  • This week we had our first block exams - my first set of exams in medical school!
    I've been studying pretty much non-stop since my first day, but it feels like you're constantly behind in terms of the amount of work that needs to be covered...
    This block focused on a variety of subjects, including pharmacology, microbiology, pathology, immunology, public health systems, nutrition, biomedical ethics and and and.....
    I've really enjoyed the first block, but the stress certainly caught up with me as we approached the exams!
    I hope you enjoy the video! Thank you for watching!
    Wade

    Hi Wade... HOW DID UR EXAM GO??
    Also, I'm in grade 11 And I'm so stressed out about getting into medicine at Wits. I've never been someone who puts in all my effort, but after coming across your videos this week, I got so motivated and I literally started studying everyday since then, and I'm currently in my school holidays. Could u please give me some tips and advice??😭
    (Please remember to get essential sleep, especially before an exam! Sleep is part of ur success in that exam)

    Do you have to be financially stable to go to medical school?

    • @THEDAILYDOSE_SA
      @THEDAILYDOSE_SA  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey! I honestly don't think anyone in our class is financially stable, so to speak.. The course costs about R80,000 a year, so it's a massive undertaking! Quite a few people are working part-time to cover the fees, a lot have bursaries or scholarships, so there's a few options available:
      Scholarships, bursaries, and external sponsors are a good way to start;
      Internal university donors is another;
      There is a Discretionary Fund that Wits runs too, where corporates/trust funds/individuals contribute to student funding;
      Working part-time is unfortunately a common thing (I am doing this myself), but it can get in the way of your main purpose - studying!;
      There is a hardship fund that you can apply for which helps cover accommodation/academic fees - you can contact the Wits SRC about this;
      GoFundMe is a common thing for tuition, and hopefully other people can assist through the goodness of their hearts..
      In as far as specific Wits medicine options, you can try these:
      PPS
      ISFAP
      Gauteng DoH
      GCRO
      Zululand Anthracite Colliery
      Moshal Scholarship Program
      I hope this helps!

      @@THEDAILYDOSE_SA thank you so much. I really appreciate the advise. I will make a point of it to investigate those options.

    My question is once you in medicine; whats the pass mark?

    • @THEDAILYDOSE_SA
      @THEDAILYDOSE_SA  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cactus 24 Hey! At Wits currently, the pass mark is 60% for each of the tracks that you do, and your final year mark also has to be above 60%

    • @yourdadsleftone7086
      @yourdadsleftone7086 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      THE DAILY DOSE oh alright; so then to stay in the courses and to pass the year, you just need to pass you dont need to pass with flying colours? 🧐

    • @THEDAILYDOSE_SA
      @THEDAILYDOSE_SA  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cactus 24 Nope, you just need to make sure you pass the tracks and be above the pass mark for the theory and practical components!
