I bought an old car back in the 80's with a just its primer coat. I was broke. Kmart had a 99 cent sale on canned spray paint. Bought 15 cans, and went way up in their parking lot with a cardboard piece and started spraying the car white. Bout an hour later, was done. Stepped back to see my (barley acceptable) paint job... Then, I Heard a bunch of clapping and cheering. Turned around to see a group of guys that had been playing baseball in the field next to the Kmart cheering my efforts. Yeah, from that far away, it looked great... still it worked and sold the car for more than I bought it for. Oh, and I returned 3 cans of the spray paint that day..lol
Looks good, boss. This is exactly the way my buddies and I used to fix our cars. My buddy had a '67 Pontiac Tempest that had almost no floorpans. We laid down several layers of paper towels soaked with POR 15. It was so hard when it cured we could drill and tap the paper towels to put the seats in 😆 One time I painted an '88 Prelude white and being my first paint job it came out looking like a powdered donut.
Wanted to get paint on a 72 F100 I bought for $300.00. Ebay came through with 4 mostly full quarts of enamel from a guy's dirt track racercar build. (20.00 +s&h) for white, blue, red and yellow. Didn't want brown so didn't use the red. Mixed into a beautiful mint green that once painted matched a 68 Thunderbird in the neighborhood. ( Didn't realize it WAS a factory color for that truck!) Flat black roof and stripes and less than $50.00 due to thinner and hardener added. I have never been a " patina" lover. Any paint is better to me.
Looks great! My 80 k20 had the same thing going on with the hood. We straightened the hood out to match the profile of the top of the fenders and welded in some homemade gussets on the underside. That was supposed to be temporary and it’s still holding up 11 years later.
In high school my parents loaned me money to buy that same model truck and a snow plow, I paid them back in full the first January. With a half bed full of snow and a plow up front there’s nowhere it won’t go. Well worth saving, even just for parts.
I would cruise it. Looks good to be as old as it is. I had a 72 and a 73 C10s. The 73 had a crack in the frame. I drove it until it couldn't go anymore. Good job.
A white roof will help in the summer months. If it was me I would probably paint some rally stripes on the hood 😀 Not sure I can paint a car anymore due to a brain injury.Forgot a lot of my skills. Used to 2 tone everything I painted. Blue/ grey or Red/ grey seemed to be my favorites. 🤣
I detect a VGG fan! A few Derekisms in there, lol. A set of factory 4x4 ralley wheels with the rings and caps would look great on that truck. I'd clean the drip rails off too. Looks great to me man! Good job
I just found your channel a couple days ago and subscribed. You seem a lot like me, I resurrect old crap as well. Oh well, someone has to do it. BTW word of advice for that harbor freight paint gun, buy the metal cup with a gasket that seals the lid so paint doesn’t drip on the hood panel when your painting flat surfaces. Ask me how I know. 😂
I rolled and cut in OD green from an army surplus store on my old 92 wt 1500. People would ask me who did the paint and how cool it looked. They were like WTF😳 when I told them , Just brush and a roller and two gallons of paint at $8.00 a gallon 👍
Back in the 70"s my brother and i painted an old ford sedan blue with spray cans a nice blue, it lasted for a few years surprisingly. And from a few feet away looked good as well lol.
Given the overall condition of the truck and how inexpensive front fenders and bed patch panels are this would be excellent material for the next upgrade to what was once the Halloween truck!!!!
so did the same thing, but even cheaper. local bodyshop going out of business threw away their bedliner supplies. Got it for free, then, instead of hooking up hte sprayer to my compressor, I just used a roller to roll it on. 92 k2500. came out perfect. keep after it bud
The truck looked good with all the colors. A clear coat of paint would have preserve the patina. However, the black looks even better. But you must change those tires. It looks like the truck has a shopping cart wheels...
Looks perfect for your use and you've at least curbed the rusting for the time being. That being said, if you had more options I would hope black would be the last color you'd choose since it is pretty much a highlighter for every imperfect surface 😆
I had a 1974 Chevy C-20 and the best thing I ever did was paint it with a cheap spray gun and flat black primer though it says grey on the can. When it gets scratched or starts looking bad get the gun out and use some sandpaper and shoot some more primer on it.
I had a white 79 4x4 stepside in the custom deluxe package. The best think was the tach where the gas gauge was and the four “idiot” lights were actual gauges.
I ha ve been going back and forth about painting it for months, I liked the old look but the body was getting rusty and showing age, and when I picked the kids up from school..... well hahaha
I once painted a motorcycle with house paint, surprisingly it didn't look half bad and it lasted almost a decade before it started falling off like month old scabs, I put the longevity down to decent prep work.
It looks pretty good. But I honestly liked the old "patina" before the paint job. It was weird and I like weird stuff lol. The little wheels and tires look weird too. Needless to say I like em!
Glad you painted it. I'm not a fan of "patina". When you have old crappy vehicles all your life, you want to have a nice looking car/ truck when you get the chance .pex
Yes that is what is known as a "G E" paint job , "Good Enough" . LOL. Seriously it does not look that bad and the bare spots now have paint over them and its all one color on the outside! But Black is the worst color as it shows every flaw. White is your most forgiving color as it does not show flaws nearly as bad and white is actually easier to keep clean!
That entry was so Red Green style😂 New subscriber here. Enjoying your videos. Might be interested in a nice lightweight pickup camper for my 2014 GMC Sierra 1500 8ft bed. Does Lance make any nice larger but lightweight mods for the rare 8ft bed that would be 1/2 ton friendly? It does have the 5.3 in it and only 35k miles. Lance
I had a 76 Chevy square body 2 Wheel Dr. that was a faded blue and I painted it back to the original color and then I accidentally hit a deer with it ruined when I worked on several months later, but that was a damn good truck with 350 on it
As you probably well know black is the WORST color if your trying to hide body imperfections. White, Tan , tan digi camo all great options. Still all in all not bad and I wouldn't kick ot out of my garage for peeing the bed.
I’ve seen worse, and driven trucks with WAY worse looking paint jobs. And when I say worse, I mean the kind of paint jobs that the paint was as rough as sharks skin.

