In this video, I show you how to part out new LEGO sets for selling on BrickLink and how to assign drawer numbers, quantities, and combine new lots with old lots already in your store.
Specifically I parted out a quantity of 5, set number 70903 - The Riddler Riddle Racer.

This was VERY helpful. Thank you very much. I'm in the middle of parting out my first set. I decided to part out Ewok Village rather that sell as a set. It's a lot of pieces. I see I could have been a bit more efficient but bottom line it seems to take a lot of table space to do this. I may have to buy another table or two.

Interesting that you assemble the figures. Personally, I don't do that because a: it takes away the fun for the buyer and b: it saves time :)
c) by Bricklink definitions these are considered used if you assemble them (exception if they were assembled in the sealed box like in some battle packs)

Thanks for the content, parting out looks to be a fairly time intensive job. I take it you want to order as many of the same sets as you can get in one go? To make the sorting of pieces more efficient.

That is exactly what we do. We get as many as we can/want at the time, then part them all out together. I do know some sellers who part out a couple, and then a few days later do some more, but personally for us, we prefer just to get it all done in one go. Makes it a little more efficient!

Hello, any idea from when the parts are going to sell often? Im starting to partout and have now like 30k parts in 1500 lots ish and not sering any often sales.
So how does the barcode system work? Can you just scan nd it fills the spot in?
I love the tray idea , even for building sets , nothing rolls away and easily picked up and moved.
How long did it take for the whole process, allowing for videoing and talking of course?

Hi, thank you for this video! Do you sort the drawers somehow? So that similar peaces are near to each other? To me it looks completely random and only depends on which empty drawers you pick by coincidence before parting out the sets... Is that right?
In my opinion you should even avoid having similar pieces next to each other - especially like those two sides, mold variations or the absolut nightmare pneumatic T connectors in light gray and LBG (that piece usually is "somewhat in between"…). For those you want to have one on the top left and the other on the bottom middle with drawer numbers like "0005" and "1333" to avoid any chance of confusing them.
How do you compete against other bricklink owners?
Do you know what the “Concatenate new remarks with old remarks” does? Thank you, great video once again!
Nicolas Châteauneuf This means that instead of replacing the old remark with the new one or not applying the new one, it saves both. This only applies to pieces you already have in your inventory. Essentially you could then store the same lot in 2 different drawers, for example, 30 of the items will be in drawer 225, and the new 12 you’re uploading will be in drawer 1232. When you go to pick that order it will say in the remarks field: D0225, D1232. I hope that makes sense.
@JustaBrickintheBucket If you concatenate your lots say ten 2 x 2 black bricks with thirty 2 x 2 black bricks and have them in separate locations, how will you know the quantity to pick from each? So if a buyer buys 25 of those bricks, how will the seller know that they only need to pick 10 from the first lot and 15 from the second? Hope this makes sense.
Recent bricklink seller here: I have somewhat of an odd problem and hoping someone can help with a solution. I want to part out sets I haven’t been able to sell, but I mainly sell sets and not pieces. I wanted to basically list the pieces on my bricklink and then later when I have time, sort them, or sort them when I get a buyer for some of the pieces. Is there a viable way of adding the set pieces to my store, and then come in later to reference them when I’m actually needing to sort/remark them? Or should I remark initially? Currently I part out the set. Dump them into storage bins and remark them, and then upload to BL(using brickstore) and they get posted. I basically want to upload them first, and then sort them all later. But any ideas I’ve come up with would just add a bunch more work.
Loved the video and learned a lot, but I got a couple questions. I’ve started Lego investing and am looking to make parting out as an addition to the business but seeing how much time and effort it took. Is it really worth it? I understand it possibly being 3x the value but do the hours that are being put into it really help it? Verses buy sets low and just flipping them? Thanks for watching! I think the answer to your question is a difficult one, especially to type as a reply in the comments section, but overall I would say it depends on what you are really wanting and how large you intend to grow your store. If you are working to grow a large store with thousands of different lots and hundreds of thousands of total quantity, I would say yes, it is worth the time and cost, however there are a lot more factors to take into account than just expecting every set that is 3x part out value to be worth it. If you are not looking to grow a large store but instead just part out some sets, then I would say no, it is not worth the time. Mostly because you need to have a large variety of parts for people to shop at your store in any mass amount. Just having a couple thousand lots and less than 100k parts will likely not see a large return on the investment of those sets, especially with the labor needed to part them out. For those who want less than a full time job, I would say investing in sets is a better way to go, but if you're looking to start a full fledged business and hire employees, etc. then parting out is probably the way to go.

