Sounds like it’s a dealer issue, my dealer replaced mine with the new giant motor free under warranty no questions asked. That’s ridiculous that you spent 14k on a machine and they give you shitty parts!
Dealers response after sending them an email. Sorry for the issues but unfortunately I?m out of town and don?t have the means to help you until Tuesday. I will also say that we have sold four other units and have had zero issues. I know that doesn?t help you much but just providing the information. They did have issues with the motor, but I?m under the impression they went to a new one early this spring and everything we ordered should have been the new motor. I?ll try to send the rep and ask him to reach out to you if he can before I get back.
The Carlisle Turf Master tires which comes on every Scag machine are great on flat terrain, but they can't hold a hill very well especially if there's any moisture on the ground. If you have a bunch of properties with hills or poor draining yards, you'll probably want tires with more aggressive tread, like ATV or Ag (bar lug) tires. I like the Kenda Terra Trac and Carlisle All Trail II ATV tires but they'll tear up the turf if you don't do a 3-point turn.
I've used SCAG for 19 years. I tell you what pisses me off. I know for a fact they spend 100k per race sponsoring that stupid top fuel dragster when they know about these issues. How many PTO switches have you had to buy when they know it's a known issue. You're right they have good equipment but they don't fix these issues the way they should when they know damn good and well they exist.
Yup. Same thing. My cable just started falling off but my problem was that stupid plastic piece right below it kept breaking. Then I’d zip tie it then those break. Just stupid 5-10 minute problems and it just blows at the ground. That and the traction
Was this one new this year? We got about 60 or 70 hours on our new one this year, and we have had cable problems and battery had a bad cell first week, my dealer took care of the issues promptly, however it developed an oil leak so it's going back sheet he's back from his holiday break, which is fine because we're done for the year!
i have a billy goat x3000 and I've considered switching to scag because it has a very high center of gravity. it can't tackle any slight incline it will totally flip on you. there's no gas gauge. you have to clean the underside compartment regularly or it will catch on fire. No EFI engine all just choked carbureted crap. hard to start, battery is pathetic and you'll have to jump it sometimes. muffler broke off after 50 hours. i could go on and on. and i've got only 80 hours on it. I really appreciate your honest review but even with your frustrations it seems way superior to billy goat's archaic blowers.
Look into the Ferris FB3000. I've been doing cleanups for 27 years. I can not believe how powerful this machine is. The Scag to me looks like it has too many things that can go wrong, too many parts. The Ferris is a lot more basic
Something sounds out of alignment. Mine doesn't grind like that. I spray silicone on mine though. I just dropped mine off at the dealership, the bracket for the idler pulley on the blower best snapped off.
They just barely replaced my motor. I only have 190 hours on my machine, and I've had to replace that crap motor over 10 times before they finally did the new motor.

Thanks for the info! I’ll definitely be looking into this.
Thanks for sharing these insights. I hope these situations can be resolved.
I hope so too!!
I’m glad I’m not the only one. The nozzle is doing the same thing and I’m have to keep pulling the lever up. Looking at a billy goat or ferris
That’s why I got the Billy goat, less moving parts
Personally I think j would still stay with the scag. At the moment. That might change if these issues don’t get fixed.

True statement!

So annoying!!!
Agreed...have been using 2 with storms for several years and the plastic bracket on the nozzle cable has broken just about every year
Drill the pin out and use a cotter pin!
I’ve been thinking non stop on what to use!
This idea is the best yet! Thank you! I will be doing this!

Yes, brand stinking new this year.
The old motor looks like a repurposed car window lift motor. ::nevermind. You said that later. :) Good info to have.
Yeah. It’s car window motor that is not intended to be used this much.

Thanks for your comment. We have used it a bunch this year. Still happy with the purchase and I would do it all over again. 👍🏻
@@douglaslawncare2843 were you able to get those cable issues resolved? with the new motor is it turning fine too?

Drill a small diameter hole and use a cotter pin.
I have the same issue with my Scag Extreme Pro. You need to drill a hole and place a cotter pin in.
I WANT MY SCAG SWAGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
🤣
I have the same problem. They tell me I have to buy the update kit which is $1,000
Mine was under warranty

That what you get went you buy junk
It’s definitely not junk. But… there are definitely things that need to be addressed.
