Finally got around to watching this (discord squad, yayy!) This was very comprehensive, thank you. I think last year I would have been confused and overwhelmed by all this, but now that I have many hours watching SVT, listening to ljudböcker på svenska, och pratar med Svensk vänner, I have picked up on almost all of these patterns of reductions and already emulate many of them in my own speech. It really is true that the best way to become fluent is to just immerse yourself in the language and you will naturally pick up the accents and the dialects of the natives.
Absolutely in (American) English pretty much works the same way. We pronounce the S as an S. (ab-so-lute-lee)... but it gets reduced to a P sound and the O becomes more like a U. (app-suh-lute-lee). As an American, we get told we speak "lazy English," so I'm glad to see there is lazy Swedish, too, LOL!

If I understand correctly, its a lot like puerto rican Spanish. In regular Spanish you would say “estoy cansado.” but when you speak it in Puerto Rico it ends up sounding like “‘toy cansa’o””.
So if the imperfect drops the -de, and the perfect drops the -t, and the perfect also often drops the auxiliary "har" in subordinate clauses - I guess "Jag studerade" without the -de, "Jag har studerat" without -t (and the har assimilated to the jag or just disappearing entirely in a subordinate clause), and the present "Jag studerar", if one does not articulate the R significantly - all sound virtually identical??? That is terrifyingly confusing. But great video as always!
Actually in quite a few major languages the verbs don't change based on tenses. My father tongue, spoken by over 300 mio. people, is like that. and then you have Chinese which is spoken by over a billion people. Usually the context is enough. So we say something like: Yesterday I study. I study three hour ago (notice as well how we don't say "hourS" since three is obviously already plural, thus making an -s redundant.). I already study (which would mean like "I have studied"). To a question like "What exactly do we do three week ago?", you can easily answer: We meet, you pick I up at my place, and then we drive together, we go hiking, etc. Because we know it take place three week ago.
This is great. Fun language. However, maybe Swedish and English need a modern orthographic "reset" where all the universally unpronounced letters just get dropped, and spelling gets more phonetic, so people trying to learn the language don't go nuts. The English and some northern Americans are non rhotic (they drop their rs). But in Shakespeare's day they hit all the rs hard, sounding like pirates.
Yes! I saw this video that explained the American accent and it was because back in the days people spoke more like pirates and Irish/Scottish like generally.

Being nerdy here: what you call reduction in this video is actually called elision. Reduction implies that there is a vowel which is being weakened in an unstressed position. :)

These are not only Stockholm reductions and I'm sure you use more of these than you think. They are not really considered a bit sloppy no. Try and record yourself and have a listen. You'd be surprised. With that said, it's true that reductions vary between dialects.
Just to make sure: you said that "att" is reduced to "å" only as an infinitive marker. So is it correct that you never reduce "att" in the meaning of "that"? So in "Jag vet att du mår bättre" att is always pronounced as "att", not "å"? But as the infinitive marker, can it be reduced when followed/preceded by vowels and especially in an intervocal position? Something like "det var brA_Att träffas" or "det var brA_ATT_Åka dit" (if my phrases are correct:). Will it be "bra å träffas" and "bra å åka" or in these cases you still preserve the"t" sound? And äntligen :) how do you usually spell these och/att reductions in a written form imitating the oral pronunciation, like chat messages etc? "Jag och du" will be "Ja å du" or "Ja o du"?
Unfortunately there isn't enough to it to make a whole video about it. You have to learn to say the letters K and V and out them after each other. Both sounds exist in English, which is the language I teach in.
This is not a reduction question, but more a pronunciation oddity. Why is turtle pronounced so oddly? The "sköld" is said like a slightly silent "wh" (Sköldpadda)
Because SK is how we write that sound. It's not "wh" but it's more like an H further up your throat. I've made videos on that where I explain it a bit better. Imagine a cat that is hissing.
I'm gotlandic with the full blown dialect so i know the diffirences... or so i thought. I have never ever heard a person on gotland ever dropping the h in har. However when it comes to Gotlandic that will probably be the last diffirence you'l think off. I would not mind getting some more of my dialect out there but to keep thigs short. If you are a foreigner learning Swedish and then going here then do NOT trick your self into thinking you might understand people out on the island of Gotland willy nilly cus it's not exactly a dialect, it's nearly a language of it's own.
OH and on a side note... this slow Swedish you talked about at the end of the video... OH MAN, you can't imagine how often i have to sigh and then revert to slow swedish talking to main landers -_-

No, although it's definitely possible (as you can hear in the first example), but that's not what I meant. The "push" comes from the secondary stress (which you hear in the rest of the examples).
Something swedes does wrong all the time as they don't use Han and Honom correct -Han sa (he said) -Jag skall gå till honom (I will go to him) I hear often people Say -Jag skall gå till han.
That's true! It's something that we can't really regard as an error since it originates in the accusative form, whereas honom is the dative form. Spoken and written languages are really to be regarded as two variants here.

Yepp, it happens in German too. It's basically standard to reduce -er to something that resembles an *a*. Ich sag nur "hömma samma womma nomma".

You are right, generally the long forms are older and less used. "Va" however is only a spoken version of "vara" and isn't used in writing.

Reductions also means that sounds are lost within a word. Not only vowels. Also contractions are a part of that. Elision is just a part of the video.

Sometimes "inte" is before, sometimes after verb? When we is used "ej", when "nej", when "inte"???
"Nej" is only the opposite to "ja" (yes). "Ej" is a more archaic negation which isn't regularly used.

That's true! It's something that we can't really regard as an error since it originates in the accusative form, whereas honom is the dative form. Spoken and written languages are really to be regarded as two variants here.

Because the spoken language develop fast and the written language is more conservative, which it should be.
