    Great video! I love immersion reading too!! I find for myself when my depression is weighing really heavy on me everything feels hard, and it can also impact my ability to focus. Immersion reading really helps with this too 💙

      Yeah i don't think it's something that is so obvious, but it definitely helps hearing the words xD

    I had no idea that this was what the method was called. I use this all the time with my language learning. I'll pick up both the audio book and normal book to read in my target language and use both at the same time. It helps me with building a vocabulary, word recognition and pronunciation!

    Wow! I tried this yesterday afternoon with a book I have struggled to progress with. I was able to read over a hundred pages in a single sitting and I felt like I still read the text rather than listening to it, even able to take notes and highlight passages I liked. This is now the perfect technique for difficult (long) books and I am glad I now have it in the toolkit if I struggle to make any progress, rather than give up.

    Yes ! Immersion reading is great. Can sometimes be annoying when the narrator gets ahead cause you looked away or closed your eyes, trying to find where they're at in the text. When I get into a good flow with it though, its like a movie in my head.

    Thank you Joana for this video. All the reason you give, for why we schould try immersive reading, are really relevant.I want to try immersive reading to progress with my english prononciation. The option to syncronize kindle book with audible don't seems to work right of the box with the french kindle/audible store. Did it work seemlessly for you?

  • @TheHikingReader
    @TheHikingReader 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I've never thought about this because I usually use audiobooks to read stories when I don't have the ability/time to read physically. Though I totally agree that I pickup way more when I physically read so I usually hold off my epic reads for these times versus audiobook. I liked Andrew's idea, and I may give this a try with Malazan when I finally tackle that series! Thanks for sharing Joana! Oh and I totally would have picked up on the pigeon pronunciation. I even saw that coming as you began talking about it. I may be lucky enough that I do work with lots of people where English isn't their first/predominant language so I get exposed on different pronunciations I think.

    • @JoanaSousaReads
      @JoanaSousaReads  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I used to do that as well. I'd read lighter YA fantasy, and the occasional thriller and romance on audio and leave big heavy fantasy books for physical reading. When i discovered immersion reading, it totally changed the game. And yes, i will definitely do that with Malazan as well =)
      Nice! I absolutely think that if you're exposed to people who aren't native speakers your ear becomes trained to accents and pronunciations :)

    I’m enjoying this old video. Finding I am needing to listen at 75% of your speed because of your slight accent. I was expecting instruction to on how to use the immersion reading function on the kindle app. Instead I am getting this great qualitative description about the immersion reading experience. I am a fast-reading non-sub-vocalizer with ADHD who needs to do a lot of technical reading for my work. I miss a lot of detail with Audible, but hearing it narrated is more pleasant for me than reading. I’m hoping to pair them.

      When I do both, I read and listen at the same time through the Kindle app. When I purchase the kindle book, a lot of times they offer the audible book at a really low rate. When I purchase it with the Kindle book, it allows me to listen and read at the same time through the app. It highlights the words in the book as the audible book plays. I love it! It really helps me retain what I’m reading!

    Hi, Joana, I guess you speak too faster to notice the narrator's pronunciation. Some liasion they combined make them sounds speaking faster by skipping tiny syllables but highlight every unique sounds of words. For my estimate, the narrator can proceeding 150-220 wpm or higher. For No native speaker,150wpm or even 120 could be efficient communicate ,if carefully chosen right words. Anyway, how to sound does matter, prior to how to speed up.
