Nothing stands up on them anyway. 😆 This hack is a perfect solution that can be completed in other 30 minutes and under $10 (just $2 a shelf)! Cover those shelves and say hello to a custom look on a shoestring budget. This hack is perfect for renters and apartment dwellers because it's completely removable!
SUPPLIES:
- 1 foam core board (Dollar Tree, 1 per shelf)
- 1 roll of contact paper (Dollar tree, 1 per shelf)
- Exacto Knife
- Packing Tape (Dollar Tree)

Just subscribed to your videos and did this with my wire shelves in my laundry room today with one modification - instead of cutting and wrapping the lip separately, I scored it, let it bend down at at 45 degree angle, taped the back like you did (just to be sure it's not going anywhere), then wrapped the whole thing in one sheet of contact paper. Was trickier, but looks more like a thick, solid shelf. Thanks for the inspiration! I love how it turned out!!

I've been doing this for years! Love this hack! The shelving unit I bought came in a cardboard box so I just cut that box and spray painted it different colors! On one shelf, I bought a hand towel from the dollar store to put on the shelf to add some more pop to it :) Thanks for making this video! Very simple, and cost effective!

This is a GREAT idea. I not only added two more shelves to my "linen/toiletries" closet the 3 shelves that I keep well stocked with toiletries is now beautiful and super organized. I left the top 3 shelves open (didn't place the shelf covers on them) because I wanted to be able to view the linens stored on each. I now "roll" my towels and many other linens just as Kathryn suggested in a video many many videos ago to create more space. Kathryn, you have the best ideas. Keep it up girl!

This is actually brilliant. I'm redoing my home office/storage room/craft room with wire shelves on one side (because it needs to be super customisable and changeable) but this will make it look so much nicer!

Thanks for the great video. I need to do this with wire baskets that I keep my embroidery thread in. The large and small spools do not stand up. I am so glad you showed us how to cut the foam board!

Omg that looks so good! I just watched a tutorial video where they made wire shelf covers using wood panel boards and 1x2 wood boards, which does look nice, but can get pricey and would be better for homeowners. I then came across your video and I think your method is so great for someone like me in a rental, and MUCH friendlier to my pockets lol. I’d even be willing to “splurge” on the contact paper lol. I can’t wait to see some of your other videos now!

YES!! This is exactly what I was looking for!! I'm building a "modular" bookcase/shelving unit/drawers to put on the sides and over my bed, and I was a tad worried about adding extra weight with pinewood or any cheaper option. But this foamcore idea is great!! And if I don't skim on the contact paper, I'll get the scandinavian finish look with a woody contact paper!! Yaaaasssss!!! Thank you!!!