The only thing is when I do the same thing but with used stock the consolidate function doesn't work... everything looks the same with the text telling you that the item is already in your store, then when you get to the verify items section they are change to being uploaded as new inventory and not consolitating with exsisting stock? Is this because used items work differently to New items?
Hmm.. That's weird. It works the same way. However used parts will not be consolidated with the new parts, they are separate lots. But if you already have a used part and add that same used part it should get consolidated. Just new and used stay separate.
How do you determine which kits to buy in the first place? Also where do you buy the sets, any where which is cheapest?
We determine which ones to buy based on what parts are in the set (and knowing what parts will or will not sell), as well as the price and part out price of the set. If we are getting 3 times the amount of money we paid for the set (or more) we will likely part it out. The best place for us to get sets is Walmart during their early summer, or after holidays clearance. Though, this year it has been hard to get sets at good prices and deals are scarce. We have not, however we have a multi-part series in the process of being made where we redo this showing each method of being able to part out sets on BrickLink since there are now multiple ways as you mentioned!

Bricklink is international, there are many UK sellers. If you join our discord you can ask some questions there for UK sellers. I do not recommend BL as a hobby. Many people do try to run it as a hobby but in order to make a decent amount of money you need to be putting in substantial hours in the beginning.
You added the Belt as part and with the minifig.
bain YT That is correct. This set included an extra belt per set, as an extra piece, so because of that I was able to put it on the minifigs, and list the additional in my store.

Do you use the Akro Mils storage?
Yes, Akro Mils. They are the easiest to source, and in my opinion one of the better quality drawer units out there.
You did all that work for stuff that gave a value of $213? How many hours does this take plus fulfilling an order and shipping it?
Yes, this method can be inefficient. We have since updated our process and can work much more quickly, I recommend you look at our "Brickstock Merge" video for info on that. I don't remember how long this set took as it was over a year ago but 2-3 hours was common. Orders do not take very long to pack.

You don't need to... They're just empty drawers you can use again. Only need to track containers that have something in.
just don't put them in again, so you always have a stack of empty drawers (which are used to part out sets…).
How do you find out how much a set parts out for?

You can go to BrickLink, then hover over the green market tab, click "Price Guide," and then type in the set number in the field on the right hand side of the page under the Part Out Value section. It will then give you the price for the part out!

Hey guys great content. I recently found a bunch of my old Lego sets (1980s early 90s ie: 6990, 6891, etc.) is it worth parting out old classic sets or selling them as loose sets? Need your advice.
We would probably lean towards selling them as complete sets. Especially since they're older sets! You'll probably get more money, but also they will sell so much quicker than the parts individually, not to mention how much less work it is to list and ship sets vs. parts!
Do you give every part its own drawer? Even if you have like a dozen colors of the same thing?

I have a question. If you already have a piece in your drawers but there is that same peice in a set you part out, do you place those pieces in the drawer that already has that piece or just use a new one?
This is a big debate within the industry... we personally consolidate, meaning we put the parts in the drawers that already have that part. This is strictly so the customers are able to easily browse a store vs. seeing dozens of the same parts (because we store them in different places). Other people just upload to whichever drawer they want since it's faster. We prefer the customer experience though. Tough question to answer which is better, cause they both have benefits and disadvantages.

I have never understood this business. You just spent several hours of time to put away 250 dollars of product, for which, you probably spent 70-100 bucks. When you take the time to pick the orders, this hardly makes any money? And of course many bricks don't sell quickly, or at all. A passion project for sure.
actually no buying pieces individually is more expensive than buying the same amount of pieces in a set
for example the 2019 ucs millennium falcon cost 800€ and buying the pieces alone cost around 1700€ without talking about shipping costs
a Great set to part out is a set when the pieces cost 3x more than the set price itself because even if some parts doesn't sell great you will still gain some money
@@sparty6609 but isn't half of that value a few pieces that only gain their value from being exclusive and are very slow selling? And even more because of all the Bricklink sellers doing new pieces those stuff doesn't even get rare in the next future.
I think, that's a common misconception: You don't live on selling UCS antennas - you live on selling technic pins, masonry bricks and trans-light blue tiles. Recently I filled a bucket at the PaB wall with a lot of fancy stuff (mostly window glasses, which are usually lost of garbage on used bulk) - but what pays the bucket, are the 750 green flowers to fill the holes.
Take your earnings. Buy a tripod.
