Scene Notes:
CLARK'S DREAM:
Replaced the original dream dialogue with archival audio by Marlon Brando's Jor-El, warning Kal-El not to interfere with human history.
JEREMY'S LETTER:
A short extension of an already existing scene. A few more lines of banter from Jeremy's classmates.
SUPERMAN VISITS JEREMY:
Replaced unfinished VFX shot with later VFX shot from Nuke 2 fight.
NUCLEAR MAN 1 FIGHT:
Given a completely new audio track to allow for Alexander Courage's tremendous score to be used.
NUCLEAR MAN RUNS LOOSE:
A rework of many already existing scenes to correct the order of events in the film. Replaced a few shots of Nuke flying with previously used VFX. Some VFX shots are not finished but still needed for the sequence.
ORIGINAL FINALE:
Original ending is reordered based on the period of events showcased in the script and Courage's score. Fixed strange score replacement during Superman's speech. Added final scenes of Superman's speech and his flight with Jeremy.

It's so incredible that, even with horribly developed and preposterously orchestrated scenes to play-out, Reeve still infuses Superman with nobility and humanity.

Cannon did at one time plan to use the cut footage to make a Superman V. Suffice it to say, they were delusional.
Ironically, if these scenes had been left in back then it would have made the film even worse, yet putting them back in today would make it even better.

@@johnnyskinwalker4095 True, but it also made sense. Supposedly, the first superman doppleganger was either based on Bizarro, or was supposed to be him.
It did make sense, though, if you look at it from a different perspective. Lex made a "Bizarro" made with Superman's own physical attributes. The first time you make something, it usually comes out fk'd up.
It seems like they wanted to show a progression from test 1 (Bizarro) to test 2 (Nuclear Man), and fixing what went wrong with the first attempt. The first one was trash, but the second one was refined, and tore Supe's ass asunder (for a bit).
I'm tempted to take these deleted scenes and infuse them back into Superman IV.
There's a logo on this one, but if I could find them elsewhere without it, I could clean up the black marks scrolling across the screen, bounce up the audio [quite] a bit, Remaster all of the deleted scenes to match the quality of the theatrically released film, and a little color grading.
Problem is, I don't know where I could legally post the video, or what restrictions YT has.
But BOY would I tackle this!
@@Entolyfik Look up a guy named Aron Price on here. He’s remastered a number of scenes from Superman four and updated the special effects. His work is nothing short of fantastic. See if you can find him. He’s on here. He has his own channel..

THANK YOU so much for this TREMENDOUS work. This is nowadays the DEFINITIVE version of the deleted scenes of Superman IV, it has made me appreciate and understand the movie a lot more. Now that I see the full picture, I think it could have been a good film and a nice ending to the Reeve saga. Nice job!

I remember seeing that strand of hair clip in at least one tv airing of this film and Superman returning Lex to the quarry while the others whistle.
I remember those particular scenes being in it also, same as you remember. As well as the scene where Superman takes Lenny to Boys Town, that was in it as well. As far as I recall, that was all part of the movie's plot and I believe the wiki page for the movie even lists those scenes in the plot description for the movie. The only cut content that I was ever aware of was the "Bizarro" scenes, a club scene where Clark Kent and Lacy went dancing, and a scene of Clark visiting his foster parents' graves. The rest is definitely news to me.

Golan/Globas insisted that the movie be cut to 90 minutes. Their logic: Disney movies were 90 minutes so movies for kids had to be 90 minutes. They also kept cutting the production budget due to financial problems.
More like they kept funneling the money that was supposed to go to this film and instead put it towards Masters of the Universe.

It's kind of funny when Superman tells Lex after dropping him off at the prison, "See you in 20 years Luthor." Superman returns, the next film starring Brandon Routh in the role came out about 19 years later.

This looks even worse than the actual end result. I never quite got how even these scriptwriters thought that the audience would not scratch their heads at Superman taking Lacey and the kid in these clips into space for a tour of Earth from space when of course there would be no air for them to breath.
Just a new superpower, like his Repair Vision when he repaired the Great Wall of China, extending his invulnerability to those he held onto.
Any scene with "Bizarro" is terrible. It's good that it got cut out. But there are some other scenes that could have been in the theatrical cut. The director cut too much out.
I thought these scenes were lost forever. I'm not sure if they would have made the final film any better, but at least it would have felt more complete. I love the remark that Lex made about the new tabloid format of the Planet. It definitely should have been in the final cut of the film. When the most evil man on earth thinks your new version of the newspaper sucks, you should know you did something wrong!
The best thing to do with this film is pretend it never happened.
This was very well done, wow! I made an edit years ago called Quest For Coherence, attempting to reconstruct the full 134-minute cut. I had limited ability to remove the temp music and goofy sound effects. I have a version 2 in the works. Would you be willing to share your edit of the deleted scenes audio track, prior to adding music and sound effects?
I remember seeing that years ago on TH-cam. It inspired me to make my own extended cut of Superman IV

These scenes were cut by the director. Also, the 3-hour TV cut of Superman: The Movie WAS NOT Richard Donner's originally intended vision. It was the Salkinds. The 2001 Special Edition however is Donner's full intended cut.
They were only cut out due to a disastrous test screening. The editing made the film pretty much incoherent in parts unfortunately.

