My gran raised me in edgware . near north London and all the time in the 1960s and 70s those 1938 stock tube trains were everywhere . Your video is bringing back the memories . Those trains of course were in their time Bakerloo line , Piccadilly line and Northern line trains and Judging by the map inserts just above the windows the carriage you were in was an ex northern line train . If you look at an RT type bus that of was running on the roads at the time that train ran in London
Wow, just discovered your channel and subscribed immediately. Geoff Marshall better watch out! 😀 The Piccadilly line was my stamping ground back when I lived in Heston/Hounslow in the 1960s - back then it was a mix of 1938 and 59/62 stock with the occasional Standard stock to surprise us.
The sounds of this train accelerating are so much like the old Berlin S-Bahn trains from the late 20's and 30's that kept running well into the 90's (some examples made it to mid-2000!). Only the characteristic noise of the brake compressor is missing.
Id love to go do these 1938 stock railtours, but alas, living in the northern edges of Gloucestershire makes getting to london painful sometimes. At least i can make it to the acton depot
When they were going downhill from Hendon Central through the tunnel into Colindale those trains used to bounce around like nobodys business . As a child it was like a funfair ride.

1938 Stock - back out on Sunday 9th July - Acton Town - Oakwood - found out late but trains will be running through central London pic stations - looks of strange reactions from normal passengers
Love these trains, remember riding on them when I was a child back in the 1970's, they used to run on the Piccadilly Line; that was long time ago, happy memories. Great to see it again!
I remember those trains from as far back as the late 1950s, when I think they were running on all the deep level lines (the Waterloo & City was part of British Rail until 1994). All the Underground trains were red then, and they were later replaced with unpainted 'silver' trains. The 1938 stock trains were in service on the Northern line until 1988, just under 50 years after they were first introduced on the Tube. The terrible 1975 accident at Moorgate, at the terminus of the Northern City line, shortly before it was due to be transferred to British Rail and run beyond Finsbury Park, involved a 1938 stock train. The line was considered part of the Northern line at the time, despite not being connected to it (by rail).

It must be amazing to see them back running after having ridden on them while they were still in service on the Underground. They are stunning.
