You walked right by Nelson Sullivan's house at Gansevoort and Ninth Avenue who is largely credited with being the first pre-internet vloggers. He documented a lot of street scene video in NY in the late 70's and early 80's and lots of video from RuPaul's early carrier in NY and Atlanta as well.

Tom is my favorite New York City tour guide because he actually knows the history in depth, and that really enhances his walks around the city. Anyone can walk around the city with a video camera, but it's the information he gives on the history and culture that make it so much more interesting for people who are not from New York City. And he does it with a sense of humor. Terrific!

I stumbled into the Meatpacking district circa 1987/88. It looked like an old abandoned movie set. Dark corners, old decrepit buildings, leather daddies and transvestite hookers walking the streets. I loved it! I'll be visiting NYC in about a week for the first time since I left in 1988. It will be shocking how much it's changed.

Cool videos! My wife and I visited this area of NYC in summer of 2015 and ate at Hector's diner almost every day because it was so cheap and close to The Jane where we stayed. We were able to go in Hogs and Heifers bar before it closed, also walked the high line the whole length. Awesome area of the city to visit but could not imagine living there! We also biked the whole time with the free loaner bikes from The Jane Hotel.

I used to work in the building across from Chelsea Market (shown at :56). The second floor is the US HQ of Moët Hennessy, but they will be moving out soon. The entire area is great. I have to say that the Starbucks Reserve does have a great whiskey barrel aged cold brew though. Sad you didn’t point out the home of a true vlogging pioneer, Nelson Sullivan, which was to your right at 15:35. His videos documented so much of that area in the 80s and he was friends with a lot of people from the scene, including RuPaul.

Oh the irony. Tom, as you made your comments about the plight of the small business in NYC you walked by the corner of 10th and 16th St. Members of my family used to operate a business below the High Line right there on that corner. I spent some time working there in the mid to late 80's. It was a very different place then, to say the least.
My grandfather told me stories as a boy of the Manhattan cowboys that worked the train crossings. They also used to WALK livestock down 11th avenue on Sundays to the slaughterhouses.

Been on The High Line a few times, and as you say, it's usually quite crowded. I'm usually there in May though, which is a great time to visit. Can't wait to get back. Have done Brooklyn a few times, but there's nothing like the neighborhoods of Manhattan.

Thank you again "Tomdnyc" for your interesting broadcast, post with interesting stories about different places of this city, and of course "There is an only one New", and also, of course you're absolutely right about small businesses, rents and the like ....I also rode with my bike around some these parts of this city, when I worked as a delivery person...

You got a 15 year show there dude. Keep it up. I lived in the New York area from birth to 1988. I'm 72 now so I feel ya
