights that normally I keep well under control.
Excellent video dude, I am eternally jealous you met the legend Mr Wardley, I’ve exchanged emails with him after reading his excellent book ‘finding my nemesis’, what a gentleman he really is, keep up the great vids matey 👍🏻
@@imansfield I was 12 when this ride was released, it was literally the most famous ride on the planet at that time and very feared. I watched some programme where queues got to 3+hours in that first season. Still a great ride to this day and must have been scary/exciting riding it on day 1 after all the build up and hype
Back when videos were taken for memories and not views. Love the authenticity of this and the genuine excitement and joy! Love this video 😊

The original theme park worldwide. Amazing that you got to speak to John

It's still an impressive ride today!
Yep!
Woah, the opening day of my favourite ride in the park 😀
Thank you for sharing this. Brought lots of memories back!
4:14 she screamed the *soul* out of her
Ahahahahaha 😂
Sounds like one of those cheap firework screaming rockets :D
Like an LNER A3 Flying Scotsman whistle
Love those Northern Accents " Wont bloody well be getting me up there " 😂😂
The fact the John Wardley 'wow' joke was around back then 😆 I thought it was a TH-cam thing
Superb footage 👏👏👏
Wish it was still 1998 😢
Really enjoyed watching those videos
This is so sweet
March 14 was a day after my birthday!
As if the 'WOW' jokes in regards to John were being made back then 😭
You’ve changed so much
Great video 😁
I got stuck on the end for my first go an nearly shxt myself.
Great upload thanks
Vlog from the 1990s
Looks really cold should warm up on the ride 😁
Man the length of that cue. When did you finally get to ride it 2015? :D
Surprised there was no smoke.
You know of any opening day footage of Nemesis?
do you think you have any footage from nemesis opening Day?
No sorry , we went to the opening of Shockwave instead. Queued up for 3 hours for the first ride!
Did Gregg ever ride it in the end?
I don’t think he ever did!
What was in the Smilers place back then
Black hole
The black hole
Are you a postman?
Haha, clues in the name!
@@imansfield did you record this? You in the video?
@@sfullernj I’m the one doing the filming.
