- Shepard Fairey knows a thing or two about impacting culture. From creating the viral "Obey" propaganda campaign, to branding the president with the Obama "Hope" poster, he is one of the most influential artists of our time.
Simultaneously reaching the conscious and the unconscious, art has the potential to succeed where traditional approaches have failed, while acting as a catalyst for awareness and action. In his keynote address, Shepard explored the proven methods by which to reach culture, and linked it to the challenge of our time.
"Good artists copy, great artist steal" ~PP (steal as in using the idea and making it your own and not simply copying the art verbatim)

Fairley shows and tells during this conference, more then once, that his aim (for himself and the audience) is to become more critical, to question the images around us. The comments on how he uses or transform images from other artists are a derivation of the main topic: Social awareness!!

No, he gets ideas from other peoples art. Basically a lot of things in his art work is his but there are a few things like the obey logo that he "copied" but really it's all fair use. It's like a chair almost. You steal the idea but make it your own.
