L'Arc~en~Ciel (Japanese nickname LARUKU) are a huge Japanese visual-kei rock band that have been around since 1991 - yeah the name is French, literally "Arc in the Sky" (meaning rainbow 🌈), a lot of Japanese visual-kei bands use French names for some reason They have a huge variety of types of songs in their library, so don't write them off too soon. Driver's High isn't one of my faves either, but it's popular in the west as it was used in the anime Great Teacher Onizuka, so I can see why it was chosen Their singer Hyde is one of my favourite singers and you'll probably run into him again in the future with solo work under his own name, his band VAMPS and most recently with the superband The Last Rockstars alongside Yoshiki, Miyavi and Sugizo I first managed to see them live in 2007 in Japan, but they've occasionally toured to Europe and the US, including playing Madison Square Garden in 2012 The well runs deep, so keep an open mind - I guarantee there are songs in their library you'll dig more than this one :)
not a mega laruku fan that's listened to every song in their catalogue, but i have heard most of their singles and having watched this channel for awhile, i highly doubt david will ever be a fan haha (and there's nothing wrong with that).
L'arc en ciel are rock legends in Japan. They have numerous hits and even some punk vatiations of their popular songs so you might be digging that more!
First time I heard L'arc-en-ciel was in the Rurouni Kenshin anime, when I was still a kid. They used to be featured in a lot of anime songs from the 90's till the mid 2000's as well. This song in particular was used as the opening song of 'Great Teacher Onizuka'. The main vocalist, Hyde, is a very famous singer in Japan who has collaborated with a ton of other musicians in multiple projects (a recent example is a band called 'The Last Rockstars' which is composed of 4 musicians, Yoshiki, Sugizo, Miyavi and himself).
Small history lesson: L'Arc~en~Ciel formed in 1991, and Driver's High is from the 1999 album Ark (arguably the album where they peaked in the mainstream). It's a live staple, evidenced by the call and response, the fans singing the 3rd verse and the jumping. Some people have already mentioned that this was the anime opening of Great Teacher Onizuka, which is partially why the song is so beloved. It's a good song, but they have better. Blame, As if in a Dream, Anata, Sai wa Nagarareta, Niji or Garasu Dama, for example. Also, this reaction is perfectly timed because they're heading on tour tomorrow (as of writing this comment), so thanks for checking them out, David! Hopefully, you'll give them another chance in the future.
maybe you pick the wrong song L’Arc-En-Ciel have many kind of styles regge , metal, j pop , funk, jazz etc.. you cand find a lot diferents vibes i think thats why they are very popular in japan and LATAM in overseas asia and europe because they have a song for any style and doing great job i aprecciate your honest opinion maybe was not the best choice for metal guys
Yeah, they're a huge band. For what they do, they kind of started out as alt-rock, pop-rock. Kind of interesting for an indie early 90's thing. And then they got huge, absolutely massive. Better energy, also a theme of driving, might be "Heaven's Drive". But it's also not a hugely complex song - just very high energy, driving drums, and some versions gets Hyde with a heavy rasp in the voice even. th-cam.com/video/lkmyFHi6lU4/w-d-xo.html
The song was released 25 years ago, and i guess its age is showing. It feels "slower" when i listen to it today, but still on my playlist, just a nice catchy song.
L'arc en ciel tiene otras canciones mas de tu estilo, se que te gustaría mas por ser tu estilo canciones como Shout at the devil, lose control, as one, drinking down, etc.
This live version sounds a little off, and their earlier material tends to be much less poppy. I never thought I would be that into his band either, though, I mainly listen to black metal all day. But they've become one of my favorite bands of all time.
If you like heavy kind of song, you should react to L'Arc~en~Ciel's Promised Land th-cam.com/video/kiyCEwzbXVk/w-d-xo.htmlsi=Lo4ApMOIUL6In5ui or Shout Out Of The Devil th-cam.com/video/BPN7__yIe7o/w-d-xo.htmlsi=pAwiyEi3ORFrrFgI instead. although Driver's High is one of their major track, it's not on my top 50 L'arc~en~Ciel song either out of their 487 songs.
You should react to the visual kei band named "D", they now are on hiatus after more of 20 years active, has a lot of very good songs, visual kei bands are more heavy than the Jrocks bands like this iconic band larcenciel
They are one of the biggest rock bands in Japan history, only behind B'z, GLAY and Mr children. Vocalist is Hyde, he has an unique voice and sings beautiful. Good reaction and review, it's true this is not so spectacular like most of japanese metal bands today.

“Forbidden lover”とか”finale”といったダークな曲がおすすめです!
あとついでに”love flies”
Awesome! Thanks for taking the time and the honest review! 👍
Had lots of fun watching this.
Hyde’s vocal range is amazing. L’arc are too pop for my tastes but I love his voice. ~Queenie

Was just listening to this one, so good timing.

The solo work of the lead singer (Hyde) is just amazing. The guy's a legend, that's a straight up fact.
There are some that know GTO, Great Teacher Onizuka, and those who don’t, I pity the fools 😀
This song is the intro for the anime 😅
Memories... 🤣
time flies…
I do believe this was one of their earlier songs, and they were formed in (google search) 1991 so very well could have been written in the 80s lol.
Great reaction❤❤
You would love the singers solo work under HYDE, way more heavy

Imminence reaction please! 🤞🤞🤞
I much prefer the Mary's Blood live cover. It feels more exciting than the orignal.
こういう曲もいいけど、ラルクの本当の良さは叙情的で詩的なとこ。外国人には日本語の奥深さが分からないから、多分理解できない。
「外国人には日本語の奥深さが分からない」
それはちょっと差別的じゃないですか? w