Hey, $3 bucks back in your pocket in the 80's was actually worth something!
looks good from 40 feet haha

love the time lapse music! that said, i would have left it as it was! that patina is gold!

I Don't mind it, i think it looks better
I would cruise it. Looks good to be as old as it is. I had a 72 and a 73 C10s. The 73 had a crack in the frame. I drove it until it couldn't go anymore. Good job.
I love it. From a battered mess to a decent work truck.

yeah and white won't show the hail damage as much haha
TBI is a b*tch!, I sometimes forget where I am when I wake, it takes a minute for my brain to reboot and tell me I'm at home in my own bed.
Silver rather than white.
It still stays nice and cool.
If the area you live in gets real hot then you might consider lining the roof with a heat reflective mat under the roof lining.
Point the gun pull the trigger
That takes it up a notch. Definitely a cool truck, I'd drive it like that. New tires/rims would help like you mentioned.
I love your attitude dude. You are ready for SEMA
haha maybe in a few years...
I dig it anything c10 k10 related I’ll definitely watch ! !
Another awesome video and I do like Arby's because I have a camper that I pull behind my bicycle which is kind of interesting.
Right on
I’d happily drive that truck. Hell I’d trade my 2014 GMC Sierra for a truck like that. Great video. Subscribed
Thanks!

cool project man! enjoying your videos!
Glad you like them!
I would have left it, but it turned out good. I love when the finished product is covered by thumbnails for the next video.

hey a 40 footer is all i need, keep the people at the kids school from staring at me haha
I painted my old Ford truck with some Rust-Oleum and a foam roller. It came out like yours , not perfect but decent. Nice job.
Given the overall condition of the truck and how inexpensive front fenders and bed patch panels are this would be excellent material for the next upgrade to what was once the Halloween truck!!!!

@@LifeofLind thanks - bedliner hides all the dings I just didn't want to fix🤣🤣
Wish i could find an old square body around me for a decent price with any body left. Lol. Nice lookin work rig ya got there
Thanks 👍
All one color - not an eye sore and it will not attract Police eyes = success !
EXACTLY MY MENTALITY!! ( 'specialy about the coppers!)

agreed

yeah black is not my favorite choice, but it was sitting around
As long as it looks better than you started.
I subscribed Can't wait to see the the update on the winnebago

Your intro was awesome! Blame it on the brakes. 😂
better than blaming it on the driver haha
I had a white 79 4x4 stepside in the custom deluxe package.
The best think was the tach where the gas gauge was and the four “idiot” lights were actual gauges.
what are those tabs sticking out between the Bed and the Cab?
camper mounts
This is gonna come around and a feller is gonna have himself a goin to town rig! Wait...am i on the right channel?
I wonder what Derek Beri is doin right now???
@@LifeofLind XD Fantastic.
Looks good but I must admit I do like the old patina look more. It gives the old girl a lot more character.❤
I ha ve been going back and forth about painting it for months, I liked the old look but the body was getting rusty and showing age, and when I picked the kids up from school..... well hahaha
patina in my day was called a rusty piece of crap.
Loving it dude
Good paint work!😀
Thanks! 😊
I once painted a motorcycle with house paint, surprisingly it didn't look half bad and it lasted almost a decade before it started falling off like month old scabs, I put the longevity down to decent prep work.
Thank you. May God richly bless...
From what it was to what it is now that's 💯 better 👍
It looks pretty good. But I honestly liked the old "patina" before the paint job. It was weird and I like weird stuff lol. The little wheels and tires look weird too. Needless to say I like em!
It still looks like a work truck. It does not need to be pretty. Lining the bed does make sense if it is going to see rough use.
Any overspray on the camper and the boat inches from the car? 😅
Glad you painted it. I'm not a fan of "patina". When you have old crappy vehicles all your life, you want to have a nice looking car/ truck when you get the chance .pex
Stick some go fast stickers on it will look fine.😳👍🍺
Good enough. New Subscriber
What an improvement, looks like a mill - er, 13 bucks now, lol!
a whole $13 bucks hahah

