I’m so glad you decided to react to these songs! You should watch the movie on your own time as it has a huge message and I feel like it accurately represents many Hispanic families. I feel like you would love the songs much more as it goes along with the movie.
The composer Lin Manuel said that the last name of the family, Madrigal, comes from a word Madrigal that is a musical composition for several voices of content loving, usually cheerful tone... there is the explanation in the Bruno's song.
Based on an interview, Miranda actually hired several Colombian musicians. The accordion players were probably from Colombia.
I first heard "We Don't Talk About Bruno" about a week ago, and it's still stuck in my head all day, everyday. That's how I ended up watching your reaction to it, lol.
It's a shame that Disney didn't choose it for Oscar consideration, because I think it would've had a great chance of winning.
I watched encanto around Christmas time with my nice and that song is still in my head. When it isn't surface pressure takes its place
I don't think The Oscars would have liked a song whose brilliance was because the primary musical character's name was changed from Oscar to Bruno, and that single handedly blew the song up lol 😂!

I do agree though that Dos Oruguitas is a song that's a lot more emotional to listen to with context in the movie or at least English subtitles. Either way i think it'll be fine no matter what he decides to do, we'll just have to wait and see. :)

this movie is incredible and the songs just get better when you watch them in the context of the movie!! i wouldn’t react to the other songs before watching the movie itself because it’ll spoil it and i really think this movie is one worth watching whether on your own time or as a video! also yes Lin did do the music for Moana just like he did for Encanto and that movie is also worth a reaction!! i literally cried 5 minutes into it when i saw it the first time in the theater because the animation was so beautiful lol
Just yesterday was checking out your channel for Encanto reactions and was disappointed that there wasn’t any. Bruno’s song is the best musically but I preferred Surface Pressure lyrically.

You definitely should watch the movie it’s a great story. As for the songs I believe Lin Manuel wrote all the songs and Germane Franco wrote the score. But don’t quote me on that one. As a fellow hispanic I think you’ll also enjoy both Columbia, Mi Encanto, sung by the vallenato legend Carlos Vives, and Dos Oruguitas sung by Sebastian Yatra. Which side note, are both sung in Spanish with in the film which felt amazing as a Latina to not only see my culture displayed but my language as well.

Michael, LMM did it again! This is his watermark! Giving each character meaning & depth while the lyrics of each song push the story forward. Also his classic style of layering several songs on top of each other at a pinnacle point is heard here. As you know, he does this in Hamilton & In The Heights as well.

You can find "consistent, fun, high level accordion play" also in Brazil. It's a really popular instrument around here, and extremely present in out culture.

i just stumbled upon your channel while watching reactions to encanto and i love it already! your voice is very calming and easy to listen to and i like your analyses of the songs and meanings!! thank you and i hope you watch the whole movie, the songs are even BETTER with context!
What I love aboug each song is the lyrics aren't the only message in the song.... if you look deeper the true messages come to light.. Like in We don't talk about Bruno each person Mirabel goes to when learning about her Tio bruno the memories conveyed to her are misconstruded memories because Bruno gave most individuals terrible/horrible preminitions (Bruno's power is to see into the future) and these visions although terrible ended up happening just as he said they would but with the context surrounding them is left out when Bruno revals his visions he only truly sees a snapshot of the total vision unless he looks deeper into the vision... which in the beginning he didn't But with his family Camilio (the kid who could shapeshift) he was young when bruno dissapeared so of course his memories of his Tio Bruno would change as he grew up because the town he lived in and his family stopped talking about Bruno even stopped saying his name effectively shunning Bruno from existence and when he was mentioned in the beginning it was in hushed tones around the family and anyone who knew bruno so of course Bruno in Camilio's memories would be a vilinized version of Bruno... And with Delores (her powers was that she could hear a pin drop from a long distance away) Bruno's visions for Delores were heartbreaking, because she was in love with her Cousin's boyfriend who was arriving for the dinner in the song we don't talk about bruno... she sings "he told me that the man of my dreams would be just out of reach betrothed to another, it's like I hear him now... i can hear him now!" Which is so sad because her lines are underlined with Isabella's lines overtop so it's kinda hard to hear Delores unless you really listen for her voice....
So in "We don't talk about Bruno", that part where everyone is singing is called a Madrigal. Like the family's last name.

Absolutely need to listen to Dos Oruguitas. You might want to watch the film first though as the song and accompanying video are major plot points.
Dos Oruguitas is the best song in the movie for me. It should get an Oscar nom, along with Waiting on a Miracle and We Don't talk about Bruno
Dos Oruguitas will definitely get an oscar Nomination 100%. It's already been hinted. But winning? That's yet to be determined. I hope so, but it's pretty competitive. But now that Encanto is becoming extremely popular, I think he might have a higher chance of winning. But not 100%.

If you’re getting into musicals you absolutely neeeeeeeeed to react to Hadestown! It’s based on greek mythology and has a very bluesy/folky sound and it’s incredible, i think you’d love it (and it’s completely sung through so you can get a good idea of the plot)

Without giving away the story, Mirabel gives a hint about Bruno in the song "Family Madrigal". Also, there are hints in "We Don't Talk About Bruno," Dolores gives a hint, but also watch Dolores as the family sets the table. Camilo, the shape shifting cousin changes into a fiendish-looking Bruno but he is behaving as the typical joking teen who gives his take on Tio Bruno but Camilo is the same age as Mirabel. He was only about five years old when Mirabel did not get her gift so he has the same memory as Mirabel about Bruno. Camilo is comically pretending that Bruno is a scary sorcerer. When you watch the film, you will put all the pieces together.

My favourite track is Colombia mi encanto. It’s sung by a Carlos vives, a legendary Colombian singer, and probably the best representation of Colombian folk music in the movie. Listen to the full version rather than the one one of movie!

Personally surface pressure is the best because it's so relatable about pressures, whether put there by your family or any one else. But too older siblings theres definitely a pressure placed on you to always be the best, be the role model, and that affects the older sibling when they see the younger siblings carefree because they can't.
