    Mark, as I told u I finally got myself 4 lil Peas...I have them in a semi planted tank with spider wood branches coming out from centre of 57 (50 litre not counting the filter section) fluval flex tank. Not knowing if I have m/f as apparently they’re only approx 6 to 7 months old apparently according to supplier. One is slightly more yellowish and quite fully spotted and the other 3 are more clearly spotted. I was maybe assuming the yellowish one was a male possibly as it was doing most of the chasing. Only had them 2.5 weeks and today after a lot of watching as I do every day..I happened to notice a very slight intermittent darker line under ones belly running to the tail. I’m not thinking “Sweet” as I named her is a boy. Not 100% yet and maybe the yellowish one may end up a make too. I know they adjust sexes to cater for the pod they are around so there’s a male to populate the group.
    What kinda of age etc May they start the breeding process...will it be too early at this age? I’m doing a slight change n adding more plants plus a centre section of Giant fisseden moss for them to frolic amongst so I hope they’ll like the added greenery. I know you removed your 2 peas n placed in a spec tank for breeding. I don’t really want to be doing that so is it possible or wise to leave them in their tank, all 4 and kinda see if any breed in there?
    What’s the pros n cons? I assume fry being eaten is one? “If “ I do see any spawning mating kind of chasing behaviour from now on is it then you remove only the two who seem keen or? That’s if I go the breeding tank route. Is a big lump fo moss something they’d get in to breed amongst ?
    I can’t get mine to eat frozen blood worm even tho the supplier was feeding them that before I got them. I feel they accepted frozen coz they were held in a netted container for a few weeks and being no substrate for them to forage In when fed frozen BW it was the only thing visible so they ate it. I’ve tried in my tank , it floats around n they check it out but when seeing it lay still on the gravel they don’t seem interested. Well, a couple have nibbled but not really hoed into it. They do luv mozzie larvae tho, but I really want them to accept frozen foods too incase there’s times no live foods available . Hard to get any live worms here at present .
    Hope you n ur family are well...Lisa

    Thanks for the great vids Mark. I've managed to harvest my eggs but they don't seem to hatch. The parents are about a year old so they should be fertile, I was thinking temperature instability might be the issue as I'm putting them in tubs as I would with my corydoras

They live in the substrate and filter and don't seem to bother the fish at all. I have googled it and got nothing. They are not planeria. Any ideas?

    Hydra - the Aiptasia of the freshwater realm. Hate them. Mark, what filter would you recommend for a 29 gallon, heavily planted aquarium for pea puffers? I'm planning on keeping a colony of red cherry shrimp with them. I know that a low flow filter is to be desired, and am considering a HOB that I can adjust the flow on, or sponge filters. Perhaps an under gravel ( I know - old school). Thank you, and congratulations on the new ones.

    • @MARKSAQUATICS
      @MARKSAQUATICS  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hob filters are great and as the tank is going to be well planted they will really help keep nutrients low. Keeping shrimp with puffers is not a good idea as they will chase them and try and nip off legs from the adults. They will also eat all the baby shrimp.
