    Perfect timing! I was just about to do the very same around my garage and patio. Your technique is much cleaner looking than the last time I did it. I think I'll follow your tips this time around. Thanks Jeremy!

    This is super good information! I am about to have my pathways in my garden concreted and the paths themselves stamped. I'll be looking to do this along with that job for sure. Thank you!

    When I worked in the semi trailer industry, they used the sika flex brand. Very durable in deed.

    Having been in the concrete polishing industry for the past decade we just rub a bar of soap over the edges of the control joint, fill the joint with polyuria and then razor blade off any of the surface excesses and call it a day. The tape would be too time-consuming. and we backer rod if there isn't enough dirt in the control joint to take the place of the backer rod. It's the only advantage to a dusty worksite. They do sell a small wheel on a handle to sink the backer rod to the proper depth at just about any hardware store. It's what you will see done at most all commercial examples.

    Can I ask if filling the expansion joint defeats the purpose of the expansion joint? And if not, why not?
    Thanks-

    • @Guildbrookfarm
      @Guildbrookfarm  2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      The sealant is flexible and pliable and seals out water without preventing the joint from moving.

    I should probably seal some of the big cracks in my driveway. Actually managed to get my foot caught in one of them and flew forward. Even though I do martial arts and I know the proper way to fall, out of instinct, I put my hands out and ended up scraping quite a bit of skin off of one knee, both hands, and sprained a wrist. Ouch. Unrelated, that's an awesome view, and I think it would be neat to sit out on that porch and drink some coffee in the morning.

    I call the Expansion Joints in my Shop Floor the "magnet". Every small screw or nut I drop seems to find it's way into the Joint. Have to try this to end one of many headaches!!

    Good call on the backer Not sure you really needed to tape it, when the concrete guys do this on any job site I've been on they fill the joint then they take a scraper over the joint to take off the excess.

    Dang. We used a different product that wasn’t self leveling and thick. Had to finish “trowel” it myself. Came out good but a lot of work. Wish I woulda done it this way. Also, tape is everything on this job.

    What is the tape you use and why do you use it on a finished drive/patio? Ii it to protect drive from run off?

    • @Guildbrookfarm
      @Guildbrookfarm  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It’s just regular painters masking tape to make a clean line while the sealant cures. When you pull it off you have a perfect joint. Otherwise you would have a sloppy mess.

  • @seriouslyreally5413

    You also need to seal the concrete slabs itself otherwise the concrete is porous and water soaks in will crack...
