As time passed, the devices evolved, reeuced in size, and now they are getting bigger again... The passage of time changes the perception of what is "fashion" back and forth... hahaha...
It’s not fashion, we want a device that’s more portable (smaller) but that directly negatively affects the games we have now compared to sonic and Pokémon back in the day. You can’t play call of duty on no gameboy screen so we are looking for a happy medium now.

I wonder how the gaming performance is with overclocking the msi claw cpu and gpu to its highest cpu tdp with after burner and using the msi dragon center to adjust the settings. I hope that msi makes a titan version of the msi claw called the msi claw titan edition or titan version or whatever it would be called.

I was hoping that MSI made the Claw simply to get their feet wet and get some experience and going the Intel route because they knew something better from Intel was on the way. I mean at the end of the day as long as they make enough $$$ to be profitable with it, that's all that really matters in their view. The handheld gaming PC market seems to be growing pretty rapidly at this point in time and it is nice for everyone to have more options. My ROG Ally and Steam Deck have both been absolute game changers for me personally. It is of benefit to consumers to have more options to choose from and more competition to breed more innovation + less complacency.
True. The only thing I hate about the Switch is the ergonomics, but I like that it has the ability to have attachable third party controllers that improve this.
This looks really nicer. If Dave2D’s preview of this chip is accurate, this should be competitive with the z1 Extreme processors. I like the 8” 1200p screen format a lot. As long as Intel’s CPU can deliver as promised on power draw and performance, this could be a great solution and competitive with the AMD Z1 and therefore Ally X. HOWEVER, my big concern would be reliance on Intel graphics drivers vs AMD graphics drivers in Windows. I still don’t trust Intel on that front….

It would have been better if it had detachable controls, and a bit smaller bezels. Using it as a tablet and in tabletop mode would be nice, it also makes it easier to replace the controllers if they stop working. The legion go has smaller bezels then this and the steam deck.
Detachable controls for what? It makes the whole unit more flimsy and it adds a tremendous amount of weight like in the legion Go. Smaller bezels are not really possible as of yet as said by Asus.
I'm considering getting a handheld and I think the legion go detachable controller sorry huge benefit. Mostly because gives it value as a standalone Windows tablet. But it also has a huge screen,. The utility of a standalone tablet with a smaller screen that's probably not as good.

This has always been the case with every generation of Thunderbolt Controllers. Discrete solutions are more expensive for the OEMs but an integrated solution is more affordable. Intel have always known this which is why Thunderbolt only gained traction when it was integrated into Tiger Lake. When it comes to mass adoption, very many OEMs always opt out of discrete solutions. Intel is just being greedy as they could still make money if they integrate it natively on Meteor Lake or Lunar Lake. It is such poor strategy that has plagued Intel.
Obviously a Discrete Barlow Ridge Thunderbolt 5 Controller is more expensive to implement than an integrated solution. Intel know this since Thunderbolt 3 was integrated on Tiger Lake. They have failed to integrate Thunderbolt 5 on Meteor Lake or Lunar Lake and there isc no excuse for it except greed. Not only is an integrated solution more cost effective to the OEMs but it also drives mass adoption.

16:10 is actually a pretty nice aspect ratio on these smaller handheld displays imo, though I get that there are quite a few games that don't support it. 16:9 is fine too though so really is a matter of preference. I do agree with all of your points though and would love to see a handheld with all of these features for under $1k.

How’s it being late? They literally take the lead. They are the first main manufacturer to get the second gen out. If intel’s offering is as strong as they claim, and if MSI nails it in the software department they literally have a killer product. The 890m is decent on lower wattage, not so much once you go above 30w, but it isn’t the leap people might have expected. Intel seems to have gotten actually quite a potent offering in terms of raw performance, but it remains to be seen if the efficiency claims are true and if arc graphics still struggle with drivers.
Comparing a chip with an entire device is stupid. Implying that two OBVIOUSLY same-generation processors are somehow different generations is even more stupid.

The Ally X and Steamdeck OLED are revisions, not next generation products as said by their manufacturers. However, the MSI Claw 8 AI + is a next gen product, the same as all handhelds that will come with the Z2 extreme. However, none have been announced so far, therefore MSI has taken the lead so far.
No OLED, no buy. We already have a 7" 120 16:9 OLED available now, unlike a year ago. MSI said this isn't coming out until early 2025, so there's no excuse not to have OLED. Also not a fan of 16:10. Bad for more recent emulation, stretching or black bars, unlike 16:9.
No excuse? VRR OLED is excessively expensive right now because there's not much in that field when it comes to screens. You either have OLED screen or VRR screen, and for gaming VRR is so much better. If you want both VRR and OLED then the price will spike massively
Why it has to has a higher price? Because they finally finished the hardware and maybe they will not look at people as a tester during development phase? They should be very honest like the next: "We do not make 1.5 version upgrade like competition, steam and ally x. We release 2nd generation on the same price to be able to show how good is our hardware+software. Because, if we increase price you will buy cheaper steam deck or a bit higher price gamer laptop or desktop, with much better graphics, and you will never experience how good a MSI CLAW 2 is." It is a question from me to all windows handheld maker: will you lower your prices to be able to make handhelds more attractive? Too big, probably too heavy, the black bar with the MSI Logo is totally unnecessary and ruins the whole picture, adding space that will render difficult for most people reaching for the shoulder buttons and holding the device without fatigue.
I'm not saying 8 inches is too big dudes. The DEVICE is too big. 8 inch instead, is widely accepted as the best compromise for Windows handhelds. I was hoping for a sleeker and lighter form factor.

A NATIVE landscape 1080p (not 1200p) OLED VRR panel, 32GB of RAM, add a USB A port and 10 mo Watt hours to that battery and we might have a WINNER!!!

I have a steam deck with windows 11. I'll upgrade when games cant hit 30fps anymore.

Too big, probably too heavy, the black bar with the MSI Logo is totally unnecessary and ruins the whole picture, adding space that will render difficult for most people reaching for the shoulder buttons and holding the device without fatigue.
It’s not too big. 7 inch screens is too small for these handhelds.
