THE DAILY DOSE
South Africa
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 20 ส.ค. 2016
Hey guys! My name is Wade Shaw, I am 33 years old, and I am FINALLY a medical school student after many, MANY years of trying to get in!
I am currently a 4th year med student at Wits Medical School in Johannesburg, South Africa, and I gained my place through the Wits Graduate Entry Medical Program (GEMP) in 2019!
THE DAILY DOSE is a platform I started to help showcase my journey of trying to get into med school, and now that I am in, I try to show a realistic portrayal of what med school life is like! I also upload a lot of videos with info and tips on how to get into med school and how to prepare for the WAPT and for GEMP!
If you are on your own journey into medicine, I would love hear from you!

Wits GEMP Prep | INTRO TO GENETICS
Hey guys!
This video is a quick review of some genetics concepts that you may come across during your preparation for the WAPT. In this video I quickly look at autosomal recessive, autosomal dominant, and X-linked recessive inheritance patterns and give an example of how each can be determined.
I hope you find this helpful!

Hey guys! This week we had our first set of exams since February! Normally, the repro block exams are the last of the Wits GEMP 2 year but things have been rearranged slightly this year to accommodate the lockdown. The exams were done online on Friday - we had two exams on the day, each only 40 questions and each taking only an hour and a half. It felt good to be studying non-stop again, it fel...

Wits GEMP | RESEARCH IN MEDICAL SCHOOL
มุมมอง 1.7K4 ปีที่แล้ว
Hey Guys! This week I wanted to explain more about the process of research in medical school, and specifically with Wits GEMP. As part of the program, you conduct a research report during your GEMP 2 and 3 years and it counts towards your final GEMP 4 marks. We also had our research protocol presentation on Wednesday (22 July) and it was a completely nerve-racking experience! Hope you enjoy! Wa...
MED SCHOOL STUDY TIME-LAPSE (4 hours of studying!)
มุมมอง 2.5K4 ปีที่แล้ว
Hey guys! This weeks video is just a time-lapse of some studying I did one day this week. I've been studying in my dad's office, so I've been WAY more productive, and in this video I managed to study for about 4 hours in a row! I spent some free time catching up on work from our previous blocks in medical school that I'm not too comfortable with yet Hope you enjoy it! Wade Music by: www.bensoun...

Hey guys! This week marked the first time I've gone back to campus in almost 4 months, and it's something I've been really looking forward to so I decided to do a "day in the life of a medical student"-type of video! We are only going to campus to do our clinical skills sessions, and then later to do our exams and OSCE's. SOCIAL MEDIA: Instagram: thedailydose_sa Blog: thedailydose...
Wits GEMP Prep | CALCIUM AND PHOSPHATE REGULATION
มุมมอง 7134 ปีที่แล้ว
Hey guys! This video is a revision of calcium and phosphate regulation, and the different mechanisms that try to maintain homeostasis. It is a common topic that you will cover quite a lot on your medical school journey - first whilst you are preparing for WAPT, but also again throughout the Wits GEMP years (for instance in your renal block in GEMP 1, your MSK block in GEMP 2, and also your endo...
BEING HONEST: SELF-DOUBT AND FEELING OVERWHELMED with MEDICAL SCHOOL
มุมมอง 2K4 ปีที่แล้ว
Hey guys! This week I wanted to talk about feeling overwhelmed with med school work and dealing with self-doubt and the so-called impostor syndrome! I know for sure that I am not alone in feeling overwhelmed with the current workload, but I wanted to put out a video that shows something other than the blissful, hopeful, and seemingly 100% motivation that most medical school videos portray. I ho...
HOW TO STAY MOTIVATED in MEDICAL SCHOOL
มุมมอง 9764 ปีที่แล้ว
Hey guys! Here's a topic that I get asked about quite often, and so I thought I'd make a video on how I stay motivated in medical school! I definitely have days (even weeks!) where I don't feel like studying, so I've always tried to keep my mind on the bigger picture when trying to stay motivated with the cray workload in med school! I hope you enjoy the video! If you do, please LIKE and SUBSCR...

