In a love letter to the chance encounters that keep the magic of the party alive, The Burrell Connection and Nelson of the East take on a side of 10” each for a dub-informed techno trip.
Scheduled to play one after another at a forest rave in Berlin in 2021, the two producers parted ways abruptly after the police arrived to shut down the party. With no line-ups and a chaotic finish, it took Nelson some months to track down Burrell to compliment him on his set. The ensuing conversation quickly tipped towards a mutual love of dub and bass culture, swapping tracks and books back and forth like any typical exchange between two music heads.
The Burrell Connection is a stalwart of the Scottish scene, entrenched in Glasgow’s storied connection to Detroit techno and a natural at working his synths and jamming his drum machines in pursuit of machine soul perfection. His approach is reflected neatly in Italian artist Nelson of the East’s sound, which has taken in a run of singles and one album on Tartelet to date.