Even the 2001 Special Edition, with all the replaced sound effects, was not what Donner wanted. In an interview, he was surprised to hear from the interviewer that sound effects were replaced and mistakes made in the soundtrack. I question whether he really reviewed the 2001 Special Edition cut at all.

I guess the part where Clark is dying was considered too disturbing to show, might have been a good idea though, to show people what radiation poisoning is like.
I also know that the Kent's graves scene was cut during editing.
That probably is lost forever.

I'm in full support to have a fully restored director's cut of Superman IV. Heck, at this point, it could only improve it.
If you can post the extended flying sequence (with the Fresh Air music track) with Superman and Lois that would be great also! I have seen the tornado and Russian missile completed scenes, which have been released internationally and in U.S.A. television versions.

I remember reading the novelization of this then seeing the movie about a week later . I was wondering where half the stuff I read went as I had no idea about editing . I was even more confused when I picked up the magazine of the movie and saw photos of the scenes. It was then that I realized there was a reason the movie I saw seemed a little choppy.
Sorry! Superman could NEVER hit a baseball out into space using a bat! The amount of force necessary to do that would shatter the bat and ball on contact. It would be like a miniature explosion.
Superman's vow to never interfere with the destiny of Earth doesn't make any sense because every time he saves someone or prevents a disaster, he is interfering with the destiny of the planet and the destiny of the people he saves. Plus in the first movie, he TURNED BACK TIME to interfere with Lois' destiny to prevent her from dying.
It’s more about not interfering in geopolitics.
That turn back the clock sequence was intended for the end of the second film, but Donner basically cut ties with the producers and he shoehorned that sequence into the first movie, already knowing he would never complete the second himself. Much of Donner's already shot footage for Superman II was used in the Richard Lester-directed sequel.
It would have been better to if he had said, "If I interfere how the governments of the world run things, I would have to become the dictator of the world."

All I remember about S IV was that it was a terrible movie. Whatever they were shooting for, it was a complete miss. Still, Chris Reeves was the best Superman.
This made the 4th movie look better then the madam web movie or the last jurassic world movie
With that first Nuclear Man nobody spoke up & said "hey what the hell are we doing here?"
This movie hurt me seeing SUPERMAN 4 in theaters when I was a teenager now seeing more of what could have been angers me, so many want to see this movie back in a better cut I think if we keep letting the money men who hold sway over this unfinished film know how we feel about this movies future plus the exceptional people who are working for free to get visuals upgraded and a better cut will come together and all work on and salvage CHRISTIFER REEVES dream of the man of steels fourth adventure.

Ironically cutting out the scenes when US/USSR almost engaging in a nuclear exchange is the best scene that exemplifies what Reeve was going for when he conceived the story

It's better without these scenes. There are a couple of nice parts that could have been kept in, but the majority of this was pure cheese that was luckily left out of the theatrical version.
You left a few deleted scenes out. The tornado scene, russian missile about to take off scene and the nightclub scene are missing. The tornado and russian missile scenes are on the extras section in the Superman IV DVD. I've never seen the nightclub scene, but I know it exists. I have the Superman IV comic where it includes the deleted scenes. The audio commentary track on the Superman IV DVD gives a good explanation of the things that went wrong with this movie, mainly the budget cuts, which is why it is not as good as the others.

I didn't notice, but it would probably have been reshot if there had been any intention of actually including that scene in the final product.
When I read about the first Nuclear Man, it sounded okay and so I wondered why they cut it. After watching this I can see why. Why on earth did they make him a simpleton? That whole sequence is terrible- but then again the whole film is pretty diabolical. I enjoy watching it just for how bad it is and how lousy the effects are. I hope Gene Hackman got a good cheque.
I don’t know, why did they make Bizarro a simpleton in the comics? The movie may not be great, but it’s not exactly far off from the kind of story they were doing in the Bronze Age, leaps in logic included.

The movie was a disaster regardless but if baffles me why hey cut some of these scenes (nightmare sequence, Clark dying for instance). It’s a shame they made the first nuclear man sequence such a joke. I’m glad it got cut even thought I liked some of the fight sequence

I THINK I forced myself to watch it once, but it was a chore! The first movie was AMAZING, the second was okay (the original Donner cut and vision for the movie was MUCH better), the third was terrible (it was more Richard Pryor than Superman), and the fourth was a complete joke. It's too bad Richard Donner didn't come back to it when he was asked. He would've made a hit out of it, but the Salkinds put such a bad taste in his mouth for what they did to him. He was bitter and refused. It's a shame.

Well done… This movie has a much better heart than the third Chris Reeves film but, poor old Chris got screwed by budget with the film company at the time. The story and the heart was there… imagine it if they hadn’t halved the budget…

@@wobind72 Bear in mind when Richard Lester came in for Superman 2, he made it already more goofy. There were good things about Superman 3 like Superman vs Superman and that big computer. I choose to believe that the robot woman was sort of a Metallo version. Ideally Donner would have done them all.