So if our mitochondria had enough ATP for proper energy production, you would not get cancer cells?
I am now in my first year in med school, thank you so much bro , you're a source of inspiration .
nah i agree with the "moMed is out to get you" bit 😭😭
Hey 👋 do u pay for wits plus
The fact that you never came back years later to tell us how it went (completed or not), I'm upset. Anyway, I hope it went well and you are officially Dr Shaw.🌼💕
Damn aren't u just good looking 😍. I hope that all your studies went well
Does the degree have to be from a public university only?
Can a diagnostic radiographer be considered for GEMP
HEY👋Is there a current WhatsApp group for 2024 preparations?
miss his another bass cover
Good to watch study someone so diligently ❤ Hope I can complete my MBBS degree with patience
Hi! I can completely relate to this - how had you resolved these feelings?
Hi man, Im taking a long shot: can I contact you regarding molmed?
This is an amazing video
Question: if I already have degrees majoring in anatomy and physiology, can I get exempted from those sections in the WAPT?
Unless you did them at wits. No
I know rejection from medicine too well. I got rejected in South Africa for like 5 years now. I completed a Bcom degree in late 2019. Completed matric in 2015 and have been trying ever since. I did get into Mbchb eventually in Zambia but after 2 years of suffering through so many external challenges being in a poor country that has the bare minimum, you can't really enjoy your study experience when you go through so many challenges like I didn't have time to actually enjoy myself outside of campus because there's no where to go and nothing really extra curricular to do. I've always wanted to go to mauritius but it's way too expensive at the colleges. China is too far for my parents as they would like to come visit me often. I'm just wondering if anyone can relate being in medicine them coming out because of difficult situations. I cry about it a lot because I did really well in my courses as well. Just wish somehow I could return soon 🥺🙏🏾
Hey Wade. Hope you well. If you can please share some life update of how things have been since your last video:))
I love your content bro:)) 😜
Hey, you are really an inspiration. I literally relate with everything you have stated!!!! Thank you:))
Experiencing the same.
Wade where you at man? I was in first year at UCT when you started GEMP 1 (3rd year). Loved your videos and then all went quiet. I figured by now (Im in 5th year) you'll be in first year internship?
Thank you so much, I love your explanation and it inspires me
Can you work and still go to med school
Do they look at your matric results when considering to accept you for the THE WAPT test?
Thank you so much for this information I'm currently doing a bcom degree 2nd year and now I know what I have to do
Just started watching your videos today, your going to be one of the best Dr. Good bless you Sir 🙏
This was interesting to learn about. I'm personally interested in research. I have a question. After application in march--june, and WAPT in september. When exactly does the academic year start?
Hi there, what’s the name of the text book I should use to study? And where can I get it
great video thanks for giving me a foundation of the warbug effect to build on
thank you .
Fact that you hit at 32years explains why you deserved this offer .
Thanks, man for sharing this, I also get this question a lot as an educational psychologist and ended up doing a similar video after speaking to the medical school. It is good to hear from lived experiences...
Exactly thanks man I've been feeling like shit this past week
I would like to ask when you enrolled at UNISA for the prerequisites did you do CHE1501, CHE1502 and CHE1503(3 of them)?
Finally understood these processes. Thank you!
we haven't gotten an update from you in a loooong time. are you okay?
We miss your vlogs
So the bachelor of technology does that mean that you had to do a diploma first right?
We miss you Wade😭💔Really wondering what you’re up to and how your journey is going. Please come back🥺
Hi, can Bsc in Chemistry take me to GEMP?
Hello I have 3 years Bachelor degree + PGCE (post graduate Certificate in Education) and currently working as a teacher...so when they calculate my average, is it gonna be my BSc 3rd year and Pgce since it's a 1 year program..or they not gonna include pgce it's just gonna be 2nd and 3rd of BSc?
Thank you for the informative video! My Math mark is below 60% for matric, do I have to go the unisa route or can upgrade my matric results? I've heard that some universities rejects students when they sit for a matric exam the second time?
If you doing gemp do you need nbt?
Hi ! If one has applied on the self service portal for YOS 3 for the Med course (GEMP) - do we just wait to receive an email regarding the WAPT? thank you for all your help!
Wow your story is very inspiring 🥺🥺I am doing my last year in Law and doing the courses at Unisa , it is really a struggle
I'm now doing my 3rd year in Medical School in Stellenbosch. I remember the first time watching this video just before my final matric exams. I don't know what it is about it, but it's super emotional for me right now.
pretty good
Hi Is it possible to study gemp part time?
Hey! No, GEMP is a full time degree, especially GEMP 3 and 4 where you are in the hospitals all day.. You could possibly get some part-time work done, but the degree is full time
Hey Wade, if I'm doing a second degree and haven't finished, which marks am I going to use to apply? The latest of My second degree or marks from the 1st degree.. Please please please help me out
Hey! Your 2nd degree should be the one, as they base their acceptance on your last 2 years of study. If you're not planning on finishing your 2nd degree, then you apply with your 1st degree and your application and CI is based on that degree then
Yes, too much calcium can be malignancy like in my mom it turned out to be breast cancer.
