The Konquest/Story Mode in Deception is one of the most potent and evocative pieces of nostalgic media for me. Something about it truly stays with me (and many many others who played it growing up)
Same here, the Konquest mode is so cozy and the exploration is so fun. It made me interested in the backstory and lore of the MK games to begin with. It baffles me why Netherrealm studios doesn't do a konquest mode with the newer games, it would be fun if it had online konquest where you meet other people running around doing quests.

Some korrections: The one on Deception's kover is Onaga, not Shao Kahn. And the game that is promoted in Deception's booklet is "Shadow Hearts", not "Shadow Realms". My fav ones from this video are DECEPTION, 9 and 11. I like the others and I'm also a die-hard fan of the saga but those are my main fav MK games from here. My absolute fav one is MK2

I still have that song on my workout playlist and don’t really care for the band at all just the one song along with those memories
Deception was by far my favorite MK game. I LOVED the chess mode and the story mode was quite a bit of fun. And you really hit the thing when you mention that this actually made all those realms that we just talked about before come alive.
MK2, Ultimate MK3, and MK4 at the arcades was my childhood. I eventually got MK Trilogy on the Saturn and MK4 on my N64, such great times.. I took a long break from MK after that and only got back into it when MK X launched. I since then also bought MK 11 and will soon buy MK 1.
Something I appericate even more about Mk deception aside from all the kontent it had was it's roster choice. It did something that I think is overlooked a lot which was to not bring all the main heroes/bad guys that were in every game before. Lore wise it flowed properly from the events of Deadly Alliance, showing how bad the stakes had gotten. Most of the heroes and villians had actually been killed, there was only a few remaining champions who could stop the new threat being Onaga. They also added new characters that gave agency to other realms in the MK universe, like havik in chaosrealm or Hotaru in Orderrealm. It was something unique and added more to the worldbuilding of the mk universe. Mk 3 did something similar but that was more to move away from the whole palette swap characters thing, which they decided to scrap and bring them back in UMK3. Mk x and 11 don't really do this, they bring back characters that should be dead as revenant forms (even though you can play as the normal iterations in versus). So it doesnt feel the same way deception did.
Anyone remember Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe lol. Not going to lie I wouldn't mind another crossover with all the lessons they learn from the modern reboots.

back then midway era mortal kombat was pure edgy dark, first time kid see this game so scary compare it with manhunt, the suffering, and twisted metal black. even the minigames was terrifying especially the fatality in puzzle kombat, where eyeballs jumpscare pop on the screen
Dude you gotta play The Suffering and the Suffering ties that bind. They are under rated gems from the ps2 era. Also some of the best horror games of all time no joke! Also love the content keep it coming MK is one of my all time favorites I actually got the dragon logo tatted on my chest fully colored.
MKX is my favorite mortal kombat with how fast paced it is and i been playing since MK2 lol. MK9 was also great then UMK3 is my favorite old one. But i do still like the 3d era ones. MK11 was too slow for me like MK2
I respect that. I think my love of MK9's single player content is what derailed so much of X for me. No doubt it was a snappy fighter. As a lover of 11's fighting, I wonder if that's because I was rocking Kung Lao. That was like maining the Flash in MK vs DCU for me.

Which is neat but its just not my favorite bc of the pace. ultimate MK3’s speed was great so MK9 was close but then X had that and cranked it up beyond 9. I get the single player aspect tho, but Im speaking purely on fighting aspect
MK2 was the first game I ever played ever at 3... on Gameboy so the blood wasn't really there but of the 3D era I loved Deception but I think that's common thought and new new before 1 I loved X over 11
MKX was just such a dark game but I loved the story and intro to Hanzo being human again was amazing but there were no big heroes as they had killed a lot off so I think MK11 fixed that. I agree that MK11 had an issue with unlocks etc but this is my favourite one and the Aftermath dlc was amazing with Shang sting coming back

They expanded the lore and experimented with genres.

Armeggedon was my first and still my favorite MK game. Played it during summer school. It’s my favorite summer memories!