Lance
Reminds me of the good ol detailing days at SAS
haha just do a little Micky mouse
Grey Steele paint would look close to original. Also chrome bullet hole wheels would make that truck shine
good enough for girls I hang with..
Always paint beaters white..lol Enjoy buffing the overspray off of your boat..
gives me a reason to clean it in the spring haha
Goooooood work.. 👌✅👌
Everything in there has to be covered in over spray 😂
Good work
What is up with the brackets sticking out of the sides ? Pex
Hate to see that lovely patina go 😭
Tap out a few dents. They make pdr glues you can pull stuff with too
I had a 76 Chevy square body 2 Wheel Dr. that was a faded blue and I painted it back to the original color and then I accidentally hit a deer with it ruined when I worked on several months later, but that was a damn good truck with 350 on it
I used the same gun and painted my 79 c10 rustoleum flat black, looks better than it did lol
You sprayed paint right next to your boat and RVs?????????
Yup just gives me an excess to buff them out next spring hahaha
This is the best. Making garbage, still garbage 😂❤
Textured dirt flag. Not bad with a Habor Freight sprayer.
Agreed, Far From good but Good From Far . Great Job
What are the tabs on the bed
Should have got a couple of gallons of Rust-Oleum gloss white.
I can't think of anything to say but want to post a comment for the youtube algorithm to help your channel get more attention
Thanks Craig!
Sorry to say bud wouldn't you cover up that big boad? not so nice if it is covered up in black paint? btw The truck came out real nice.....😃👍
Looks way better
non body and paint guy doin work on a work truck......came out awesome
Thanks 👍
Wheres the winnie at. I wanted to dee updates
just posted a new video on it!
I like it!
looks good.
the amount of overspray on everything in that garage now made me cringe, truck looks good now tho!
Nice old chevy
Tech Tip…You can put Vaseline on your beard next time and it will help seal. Feels like shit. Keeps you from tasting the rainbow though.
smart!
Learned that for snorkeling with a mustache!
Make another show where you clean all the over spray off of EVERYTHING!
Wishhhhhewwiiiiiisheeeeewwwe. Best sound effects ever! 😎
lol thanks Hoss! appreciate you watching
Look clean.ok
Probably should have went with white. Lot more forgiving than black. LOL
agreed, but its what i had sitting around soooo black it was
Less talk more work let's go!!!
i have a friend who painted two trucks he had with Rustoleum and one of those foam paint rollers,, didn't look all that bad
i've seen it done, i dont mind how bad my paint job looks lol
That orange re-paint looks like Home Depot orange.
30 footer, not bad lol
w video very cool to see
I think it would have looked good as is with a coat of clear, spend the money on new tires
yeah bigger tires will help, i'm not a fan of the black
Sweet. Ready for 2027 demo derby.
Sir, you probably got overspray on your boat and RV.. I hope you enjoy compounding that off 🥴
Don’t quit ur day job. Leave the painting to Earl Shieb!
I did body and paint for 30 years and black is the worst color to spray unless the body work is perfect.
Now you have overspray all over some expensive rv and boats and other stuff
Get a set of VVG hood braces
As you probably well know black is the WORST color if your trying to hide body imperfections. White, Tan , tan digi camo all great options. Still all in all not bad and I wouldn't kick ot out of my garage for peeing the bed.
haha yup, but it's what i had
I’ve seen worse, and driven trucks with WAY worse looking paint jobs. And when I say worse, I mean the kind of paint jobs that the paint was as rough as sharks skin.
More tri-pod, Less swimmy hand held.
I'll take it thank you ill trade you for my 2000 saturn LW2!!
Those are getting hard to find as well!!
Correction, it is a perfect truck, it’s a square body
Hot rod black, also known as meth black. Especially with red wheels 😂
You just described the paint scheme on my 85 ford 4x4 fi50
LOLLZ
