    Thank you for this great post. Makes me think about my father. He would have been 93 this year. Farmed all his life. I've followed in his footsteps. I feel as though I stand on the shoulders of a giant.

    This video might just be my favorite for 2022! I watch a lot of videos about oliver and farming, new and old. But this video reminded me of dad and a bunch of neighbors who told lots of stories about the canning factories during Oliver's glory days. The good, bad, and the funny. This video tripped a lot of memories. Thanks for the great video!

    It’s great seeing all these old videos. It takes somebody who actually grew up using the equipment and being around it for that matter to appreciate this so much more. It’s such a great way to tell their stories, even though most of those people in the video probably thought that Grandpa was crazy for recording it at the time lol

    Thanks for sharing. What a nice way to preserve a little piece of the past. It's so cool that you have this footage. I basically have nothing from the past of myself and ancestors farming - except for the video I've taken in this last year on my TH-cam channel. Thanks so much for sharing. Nice to see those Olivers out there plowing in their hayday.

      As i mentioned in another thread, these people lived through the depression. After years of dressing in used flour sacks, they weren't going anywhere without putting on some good clothes. It may have been hard times, but it made them better people in the long run.

    What a wonderful time it was back in those days, seemed like everything was innocent and fresh. All the folks seems to be so courteous and well mannered. That 4240 Oliver plow looks nice, some of those pull types were used by my dad, but we did have three point hitch ones too. Good one Chris, liked it a lot, like those innocent times too. Thanks, I hope you have a great Sunday and rest of week too.

    HI 😊😊 I would like 2 say that I enjoy the old color movies of the old tractors and equipment from years ago it's 1S I haven't seen be 4 I only heard about I didn't see any diesel tractors yet they were brand new in the late 1940s most people were using gas or lp gas tractors and most diesel tractors had pony engines U would start them on gas and after they warmed up they changed over 2 diesel 😊😊 there was only a few teactors already made that was direct diesel they didn't use a pony engine and they didn't have glow plugs either they wasn't even thought 💭 😮 of yet it wasn't until later on then after that they were using block heaters 4 the engine and the oil pan 😊😊 OMG 5 10 2O24

    • @ThatOliverGuyChris
      @ThatOliverGuyChris  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Oliver had a diesel option in the model 80. There weren't many made, and it used a Buda diesel that started on diesel. In the early 1950s they had a sales program where they would buy your fuel for a time after purchase of a new Oliver Diesel. It was a great sales tool, and by 1955 Oliver had half of the diesel tractor market.

    I spent many hours when I was a kid sitting on the axle watching the dirt from the plow rollover. Dad was plowing with the Oliver 770 something about watching the dirt roll over I could sit and watch that forever. Later when I got older I used Oliver super 77 and two bottom plow. Thanks Michael ☺️☺️☺️☺️

    I really loved that video, thanks for sharing it with us. As i sat here watching it i started thinking about how far our AG equipment has progressed through the years. I remember my grandfather telling me about way back when they bought their first tractor with cultivators. He was cultivating cotton with a mule and walk behind cultivator. The local Farmall dealer wanted to bring out a C Farmall with cultivators to show how they could do two rows at a time. Well my great grandfather could not comprehend how cultivating two rows at the same time was even possible so he told the salesman, Ok bring her on out. Well they showed up with the tractor, unloaded it and pulled it out to the edge of the rows. They showed my grandfather and great grandfather how you adjust it to match your row width then they took off down the rows and my grandfather and great grandfather are leaned down and sighting that tractor as it cleaned both sides of two rows the picked up at the end and came back cleaning two more rows. When the driver got back to them and switched the tractor off, the salesman looked at my great grandfather and said, well what do you think. He turned to my grandfather and said, Son, take the mule back to the barn and put her away and then turned to the salesman and said, leave the tractor here and they signed the paper work on the hood of the tractor. I would have dearly loved to have been able to have talked to your dad and grandfather and heard their experiences of their years in the business and with farming as well.

    Not that the video is super high quality (but damn well above average for a home movie of the day,) but the chisel plow appears to have done a pretty good job. I’m pleasantly surprised honestly. It doesn’t look very heavy
